I just received a set of joint protectors from Alton Takata. You can find him in azbilliards forum as CueCaps or cuecaps@yahoo.com .

I have to say he is great to do business with. He replied to emails within minutes and helped resolve any construction issues very fast. The caps are great and match with my Skip Weston rings 100% and the price was even better.

Here's a couple of pics (sorry for the quality)

cue caps 1

cue caps 2

While I'm on the topic I also want to thank Joe Matthews for doing a perfect job retipping and retapering one of my shafts in Belfast. Great job and a great guy as well.

Hey mate

Long time no hear. Alton has done a great job of those. He is making some for my Szamboti as I write this.

Sanjay is coming back soon. I have two James Whites of his.

Very nice.

However, I just can't get into the concept of joint protectors. Too much ***ting about when I take my cue out of the case for my liking. When was the last time someone damaged a joint when it would not have happened had they been using joint protectors? Nice for show but waste of time if you ask me.

I've seen a few damaged shafts that would have been ok with joint protectors!

Already got some for you pal.

A damaged joint is a major repair. Cue of Thunder witnessed my highly expensive Paul Mottey get launched from my case as I removed it from my car. It landed on the joint....with the JP on it. No JP....no cue...or a $1000 repair. I personally just use the plastic ones but when I saw what Alton had done for some other Szamboti owners, I thought what the the heck. They are for show as the plastic ones do the job adequately but like anything else....why do we buy nice stuff...half of the time its for vanity purposes...and why not.

I can hold on the Whites if you don't have enough space there Si :)
Hopefully I will be moving to London soon (or somewhere nearby) so hope to see you around playing in the tour.

Riggers I have a tiny (but believe me my eyes focus on it EVERYTIME I see my cue) crack on my ivory joint. Joint protectors can help minimizing these accidents. It's also useful for unilocs as (at least in the past) dust in the joint could make it impossible to unscrew the shaft.

Finally yes they look nice and this is probably why I got them :)

Yeah. How could i forget that. If i remember rightly was it an old case that it came out of?

That was a sickening moment.
