Just received a text off Tommy Donlon telling me his backer has let him down for the match and apologising to me and Daz, effectively killing the match at the weekend.

Well, things are not as simple as that with only one week to go.

I have gone to considerable expense to get this match on. Bought the cloth, paid for the promotion, rung everybody in the UK that matters and general messing about to make things perfect for the weekend.

Not to mention.....

1) Jella Singh has gone to even greater expense to sort his club out for this match with the table refurb, re arrangement of his club to accommodate all the spectators;

2) Lost revenue for Jella on the 13th;

3) Daz has trained real hard for this match...and for what?;

4) literally hundreds of spectators having made arrangements for the weekend not to mention hotel bookings, train tickets, bus fares, etc;

5) If this match wasn't going to happen, Daz should be in America for the US OPEN on Saturday....is he even going to be able to go now? ...and what about the World Championships?

More questions need to be answered and whilst I am not blaming Tommy, I certainly would like to speak to his backer. I don't see why I should have to go to all this trouble and expense only for the rug to be pulled out from under us with one week to go.

So I will ask you again Tommy, I would like the name and number of your backer so we can straighten this out asap.

I am not a happy man and Dyno is devastated. This is just not cricket.

Sorry to hear of your bad news in particular and for the UK 9Ball scene in general.
But, just out of curiosity Simon. Did you have an event contract drawn up before embarking on your match promotions?

No I didn't, all gentlemans agreements from the start off.

Lesson learned the hard way. I won't be caught off guard ever again.

It's just ridiculous when this type of thing happens. I've had it happen to me twice this year too but obviously for much smaller amounts. You should be able to take a man at his word but it seems this is often not the case anymore. I feel sorry for Daz because I know how much effort he's put in to get ready for this match and the sacrifices he's made. Let's just hope it's a misunderstanding and it can be got back on. IMO Tommy has to sort out compo for Darren & Si whether or not this is paid by his backer.

couldnt they just play the match just with no money involved least that way all the hard work would have been worth some thing?

even if its for something a lot less like £1000

I'm sure Darren would play for a smaller amount. The responsibility is now with Tommy to come up with an acceptable compromise. Let's wait and see if he does.

if 10k was the minimum target then surely maybe half off that was being made up by the leicester community of pool players mainly from the 8ball scene......so whatever they were putting play for that......what coulkd we be talking....still 5k at a guess?.......

machine..... surely this cant just be cancelled....

A good suggestion.

However i think you are forgetting about: the players, backers, venue owners, spectators. etc.......Money makes the world go around....unfortunately....however reality.
So after being billed as the £20K match for the end of 007. £1K seems kind of..........an anticlimax at least.

So why didnt i get a call? lol

I think its wrong, people go through so much to organise a match like this and other people spoil it by doing stuff like that. I think you should give him a rollecking if you do speak to his backer simo

surely the liecester lads were chipping in well i know they were coz spoke to few of them at weekend and they were going to the game!

even if 5k each total 10k! not end of world! or he should at least be trying ie tommy!

to cancel the game 5 days before just hisnt acceptable to me,it been arranged for 3 weeks i been training and practising hard! was missing us open for this match...

people arranged to make the trip ,hotels booked ,jella and simon done a lot for this game, and spent money!

just ridiculous!

am confused and devastated with it!

Gutted too! Was going up to the APN on Sayurday just to watch this historic money match and I'm sure there were plenty of others. It seems the money needs putting up front in these things.

Hopefully it won't stop others in the future. Sorry to hear you cancelling the US open Daz. I'm sure it's not Tommy's fault....but still a great shame.

if they wasnt going to play why leave it this late to cancel when people have been spending time and money.

i feel sorry for diamond as he has done alot for the match such as getting cloth, having posters and flyers made.
