Hi all
I was asked a question about shipping and receiving cues internationally today and I thought I would share this point with everyone.
If your cue contains any ivory (inlays, points, ferrules, etc), I would avoid using a certain company to ship it for the foreseable future. They have hired an expert on ivory items and cue packages are being targeted for inspection. There are a number of cases where cues have been confiscated and/or large (and I mean LARGE) fines have been issued.
If you are currently in the process of getting a cue from abroad or shipping one out and you are unsure of the white material in your cue, PM me and I will advise.
I do not want to name the company on the forum but PM me if you need to know. I received this info from a source in the US so I don't know anymore info than that.

Also be aware that customs may charge vat on the item when it passes through customs

....and handling fee...and clearance fee.....and why did I even bother to buy this cue from the US when I have paid so much tax I could have ordered it from a UK dealer cheaper fee.
Sorry, went off on one there!

I got a cue the other week from the states and the guy who posted it had a devilish plan - he wrote " NO IVORY IN CUE " on the customs ticket. This clearly threw customs off the scent and they opened it straight away for inspection and a 2 week delay. I was very lucky that he was being honest and not trying to use the JEDI MIND WARP on customs and there was no ivory in the cue - but it did attract attention. ----------------- www.themole.me

Thank you for the heads up on this one Si , Luckily, I'm more into Ebony and MoP, e.g. "Palmer" and similar styled cues, and I'm glad that I have decided that when I do get the oppertunity to have some custom cues made, I'll ask for either holly, White Pheonolic or MoP, intead of Ivory, that way it'll be less heartache As reguards ferrules, although I liked the hit on the ivory ferrules, that was on the Kenny MUrrell, I like the hit with the "High Impact Resin" ferrules even better (Same material ferrules that is on the Andy Gilbert) Thank you once again for the heads up, and if you get the chance, send me on the details of the company to avoid, just in case the situation may require avoiding them. There seems to be a link between endangered species and exotic imported cues. I think we should all be responsible in this very sensitive area. I fear soon there will be very few 9-ball cue collectors left in the UK if this policing continues. The numbers are low as it is. Please help protect our cue collectors guys! OMG! There goes my chances of sending my Wayne back to have the butt cap refinished and a new wrap put on. I just can't risk it because if one company or customs officer checks it any could check it. So, diamond, what's the back up plan? Who can I trust it with?
