Just read the article on soft breaks at the WPC and what they did to prevent them..
Why not just have a rule..like...4 ormore balls have to pass the middle or something along those lines?
What is the official 9 ball break rule?

Either pot a ball or make 4 balls contact a rail.

took away the art of 9ball for me a little with the soft break, love to see a good old crack of the break and the white bein controlled with skill.just made it a little predictable at times with the tapped tables.

yeah for me too, but daryl progressed under both mediums.....................
or maybe adopting a familiar 2 beyond the headstring may do the trick

I fall kind of down the middle with this. Watching a player make a ball and nicely control for a good run is nice to watch, however it is slightly predictable as you move up the skill levels. 9-Ball looks so easy on T.V. that the run outs after the soft break make it boring sometimes, so for TV in particular I can see where the rule benefits. I think as long as it is alternate breaking it gives people a chance. Then it is down to "holding your serve", and waiting for your chances on your opponents break to take advantage of the match.
