I am surprised at the date of this event since the World Championship finishes on the 11th November and many people will be travelling back from Manila on the 12th. After that flight they are going to be tired and jet lagged.

When I updated the Pro9 calendar I noticed that it was originally scheduled for a week later, they must have moved it forward by a week for some reason.

It says that the National Federation will chose the teams.....in a true ranking system, I pressume it would have been the top 3 players that would make up the 3 man team...
However, reading all the posts regards rankings etc, using EuroTour rankings and Mosconi Cup as an example, what do people think the criteria will be used by the BPPPA for the team selection process??
As everyone has commented over recent weeks, the standard of pool in the UK is on the up and the UK can boast several top class players - I pressume trying to squeeze the list into three spots will be tricky - but a good headache to have as it proves the high level of pool in the UK
Being unsure on UK season start and finish dates, would this team selection responsibilty fall under the new GB9BT remit???

Not this year for certain. Regarding subsequent years that remains open for discussion between us and BPPPA. I would however hope that all our top players are playing in all GB9BT events and therefore our rankings would be a good potential source for team selection. Funding is this big question here so this is where we will need to have discussions with BPPPA who remain ultimately responsible for this and our team selection.

Spare a thought for your long lost Friends who are stuck in Europe with no chance to play for their European country without a corresponding passport. You're back with the same problem as for Mosconi cup team again. I'd say, teams should be picked based on the players' national and international results, not necessarily on their country ranking. Just a thought. I wonder why I feel this way? ... hmmm....

Surely the fact that the article says: "National Federations will chose the teams" indicates that it is intended to provide an income opportunity for the individual Federations by holding qualifiers?

jonni has a good point. They best way I can see round that is via a wildcard selection.
Mark, you're right of course but would you really want to go if not funded?
I've been looking at the figures for the new tour and realistically the only way a tour can provide funding to events like this, without high membership costs or reducing tournament payouts (no-one really wants either of those), is with a good sponsor. And they are really hard to find right now!

I don't think a qualifier is the right way to go. We all know how fickle 9-ball is. One tournament result is not the best representation of who the best players are. The only way to do it is to select players based upon their record over the previous year or so.

Anyone know anything? I saw this event is no longer confirmed in the epbf calendar, but there is no information.

Dear Players, I received a email from the EPBF that they have decided to postpone the 2007 Nations 9Ball Cup until early 2008 and Ireland will still be offered the chance to stage the event when all is finalised. More details will be announced when new arrangements are made. . . Ronnie Boyle ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor
