Its nearly time for team selection again and I was wondering who we should have in the team this year? From last year I would drop Immonen and Majid and replace them with Daryl and maybe someone like Paddy or Vilmos Foldes. I look forward to hearing your input.

Couldn't agree more about dropping Immonen, i had money on us to win and for rodney morris to be the top usa points scorer last year. His bottle cracking cost me both bets. But i am not bitter!!!!!!! My team this year would be 1, Ralf souquet 2, Niels feijen 3,Thorsten Hohmen 4, David alcaide 5, Nick van den berg I am struggling with the 6th man, either Imran again or possibly Ronnie o'sullivan. i am sure the fans would like to see Ronnie but i am not sure how much or how well he has been playing. I can't imagine he would crack if we needed only 1 point...

Who ever finishes number 1 on the Eurotour rankings after the next event in Holland will defo be in....there are half a dozen players in with a real shout of finishing top including myself, but current No1 Constantine Stepanov from Russia has a steady lead going into the Holland event. The other five will be picked going off there results throughout this year. -----------------

Only if he has to stretch to take a shot, then we're in for an eyeful!!
I think you've gotta say (as simmo77) has stated: souquet, feijen, hohmen and alcaide. All solid players and will really be the base of the europe team.
Paddy is looking good (as I witnessed in Glasgow for the US open qualifier).
Also, give O'Sullivan a pop at it! It would be great to see it, even though I dont think we will.
Plus, if you want anyone to make a 7 ball, push round 5 rails to split the 8 and 9 up. Bank the 8 (with check) and then gently slide the 9 into the far corner pocket (at hill hill with only one point needed), Ronnie is your man

I detect some anti-English feeling here. Danny you best leave those taunts about skirts and Scotsmen alone. It's just a silly stereotype created by the media for small minded people. In any case, we wouldn't want those tight ginger jocks choking on their haggis now, would we?

My team would be: Fiejen,Souquet,Engert,Stepanov and any 2 from Peach,Ortmann,Petroni and Drago. I think all these players have been very consistent this year and would all handle the pressure if it came down to the crunch.

MAN, Its so great to have Mosconi Cup talk back on the forums. Ive been itching to start a thread for this years even for ages now, glad someone got to it before me. Well, Stepanov, if he leads after Holland euro tour IS in the Mosconi Cup. So lets assume he keeps that spot. Then, you need an Englishman. Peach, O'Sullivan, Majid, or maybe even old Steve Davis take that spot. Thomas Engert won the Masters this year and that seems another even that secures you a place (go and have a look at past winners and if they made the team that year) David Alcaide played brilliantly as a rookie and has done great this year, especially in matchroom event...gotta be worth a spot. That leaves us two spots left.... Ralf Souquet was the captain lasy year (or playing captain should I say) so should be back this year as he is a mosconi veteran and probably take the captain role again. That leaves one spot left. So many great players, but does Mika Immonen claim a place....for tv purposes!? I mean, imagine the event starts, they show flash backs of '06 with Mika missing and then do a close up of him saying can he make up for it this time around? Be great drama and likely to capture a few non pool fans attention perhaps? It could be however that like last year, a 5 man squad is announced and we get the same situation, the best euro/usa finisher in the world championships makes the teams...which could throw us up any name under the sun? Anyway...thats my take on the team...or the first 5 of it anyway. The Mosconi Cup is my favourite SPORTING event of the year, so I cant wait for it to begin. COME ON EUUUUURRRROOOOPPPPEEEEEE! Dazza

One problem this year, from a snooker player standpoint, is that the Mosconi is at the same time as the UK Championship Snooker. This automatically eliminates Davis, O'Sullivan et al from playing.

it's embarressing for europe. Danny, to save your embarressingment why don't you first type your posts in Microsoft Word and then use the spellchecker? You then copy and paste the corrected material into the forum.

For me, something like...
1. Niels Feijen 2. Ralf Souquet 3. Konstantin Stepanov 4. Nick vd Berg 5. Tony Drago 6. Daryl Peach
Reasons:
Euro Tour Number 1.
3 really experienced, reliable Euro Tour players.
2 quality, in form British based players for the UK TV audiences.
