At 9 or 10 ball I either practice the break over and over (not that you'd notice!) or I play the ghost race to 9. There are several variations of playing the ghost but I break and if I clear I take 1 rack. If I miss the ghost takes the rack. If I've no shot on the 1 after the break I take ball in hand and if I clear from there I count it as a neutral rack i.e. rerack. If I don't clear the ghost wins. They are always close games!

After just a couple of weeks he's about same standard as me. Already breaking well and 9 times out of 10 if he's got fairly easy run out he takes it. Any chance of that Striker chap making an appearance this weekend? Does he not have any phone credit? I mean, I did hear South Elmsall was a third world, poor town.
Didn't a local kid get knocked out by a food parcel dropped from a Hercules Transporter last week? Ha ha ha ha.

I play the Ghost as what Riggers said. I haven't won yet but had a 9-8. 8 all I had a run out then a 20 minute phone call....missed my next shot.
L drill is useful plus the circle drill. Will explain at weekend. Circle drill is cue ball in the centre of the table surrounded by balls (in a circle). Idea is to pot all the balls without the cue ball making contact with a cushion. Teaches cue ball control and cue ball position.
I also play straight pool on my own.....just started this recently.

Don't think Jump_Shot needs any lessons about cue ball control LOL. At least if he does it's when the cue ball DOES hit a cushion and even then his knowledge of angles is pretty good already. Another routine I sometimes play which might be good for you craig is to put 2 balls evenly spaced out on every rail then clear them all in any order you like, but try not to always go the easy way. Good for judging the use of running and check side from the cushions to get position on the next ball. Should be looking to swing the cue ball around with a loose grip and minimal effort. Christ Almighty!!!!, if you're playing the ghost with BIH after the break, you should be spanking the ghost everytime.
In a race to 9, on average, you should be aiming to be winning consistently between in around 9-5 to 9-2, once you've got to this consistency level, then you know that you're getting there.
I know of at least 40/50 various practice drills and routines, some of which require 2x full sets of balls on the table simultaniously, but unless there is a site, that I can use a table layout programme, without having to add any new flash players or any of this extra Activex Control Plug-in b*ll*cks (Yes, I'm talking about that darn cuetable site), then they're off the menu, but if I can get them put up in diagrams, then I'll post them up for anyone who wants them.

Yes Willie, which is why I made that variation where you only win the rack if you don't take BIH and can halve the rack if you have no shot on the one and choose to take BIH. How does that sound?

does any1 practice doubles or bank shots and jump shot, by setting different senarios,
eg = start off with a certain type of shot and hopefully run the rack

try the occassional game of bank pool to help with that.
Its one of the most amazing games to watch when done right and one of the most infuriating if you're playing it and making a mess of it!

i been playing the ghost too riggers but i like that bih when no shot on. i have been playing either bih every time and winning easily, or not ball in hand and loosing consistantly when not pocketing a ball or snookering myself.
i like your way tho, will give it a go tomorrow.
