I have 3 cues now.A JandJ jump break,a barracuda snooker cue and an Adam pool cue. Some tournaments only allow us to bring in 3 cues.I usually bring all three when I play.Don't know if my jump break is counted as 1 or 2 cues. What do you think? Should it be counted as 1 or 2?

Being a pool nerd I've already checked this with Michaela Tabb previously and she told me a break/jump cue counts as one cue! Personally I think 4 cues should be allowed so that players can have a dedicated 3/4 length masse cue if they desire. Unlimited shafts are permitted apparently, it's the butts that count. (Remember to ask permission from the referee or your opponent if changing shafts as many places have rules that unscrewing your shaft is conceding the match). ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2007-09-05 09:23 ]

Now we are on my favourite subject, "Rules" The WPA, as far as I know do not limit a player to any number of cues so it is irrelevant if a Jump Cue counted as one or two cues. If that is the case, Michaela's opinion is just that an opinion. (I will expect an E-mail from her forthwith!!!) Later his month, the WPA will be meeting to discuss proposed new changes to the rules. These rules are expected to come into force on the 1st January 2008 Although the BCA no longer have anything to do with leagues and tournaments, the BCA Pool Leagues will be bringing out a new rulebook this month and I think that they will be sticking to the 3 cue rule" [ This message was edited by: malaguista on 2007-09-05 10:15 ]

What's the ruling on changing your cue part way through a match eg. borrowing one off another player if yours is damaged.

I am not sure if you are allowed to borrow another player's shaft way through a match.I think the shaft has to be yours.Remember what happened to Strickland at the Mosconi Cup.He damaged his shaft and had to use his breaking shaft to play the remainder.

There is no rule saying you can't change or borrow a cue. A tournament director could include it in the rules for a particular tournament if he so wishes but it wouldn't make a lot of sense.

In my opinion the cues you come to the table with should be the only cues you should uses. If you break a shaft half way through match then you have to use what you got. Its very off putting for the other player having to wait for you to get another cue like shafts, jump cues and break cues, if you dont have one of these then buy one. Players buy theses cases that can hold more than 3 cues and only have 2 in them what a waste. Look at tennis players they carry 2 or 3 bags with them when they go to the court you dont see them going off can i borrow your racket because i've broken mine time wasting. i thought tennis players swapped rackets a couple of times throughout the match.
i dont see a problem with having a jump and break cue, but beyond that i dont see the need to allow for any more.
i think not allowing a player to swap shafts is a good way of controlling temper tantrums, ie punishing a player for loosing their temper and breaking their shaft.
but masse cues is going a bit far, we all need to break, and jump so these are parts of the game and should be allowed. sb..

I think that 3 cues is the most widely accepted number of cues permitted. (Depending on the ruling of jump cues) Like it has been already mentioned, it's mostly down to the TD's choice for the event, as to whether Jump Cues are permitted, and if there aren't any jump cues permitted, then I would imagine that you can still have a 3rd cue, and that could be a masse cue or a secondary playing cue, if you're uncomfortable with the current playing cue, but again, it is down to the TD's decision Willie

So I guess the answer is, unless it's specified by the TD as a tournament regulation, you can bring, beg or borrow as many cues as you like during your match.

In a word, yes, if you are playing WPA rules.
I once saw a Spanish player, Francisco Diaz with 14 cues in an especially large case with wheels which actually held more than 14 cues if I remember rightly.

Just wanted to get your opinion on this.Is a predator butt really important or is a cheaper butt with a predator shaft good enough?

He had recently returned from the States where he had been living for a few years, he brought the cues to the match with the idea of selling them and turning a quick profit. No idea how he got on.

In fact, he took that "case" to several tournaments around Spain and it was slightly bigger than a golf trolley I think he made some profit but no as quick as he would have wanted to.
