Hello all....
Just wondering whether there is going to be another World Cup of Pool???
I think last year was the first event of its kind and I'm sure it was around this time of year, but not seen anything advertised?
I think there were two teams last year:
Raj & Ronnie Steve & Daryl
Any light to be shed by anyone???
Cheers

Interesting pairings, the ENgland team looks pretty strong and we are sending to of Spain's top 2 players. Nice to see Alex making a comeback and in partnership with Rico could do some damage. The Philippine team can't be ignored obviously and the Taiwan team is going to be very dangerous.

I was wondering the same thing, Paddy, but I know one thing's for sure, if the Irish team is confirmed, then you have most definitely earned your spot I and whoever your partner is, should be another player that actually play on the Irish tour, which is something that Tommy Donlon hasn't done, and with all due respect to Tommy, I don't believe that he should've been there on the Irish team last year. I don't have any problems, nor do I mean any disrespect to Tommy, I'm just merely pointing out that it should be players that actually play in Ireland, and on the Irish tour, that should get a chance to represent their country at the highest level. do u not think at the start of the year matchroom should have some sort of qualifying criteria in place????
seems like all the practice this year to get onto team was a waste of time..... roll on us open thats what i say.

Willie Tommy Donlon is Irish and the fact that he does not play on the Irish tour should not stop him representing his country. He probably doesnt play on the Irish tour because he lives in England and plays on BPPPA tour.

I'm kinda suprised at Ireland not being included this year, Paddy, especially since you guys were included last year, and to not be included this year makes no sense, but like you say, you've got the US Open to look forward to, and so now you can concentrate on that 110% I see your point cuesack, but I disagree, simply because I believe that anyone representing Ireland, should rightfuly earn their spot(s), by playing in the country that they are representing, even it it is only 1 or 2 events per year, that's basically making it unfair on any other players from Ireland, who would appreciate the chance to get that spot. I'm not saying that Tommy isn't Irish, I'm simply saying that it should be players who actually compete on the native tour, that should represent Ireland, and my views won't change on this, but again, I say this in the most respectful way possible. would be nice to know what the qualifying criteria is!!
seems unless play consistantly every event euro tour or uk events then no chance of getting in!!
but if travel around world to play against best in world in bigger events and do well hisnt good enough!
am guessing this goes on euro tour rankings if so why hasnt jonni fulcher made the team or does he represent switzerland?

not knocking daryl and imran the england team but it would be good to know why these 2 have been picked and who picked them is there a set criteria qualifying system etc? or do matchroom pick the teams on what they think ?
anyway good luck to them both !

Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Irland, Poland ++ not in... Guess they should have had a qualifier tournament days before with 8 open spots for countries not represented...
AND: The countries should select their players, not Matchroom. I believe that Matchroom choses the players they want in the tournament. (That's what I heard last year)

i think they should be trying to bring players who people havent seen on tv along instead of hindering there chances(same faces is boring)

no sweden thats a shock chamat will not be a happy bunny!!!
why have scotland got in front of teams like sweden etc none of there players play on euro tour!!
so way i gather things is you must do well in matchroom events or euro tour !! all other events dont really mean anything like us open, derby city classic, ipt, world 10ball,bca champs, upa events, world 8ball etc!
just be nice to know where we all stand regards to making these events as thats what where all playing for as the matchroom events are the biggest events we got to play in ! well thats what i think anyway!

Daz, I'm guessing that due to this being a Matchroom televised event, and being sold around the world to the highest/most-interested bidders, familiar names with an already established fan-base will always be nearer the front of the selection cue than, say, a player who has had a good first year.
Good? Naw... Exceptional first year!
Welcome to the world of TV. A pretty fickle bunch, so they are. But that's life and business is business. Ultimately, the viewers are the gaffers and the advertisers are the payroll. Or payola.
If this were the English 8-Ball World Cup of Pool, there would be no question about your right to represent, you've earned your stripes, but remember that Imran & Daryl have been treading the 9-Ball boards for several years and both have done England & the UK proud.
Plus... and this is a BIG plus, everyone (on the 9-Ball scene) knows who they are.
You're getting there though. And doing it the right way too.
I think you're a great guy Daz, and potentially a World Top 8 or higher 9-Baller, but in this case, I would be surprised if you were picked over Imran or Daryl (or Raj for that matter) for this year's World Cup of Pool.
There's always next year though. It is an invitational tournament, and the more fans you gather over the next 12 months will speak volumes to Messers Hearns & Riches & co.
So... to cut a long story short, best of to Imran & Daryl. But, I truly expect they'll get pumped by the New Kids....
Laydeez & Genteelmen.... I present....
Pat Holtz & Michael Valentine!!!!!!
Get it done boys!
