Hi, the missus has given the go ahead for me to get a new playing cue in the new year, im thinking about either a Meucci 9715 with black dot shaft or Pred 5k2 with Z'2 shaft. Wondering what you all thought of theese two cues or recommend anything else in same sort of price range. [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2007-12-30 13:08 ]

I don't have any expierence with Meucci, but I've heard (read on AZB) a lot of bad things about todays Meucci cues. As with Predator, I don't think you can go wrong.
But I strongly recommend you to try some cues (cueshop or from other people at your local club) out before buying them.

I recently purchased a new cue and sort some advice first.
My mind was pretty well made up that i was going to have a predator, My dilemma was which one and which shaft.
I had some good advice which pointed me towards getting the 314 2 shaft opposed to the z 2. The reason was that the z 2 apparently suited people with more of a snooker background.
The result was that i bought a predator 5k1 with 314 2 shaft and to be honest it's brilliant, I had only used cheaper cues before and the difference was noticeable straight away.
In a nutshell i am not sure about the meucci 9715 but you really can't go wrong with a predator. If you are near to Derby your more than welcome to have a knock with mine if it helps .

I went from a Balabushka, which was a very good cue to a Predator 5K6 with a 314-2 shaft & i have never looked back since. My game has improved probably 3 times as much. Awesome cue.
Not sure about the Meucci never used one and don't know anyone who has............sorry!

Cheers Simmo, im in Doncaster mate so it would be a bit of a trek. Ive had a knock about with a mates cue with a Z'2 shaft and got on well with it. Think its gonna be the pred but im gonna try a 314'2 shaft first before I decide which shaft to go for.

TBH the build quality of Meuccis over recent times have become appalling. Seen loads of them where the butts have literally fallen to pieces and looking at these 1s the quality of the materials used is really poor also.
Be worthwhile trying as many different cues as you can. I know personally i hate the feel of full predator cues but use an original 314 shaft with a custom Jensen butt.
A lot of people dont like the balance of the full Predator cues but it's really down to personal preference.

Hey Matt, how are ya buddy? I had a Meucci "Gambler 2" with 3 shafts (2x Red Dot and 1x Black Dot) and I found the Black Dot shaft a little weird to shoot with, but in saying that, I had been playing with the original red dot shafts for serveral years before, from when I got the cue there isn't really a comparison, as everyone has thier preferences and although I had the Black Dot shaft, I rarely shot with it because I simply didn't like how it hit. I guess everyone has thier preferences, but I think that its worth trying a few cues out before deciding Willie

I've had good experiences with the recent Joss cues, even the real bottom dollar one's. IIRC Paddy's using one of them to very good effect with a Z/Z2 shaft.
Its only the latest Meuccis I had bad experiences with in terms of build quality plus I can't believe the money they charge for them when IMHO there ar FAR superior cues for the same or less money that don't fall aprt.

thought I'd chime in on the subject. I've owned both type cues that you're trying to make up your mind about.
I gave the Meucci black dot shaft away. It started de-laminating (coming apart). the quality control currently at Meucci is non-existant.
I kept the Predator for about six months, found a mark that "just had to have it" and I sold it. in my opinion, their quality has slipped since they are not made in the USA anymore.
Neither shot to my satisfaction. there was no feedback, for a lack of better words, when I shot with them.
my current, everyday, player is a Lucasi sneaky-pete butt with a Bill Stroud Universal Smart Shaft. it shoots very consistent, never any surprises. I have to hide it from my pool friends, because they like it, too.
as for Meucci and Predator, if it was me, I'd pass. hope my observations could be of help........

well i played fantastically well with a £30 metapool.........but because they are machine farmed and built to sell on the cheap, rather than last, i went through 3 shafts in 6-8 months; finally i upgraded to a meucci black dot, which i just could'nt get used to......in the end i bought a predator 4k5 - which is effing class................you will love them

PC used the Intimidator shafts and was impressed with them. Had no personal experience with them. They don't seem to be an "in vogue" shaft more than anything. AFAIK Thomas Engert uses the Intimidator equilavent of the Z shaft.
