Also whats the difference between preditor shafts and normal shafts, is there a difference ?

Maybe thedimond could shed some light on this for me !!

About 1 millimetre.

I don't recommend Z shaft Craig. Just makes the game unnecessarily harder and your game more prone to mistakes.

Sorry Craig, I didn't reply cause I have answered this at least 5 times previously on here. I attempted to find the thread and couldn't so here we are in a nutshell:

314 - 12.75mm tip, Pro Taper
Z - 11.5mm tip, European Taper.

Now a pro taper is one where half way up the shaft, the width is uniform, ie: it is 12.75mm from the middle of the shaft to the start of the tip. This helps with the loop bridge among other things. This is why you can see a gap under the shaft when you roll it on a table.

A European taper is one where the shaft is big to small from the joint to the start of the tip....like a snooker cue. This shaft is marginally stiffer than a 314 (slightly less deflection) because of this taper. There should be no discernible gap under a Z shaft when rolled on a table.

314s and Z shafts have excellent deflection characteristics. If you load the cue ball up with side, you still aim for the contact point on object ball. With (some) regular shafts, you have to take into account the deflection of the cue ball. Most snooker and English pool players already adjust to this and don't even know they are doing it, it comes naturally. For example, Tony Drago and Mark Gray. They would both have to alter their games slightly if they moved over to a Predator shaft. I don't see them missing many balls though.

You are right in having a 314 on your cue.

I will explain more in detail at the weekend.

If you are suggesting there is zero (or even close to zero) deflection when using a 314 I have to disagree. Deflection is not just about the cue, it's about the tip too. I've never used a cue where there is no deflection. Whether that's more down to the tip or cue I'm not sure but I can't see how you can get to a position of zero deflection no matter what you are using. Maybe the 314 and more so the 314-2 helps to reduce deflection.

Give it a rest Riggers. Did I ever say zero deflection? I said excellent deflection characteristics. Less deflection, my son.

Your elevation of cue has a baring on this also. Masse shots are harder with a 314 compared with a regular shaft, because of the minimal deflection. Some people cue down on there regular shots, which will have a baring on deflection.

For info....I have just got two new 314-2s and myself and Sy Widlo loaded up each cue ball with side on the baulk line and they went in an almost straight line.

Anyone else? :-D

I take that statement as you saying zero deflection with a 314 otherwise you wouldn't aim at the contact point unless you wanted to miss the pot! Now maybe that's where you're going wrong diamond :D

Ha, ha!! Touche Turtle.

No one would argue that there is still some deflection. Especially over the longer distances. It is infact less and you still aim for the contact point with a 314-2....although some deflection still must be accounted for over a pot of 6-9 feet (between cue ball and object ball). Is that better?

Don't teach your dad how to slurp eggs :-P I brought you kicking and screaming into 9 ball and cues, lol!

Nope, I had a mcdermott shaft that I would never in a million years get on with. They are so light and flexible that I struggled to pot even the simplist of balls.

It's all about personal taste. Try them out. I love the z shafts, they can be harder to use but there's plenty of benefits too!

In the end it's hard to go wrong if you choose a 314 tho'

I played with a 314 shaft on my Balabushka but could not get on with it at all!!!
But since then i have bought a Predator 5K3 with a 314-2 shaft and it has taken my gave to another level, much more control over the cue ball.
