Sorry Willie, I hate being the dictatorial admin, but I've had to delete your post for the following reasons. 1. Maybe you haven't been to Rileys recently, but they were never even average, they have always been superior to the run of the mill pool and snooker clubs out there, and now they are even better since the majority of them have undergone unbelievable face-lifts at great expense (it's rumoured that Rileys Victoria, for example, spent in the region of £400,000 on their paint job - that's over $800,000 for a modest sized club). 2. Add to this fact that only last weekend our sponsors (both of this website and our new Pro Tour), - Rileys, donated over £4,000 of free table time to the Barnsley 9-Ball Open, and another £4,000 of table time to the University Pool Council's 9 Ball Championship's event, and you'll realise why we never bad mouth our sponsors here. Seriously, you must come and check out some of the many new style Rileys clubs, they really are eye-wateringly beautiful nowadays. The most luxurious fixtures and fittings, pine panelled bars, leather sofa's, designer furniture, professional poker equipment and tables, tasty menus and even attractive staff! ...You may even get a little action! ^^^ Rileys Southfields! ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2007-12-06 10:53 ]

Hi BigDave, that's a fair point and I understand and agree with your reasons totally Granted it has been a few years since I've played on the mainland, and so, I realise that it is unfair to compare the clubs now to what they were back then, and so I wholeheartedly apologise for my previous reply and I happily stand corrected Willie ----------------- If ya got 'em, smoke 'em [ This message was edited by: TheWizard on 2007-12-06 11:18 ]

Its true that Rileys have always been better than the run of the mill clubs in the UK. I've found that the quality of the Rileys club generally seems to be based on how many cue sport enthusiasts are actually working at the club. In my experience though, on the whole the standard is not great when you compare it with overseas, but I'd agree with Dave that the standard is getting better. Personally I would just like to see a little less of the £400,000 spent on paint in Victoria and little more on new cloths/balls equipment etc in all the clubs (like what is generally done with snooker and UK 8-ball pool).. just my 2 cents BTW: just love the little staged clenched fist as he sinks the 8 ball at the end of the youtube ad . Well I only just got back from Spain so didn't see the original post but well said BigDave. I can't speak for all Rileys clubs but all the ones I've visited recently are very, very good and of course everyone knows that the one I play at is absolutely top drawer.
Not speaking about Rileys now just in general but one thing we should remember in the UK when we see beer stains on cloths or shabby table conditions is who it is that caused them to get that way in the first place. A little less lager loutish behaviour and a bit more respect for people and places would do the world of good but sadly some people from this country still don't know how to behave themselves and spoil it for everyone.

agree with riggers totally in my club we often have and i,ll use the term loosely players who abuse the tables by puttin drinks on em sittin on em playin their version of jump shots ie scoopin the white & generally treatin them with total disrespect they then complain that the tables are bad and not worth the money but why should rileys recloth em regularly when thats how they get treated, this then spoils it for those that like to be serious & play on good tables

I agree, i have just seen the original post, my club does have most of them things and the staff are great. Regarding the ost above i seriously think that maybe some clubs should researve maybe one or two tables for players that they know are going to trat them with respect

it would be nice for 1 or 2 tables to be kept aside but rileys are a business and need to make money so therefore want as many tables on the go at all times and in the case of my club if they kept a table speciaally 4 the serious player then it would perhaps only get used 2 or 3 times a week.

yes, i can see your point. But in m local, if they put 1 or 2 aside then it would benefit them i would think, as they do not get a full house of customers in there....ever. And seeming as it is only a 9 pool table club thats not great as it is. It should really be down to maybe local management's decision on this.

i agree i,d love it if my club kept aside a table that was only used by serious players and was kept in good condition & maintained regularly but i can't see it happenin. although the tables at the minute aint that bad in general how long that lasts is anyones guess and the club is a nice place with good friendly staff

I suppose an easy solution would be to say. for example, table 9 is only used when either you are a known serious player, or when all other tables are full.
Like in a snooker club (I believe this is true for most snooker halls) there are junior and senior tables, which vary in condition.
Even a bad player enjoys a good table, therefore the better the club the more people come back.
Rileys have definately improved there are some lovely clubs out there now.

Just for comparison...The US does have some nice clubs but I have to say, compared to the Rileys photos many pale in comparison. My local club was at one time a lumber sales office (could still be mistaken for one). Exposed wooden structure for ceiling with no paint, shabby carpet, construction materials look like they came from a salvage yard (some did) Tables are recovered yearly but not well maintained between re-coverings, not level, brushed once a week (needed or not) LOL A local masse "champion" is allowed to practice on any table he likes. Those tables look like they were blasted with a shotgun afterwards. I've spoken with the club owner about it, but he says "the guy spends money". I say fine but he's driving business away. Would seem to me, those that abuse the equipment would/should be asked to respect the equipment or not use it. Only one table is kept in good condition..."The Money Table". I thought all of em were "money tables"!! Kudos to Rileys!!!! If I am ever able to visit the UK, I would love to visit any of the Rileys.

they have definatly improved and they seem to be listening to the players more often than they used to. just seems as though a few small differences would do them the world of good.
