Neither.... What!... I here you say I always had medium or soft moori tips on my cues and I recently moved to sniper and I must admit I like both but the sniper is a little hard to rebuff the edges when you cut the mushroom off after you have played a while. I have just put a kamui soft tip on my playing cue and I love it. Lot better than the sniper and at the moment I think it has the edge on the moori as well. Kamui chalks well and upto now held it's shape with lots of spin if you need it. Kamui well worth a try. Tried them all, and I'm going back to LePro! Just better for me ... seem to be consistant where as the others change throughout use.

I use a moori soft but I do go through them quite quickly and I find they need a lot of maintenance with the tip pick to avoid miscues. On Dyno's advice I'm going to try a crushed elkmaster soaked in milk. I put one on his cue a couple of weeks ago and believe he likes it a lot - and he won the first tournament he used it in!
I bought a vice especially for it so will try one on my own cue soon. When I tried Darren's it looked good and played nice but was just a little too hard for me so I'm going to experiment a little e.g. don't leave it in the vice as long or don't soak it in milk overnight. At least when experimenting with Elks it's not costing you 10 quid a throw!

That'd be semi-skimmed cos I don;t fancy the smell of sour cream in my case.

If anyone knows anything about this method I'd be very pleased to hear from them as there's very little info about it on the net. For example how long do they soak them in milk? How can you vary the hardness of the tip?
I reckon Darren has the equivalent of a Moori medium but I'd like to get something closer to a soft.

riggers your tip plays well and you get a lot of reaction on the cue ball.

I was messing around one day and I soaked a meduim moori in milk and placed it between 2 5 pence coins and places in a vice. I made the vice as tight as possible and I even hit the winding arm with a hammer to give it a nip. I soaked the tip for about an hour and viced it for about 4 days in a warn dry place. I now have the tip on one of my break cue shafts and I can even make jump shot with it. Tip is so so hard with control and I love it. I will say I later tried to make another for a friend and the tip just de-laminated and I did nothing different. At £10 a go I have not done any more

Maybe the fact Darrens was soaked over night instead of a few mins would make it harder. Think I'll try one without soaking first. [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-08-16 17:40 ]

I have tried Moori mediums and softs and i always go back to using Elks (maybe its being an ex snooker player). They just feel better in my opinion. I always put them in a vice overnight to harden them and give them a more consistent feel. (In fact I did that for snooker too). I have no idea about the soaking in milk idea but would be interested in hearing peoples opinions who have tried this. [ This message was edited by: TonyDavid on 2007-08-16 19:53 ]
