Hi All
I've been looking for a suitable location within Cornwall for quite sometime now and last week had a very positive meeting with the local council with regard to an available site.
9 Ball is non existent in Cornwall and with flagging interest in the local pool and snooker leagues, the timing couldnt be better.
I've got to gather various information before another meeting at the end of this month and want some advice and "National" feedback please............
Do you consider Cornwall a bit out on a limb with regard to travelling for tournaments? Would the prize fund have to be considerably bigger than the norm to entice you to these shores? Would the big guns come down this far?
I will be collating prices for equipment over the coming weeks. Of course I will give Dave a list of what I am after to see if the Pro Shop can help in anyway, but assuming there are club owners and professionals that will read this; are there any ports of call I should be considering to kit my place out with the best gear at the best price?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Exact size is to be finalised with council at next meeting. Its kind of a clean slate as the previous Social club is about to be demolished to make way. In an ideal world, I am trying to find out the square footage of the club in Solihull or the pool floor of Rileys Plymouth. Having trouble getting the info though. This doesnt mean it will be of a similar size, but will give me an idea of context.
I'm hoping to house between 10 & 12 American Tables, 4 Snooker tables and 8 English Pool. Would love to be big enough to attract the GB9 in future but unfortunately, the extra space needed to meet the criteria would push the rent and rates sky high!

What part of Cornwall. I personally don't think you should stray too far away from Saltash as Cornwall is not the easiest of Counties to negotiate. Too many lanes and tractors. In my experience in can take 45 mins to get from Plymouth to Paignton which is about 30-35 miles and it can take an hour to get from Plymouth to Launceston which is only 25 miles away.
I would also be worried about the price per hour as Cornwall is a low income area and £5 an hour would be quite expensive.
I'm not trying to be Mr Negative but Mr Realistic. And before you ask my knowledge of Plymouth & Cornwall is that I lived in Plymouth for 16 yrs and my brother has lived in Saltash for 10 years.
However, I plan to move back to Plymouth in 2 years and would welcome the opportunity to play the Top players of the South West in competitions.

St Austell, Mid Cornwall.
Negotiation of route wont be too much of an issue, its about a 20 minute drive from Newquay airport or a 5 minute walk from a main line train station. Sat Nav i'm sure will be an accesory for any other travelling player, especially for the people who do the majority of the travelling anyway.
Currently, the County Pool and Darts venues have been stuck at the same place for approx 10 years, not through choice but simply because there are no other locations within the County that can offer similar facilities.
St Austell is currently undergoing a £50 Million makeover and whilst you are correct about the incomes of SOME, there is a staggering amount of money spent on the social side of things down this way.
Price per hour could easily mirror that acheived in Plymouth because there is no competetion whatsoever!
The only other 8 ball venue I mentioned is some 10 miles away and besides them, there are only pubs and clubs that use coin operated tables. Not great value if you are a serious player.........
Thanks for the post, Points of view like this are much appreciated.

Good luck with the venture if you decide to go through with this pal. We need more committed people like you in the UK.

You could run two day events, that might entice people down there rather than a quick one day comp. If it was in summer we could all come down with the other half and let them have a trip to the beach/shops (Everyone's happy!)
I would definately fancy that.

I would definitely come down and when I move back to Plymouth would love to play in a league of knock out comps there.

I would love the chance to come down and do a weekend over there, Would be a huge drive for me but even worse for some others. one day event would be a stretch but even if you maybe run either a two day event or maybe two or three single day events, so players can get the most out of the weekend's events and all ahve a crack at the whip
