i had a rethink with mosconi cup style event

originally myself ,mick, karl was going to play raj, imran.tony just a bit of fun and a drink over weekend in london, but i got a thought why not make it bigger !!hehe

i think we should have 5- 6 a side
same format as mosconi cup but ad 8ball.9ba..10ball too!

north v south 6 a team
am happy to captain team if nobody got a problem with that with darlys assistance?

6 man team or 5 man team what you think guys nothing silly as we all respect eachother but good practise and great format i think and make weekend of it ,
again i just think jellas club his the perfect venue for this and halfway in midlands for both teams?
make it annual event!

north v south

first 4 on north list
Darren Appleton
Daryl Peach
Mick Hill
Karl Boyes

other spot to be spoke about

south team first 3
rajold hundal
tony drago
imran majid
?
?
?

say a £1000 a man!?

am excited this is what pool is about that pub atmosphere

dynamite...... creating a buzz in uk

I wasn't suggesting infront of anybody! =]

I was just naming some other northerners who I think are worthy of a place. No pun intended!

All the players you picked are just as worthy! Don't get me wrong.

Why don't you hold a qualifier for the 5th spot?

I'm just thinking you might get slated for picking your own players.

No offence intended Daz

yes i understand where u are coming from! but on the other hand got to remember we are all going to be putting money up ourselves!

and the 5 ive picked are not defo!

but to the best of my knowledge
with the class the guys have above, and proven big team players ,and lots of experience etc they were my 5 if i was picking the team and all put a grand each up!

but ill be interested to see what everyone else thinks!

but remember its a money match team thing! we all playing together but to add a nice ring to it make it north v south!! in future it would be great to have a picking policy like mosconi cup ,but at moment i cant see how that can happen especially when the individual got to put a grand up!

lets say we had a qualifier and say steve higton won the 5th spot, someone in the original 4 might drop out ,which then causes problems !

i just think when each man putting a grand up as a team challenge to spice things up we should beable to pick the team how we see fit really!

but at moment its all ideas and nothing set in stone!

only way it could be picked like the mosconi cup would be for the players to not put any of there own money up!!

i didn't see the £1000 a man bit! LOL! That puts a different spin on things and I see where you're coming from.

Another alternative would be to do it after the first year of Riggers new tour and take the 5 or 6 best northern and southern area players on the ranking list and play for a trophy and maybe some prize money if you could get a sponsor for it.

also i used steve higtons name as a example it could be anybody winning qualifier 5th spot!!

i just feel if 5 players putting a grand a piece up you got to feel 100% sure ur happy with the team you are playing in!

and my 5 would be what have said!

other players like rocket esp and worthy come into my mind!!

but the 5 i picked are match sharp and play week in week out and all proven on big stage! imo!

totally agree mate
i think we should do our own thing this year and as founder of the event lol i should pick the team where am pretty sure all the players will be happy !!!

but if success which am sure it would be and it would create great interest in our game in uk and maybe over the world! then next year if sponors there can be Qualifiying formats and hopefully players in a position where no need to put money up! its all got a great market imo!!! and like you said it could had something else to really aim at ie the rankings on gb9ball tour and am sure it would create more entries and more publicity for the tour itself!

all good stuff and things getting exciting for uk pool!

I tip my hat to yourself Daz and others working to get pool back on its feet in this country.

I just wish we had some sponsors willing to step forward and plough some money into this sport.

Certainly think the UK no 1 Mark Gray should be involved, perhaps you could extend the teams to 6, you don't have to mirror the real Mosconi. Looks good though, get it filmed and sold on DVD, that should attract some sponsorship.

No Michael Valentine or Pat Holtz for the "north" or are you just talking North of Englandshire?

If so, why is this a "UK" Mosconi Cup?

I like the idea Dynamite of a mosconi style challenge between North and South, but it would be even more interesting to see players playing high stakes singles pool, mano a mano.

Melling v Hundal
Dynamite V Majid
Peach V Drago
Boyes V Diks
Hill V Hew/Gray

These would be my match ups, I am not too keen on doubles as a player only has 50% control over a game and if a plyer wants to know how good their game is then singles is the only way.
