Alright,

What's everyone's opinion on the Predator shafts (314, Z2) and Universal shafts?

I'm buying a new cue for the gb9bt and have been advised to get a Z2 which I was going to do as I thought it was generally accepted that Predator were the most accurate. But then someone pointed me in the direction of the Universal ones!

Whilst I'm here, I've seen some cues I like the look of called Poison. Anyone know anything about these? The two in my price range are the Anthrax-ax1 and Anthrax-ax4.

Both come with Z2's at an extra cost. It looks like the butt will split into a jump cue but I'm not sure.

Cheers

I dont know anything about the cues but I found this in the information part of an ebay ad for them so consider carefully:

"JOINT TYPE:
Uni-Loc® Bullet™ quick release joint system.
    * The Uni-Loc® corporation also makes the patented joint systems currently used in Predator and Lucasi! The Uni loc Bullet joint is a different Uni-Loc type joint than the one used on the Predator and Lucasi cues, so they are not interchangeable." :-o

I think you should speak to your fellow converted UK 8-baller Darren Appleton about the differences playing with 314 or Z.

I believe he switched to a Z and not long after went back to the 314.

Try to hit a few balls with different cues, see which feels best for you.

the Anthrax Poison range is a cheaper version of the Predator range, i personally would save my money or try and get a cheap 2nd hand original predator.

I started with a Z shaft i now play with a 314(2)..i didnt really like the Z shaft i was getting too much spin with it...as maddog said your better off trying both if you can

Hmm, definately like the poison cue and I can send it back if I don't like it. Haven't played with a 314 though so will try and get hold of one.

Cheers for the info on uni-lock, the website I'll be ordering from supply them with Z2's or 314's so I'm assuming it will fit (why else give the option?). I just take it the Predator shaft I'll be getting won't work with normal uni-locks?

Same seller on ebay, Z2 shaft for poison

"Predator Z² Bullet Joint Shaft - 29" - Black Joint Ring

Only Fits Poison Anthrax, Arsenic and VX Playing Cue "

Seems they make Z2 shafts with different uni-lock joint to fit the poison cues so as you wrote it would be a Z2 but would not fit a Predator Butt.

I have a Z2 shaft for my Balabushka and also a Pred Sneaky Pete with a Z2 shaft and i find the cue ball control brilliant. Personally i didnt find the 314 as good.

Like with any sports equipment, its what the individual feels comfortable with that counts, if we all preferred the same thing the world would be a boring place

hi mick, a couple of points to bear in mind, according to the custom cue makers on a/z the worst hitting joint is a quick release, best is radial, as the poison is an odd size i say steer clear, what is your price range?, get in touch with simon duvali as i know my mate traded back a pred 5k, one last thing playing cues dont break down into jump cues, paul

By the way, I'm not Mick!

Cheers for your comments, I meant in terms of size when I said if it will break down into a jump cue.
