After practicing last night with cueman we had a couple of uncertainties about the 3 point break rule as used on the GB9BT (not sure how we got through the solihull event not knowing the rules!)
Can anybody help with the following 2 questions:
1) Does the cueball past the headstring count as one of the three balls? i.e one ball potted, one object ball + cueball past headstring = legal break?
2) Is it the case on the Eurotour that after a break where the 3 points aren't acheived it is possible for the incoming player to pass control of the table back to the player who has played the break shot?
Cheers
Jamie ......... will understand how this game works one day

Jamie, I gam sure the answer to number 1 is the cueball does not count. As for number 2 i dont think u can put the opponent in but you do get a push out.
Hope thats right and that it helps. Wont be taking money off u tomorrow night as im not going.

To Number 1, I believe that it is 3 object balls that have to cross the headstring or less, depending on the number of object balls that are pocketed on the break. I imagine that the ruling would be the same as the MC, where it would be ball in hand being the penalty for an illegal break, but I'm not 100% sure on this and so perhaps someone can ellaborate on this further Willie

Here you go: (1) Cue-ball does not count. (2) The GB9 (& Eurotour) ruling when you don't get 3 points is exactly the same as after a normal "dry" break. You cannot pass the shot to your opponent but you can choose to "push out". Also you can check the GB9 website: see "13: Break off" on this page: http://www.gb9balltour.com/tournament_regs.htm"Penalty for breach of rule: Proceed as if no balls were potted i.e. loss of turn with the incoming player having the usual option to push out." Hope this helps? Cheers, Mike [ This message was edited by: Mikey_Freedom on 2008-03-12 01:46 ]

Jamie you are actually spot on with your second question, the Euro Tour have changed the rules regarding the break which are slightly different from the GB9 Tour. If you do not make 3 points on your break, the incoming player can give the table straight back to the breaker who then has the option of pushing out (Euro Tour rules). ----------------- Chris @ Pro9[ This message was edited by: Buckster_uk on 2008-03-12 08:15 ]

Yea thats what i heard
The answer to number one is definatly that the cue ball does not count as a ball to cross the headstring.
I am 99.9% sure that in the eurotour, if you make an illegal break, you can pass the table straight back to the opponent, who can then play a push out.
This is not the case in GB9 and if a player makes an illegal break, it is for the incoming player to take the next shot and does not have the option of passing it back.
The mosconi cup was the same as the GB9Ball tour, you would not incur a ball in hand for an illegal break, as it is not a foul shot, but the table would be passed over to the other player who was then required to take the next shot, and had no option of passing the shot back.

Thanks everyone for clearing this up for Jamie. We are basically using the same rules as the EuroTour before they made the recent rule change. Regarding balls past the string I'll update the wording so it clearly states 'object' balls.
