Mathhew Lawrenson is in the last 16 of the Youth World Championships after two tight opening games. He won his first round match 9-8 against Japan's Yusuke Shibata. Shibata is now in the Losers qualifying round after a 9-4 victory in losers round 2. Mathew then took another 9-8 win against Hong Kong's Haoxiang Han. Han now waiting also to play his losers Qualifying match. There is a mixed continental entrance into the last 16 so far, including 2 Chinese Taipei players, 2 German players, and 1 player from Russia, Hungry, Japan and Great Britain. The Phillipines fate rests on the shoulders of Rene Mar David, who, after loss in the Winners Qualifier to Japans Tomoya Iima 9-5, now awaits his second bite of the cherry against Petri Makkonen, who co-incidentaly knocked out Davis's fellow countryman Mark Aristotle Mendoza in the previous round. There is also the possibilaty of having 3 players from the USA in the last 16 with Christopher Futrell, Richard Barney and Landon Shuffet needing wins to qualify in there losers qualification match Continentally, Europe's hopes look the strongest with 5 out of 8 who are in the last 16, Against Asia's 3. overall the Asians have 11 players left in the tournament, out of a possible 24, Europe are lying second with 8, the Americas have 4 and Australasia's hopes lying with the single man of Nick Pera. Today's matches will unfold the Losers Qualifications matches, the Last 16 and the Quater finals, with Semi Finals and Finals scheduled to be played tomorrow. QUOTE !!! ko,pin yi to win but good luck to the british geezer Ko Pi Ying looks the man to beat, he has lost just 1 rack in the 2 matches he has played, picked up 9-1 and 9-0 wins. and the match he won 9-1 was to an American who beat Stephen Lamens of Germany 9-4. And if i recall Stephen Lamens beat Andy Worthington 10-6 in the last eurotour, and was only just squeezed out by Jonni Fulcher 10-9 in the next round. Just shows the quality of the players [ This message was edited by: Ads on 2007-11-29 13:22 ]

Last 16 is announced
Matthew Lawrenson faces Finland's Petri Makkonen, with the winner having a possibilaty of having to play Pin Yi Ko from Chinese Taipei in the last 8.
Only 1 of 4 players from the America's made it through the losers qualification round, Landon Shuffett from the USA went through, with Christopher Futrell (USA), Richard Barney (USA) and Diego Gomez (VEN) going out 9-3, 9-4, 9-6 respectivly.
There is a strong possibility of haveing an all Chinese Taipei final, with two of the players at the top and bottom of the draw, with the third not having to play one of his countrymen until at least the semi finals.
Likewise we could have an all Japanese final, Whereas the other nation with more than 1 participant remaining, Germany, are all in the top half of the draw (top three matches to be precise).
Nick Pera from New Zeland faces Hungary's Attila Bezdan for a place in the Quater Finals

Ruslan Chinahov has just been eliminated from this event in the last 16, losing to Yusuke Shibata of Japan.
Chinahov has had impressive victories in previous Eurotour events, especially against Brits. Included are Mark Gray 10-4, Matthew Lawrenson 10-5, and even World Champion Daryl Peach 10-8, all in the Weert open in the Netherlands

European's threat to have both the Mens and Youth 9 ball champion has crashed to a halt in todays play, as all European Participants have gone home 1 day before the end of the event.
Nico Wehner (GER) went out 11-6 at the hands of Yu Lun Wu (TPE) to be the first player out of the last 16. Countryman Fabien Brewer (GER) Also went down to an Asian, this time with a tight as you can get 11-10 scoreline.
The last 8 was an all European-Asian affair as the last remaining players from the Americas (Landon Shuffet) and Australasia (Nick Pera) were both taken down by the Europeans 11-6 and 11-9 respectivly.
The Europeans that did make it through the last 16 were to take it no further as all three of them, Matthew Lawrenson (GBR), Attila Bezdan (HUN) and Thomas Luttich (GER) were all beaten by their Asian counterparts.
Matthew Lawrenson in particular was on the end of a rather nasty drumming by, who now must be the favourite to take the title, Pin Ye Ko of Chinese Taipei. Ko only dropped 2 racks in this match which takes his total up to an amazing, played 4, won 40 racks lost 5 racks.
The Semi Finals take place tomorrow at midday, Chinese Taipei are guarenteed a Finalist and could possible have an all Taipei final, as three of the four left in the competition are from Chinese Taipei. The other man left in the compatition is Yusuke Shibata of Japan, who requires to pull something special out of the bag if he is going to take this event.
