I just need peoples opinions on whether these tips look any good or should I avoid them like the plague: Also they are 14mm but my break/jump cue is 13mm and I was wondering if I can cut it down like a normal tip to fit my cue or not?. Any help is appreciated. [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2007-11-05 11:36 ]

WHITE DIAMOND TIPS I think these phenolic tips are far better - I've been using them for a while and they jump and break well with loads more grip than the standard phenolic tip. Most tips are 14mm so when fitted by a pro cue maker they are trimmed down using a lathe. You will be hard pressed getting 13mm. I would get 14mm and pay somebody to fit it if you are not confident. Phenolic are the hardest to fit if you don't get a perfect bond with flat surfaces the tip just pops off. I use a tip wafer like in the pro shop here when I fit these as it helps get a good bond. Can I just remind everyone that we don't permit links to other pool businesses in the forums! I'm sorry, but otherwise we would have everyone advertising their shops in the forums and it's only The Pro Shop that pays for this website. ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor

You know I love you all, and I hate censoring stuff... I'm sure when we are established as the mini "AZB" of Europe I'll be happy to allow anything. [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2007-11-05 13:06 ]

Back on topic... Has anyone managed to trim a 14mm phenolic tip down to 13mm? Is it as difficult as it I think it is?

i would just get a local cue shop to do it, it only cost me £2 to have my moori fitted (i realise that this is not phenolic) but i dont think it'd be much more than this

I have managed to trim a phenolic tip down - I built my own cue tipping gadget spins my shafts on a work bench. I cant go as far as calling it a lathe but works great. Pro shop results every time. Wow I should sell these along side my ball polisher But to be honest, with out a lathe or gadget it's rock hard to trim down as they just look like a 5 year old did it. Normal hand held tip trimmers don't really work at all.

that reminds me of something i sold this bloke a Sledgehammer and he thought i had shaped the tip too much! even tho it was a normal shape, next time he saw me he said " i wanted to re-tip that cue you sold me but i couldn't get the leather tip off, so i had to get a stanley knife and razer blade to get it off it took me 2 hours"after i had finished laughing in his face i had to tell him it wasn't a leather tip and that's the shape it started with..poor guy he's not well...but to answer your question it could be done..i think

I think we are talking about 2 different things. Tip ferrule combinations like on a sledgehammer - replacement really should only be attempted by a pro cuemaker. But just sticking a phenolic tip on an existing ferrule (like a normal tip) can be attempted with the right gear and a little knowledge. Can be tricky though and as I said before hand held tip trimmers don't cut phenolic. I'm not at odds with Wayne's post, just in the UK with the lack of pro cue repairmen we need to be a little inventive at times. We need more cue repairmen in the UK for American cues!!!!! ----------------- www.themole.me[ This message was edited by: The_Mole on 2007-11-05 18:25 ]
