I recently spent a week in Galithea, Northern Spain and although I have been to many tournaments in this country I have noticed that the standard of play of the Spanish players has gone up more than a few notches.
To outline my point Dazzler dazzler but was outrazzled by the ever popular Carlos Cabelloto take a 3rd place finish in the International Open event Imran Majid and Tony Drago found out the growing strength of Spanish players. Once upon a time Spanish pool meant just David Alcaide Now Fanazes, Cabello, Geuzman, Alcoberra, Diaz, Gaspar, Hebles, Lafoz, del Amo and others can all perform at international level.
The CEP, masterminded by Juan Dominguez and Carlos Inglesias Lorenzo and underpinned by the efforts of the enigmatic Peter Aprile have been without a doubt responsible for this phenomenon.
Spain is the benchmark to which every national association should aspire.
There were multiple events involving 1800 players but thanks to the extremely efficient staff (too many to single out) things ran as smooth as silk. But a couple of people need a special mention. Reuben, the Director of the Palais de Congres venue was a Hyperhost and my good friend Carlos, whose show this was. Every time he puts on something better than before.
It was also nice to see Andy Worthington is mmaking his mark. Dazzler’s Apprentice has learned well from his Master on the table but he is finding it hard to absorb some of the Peach Life Skills. Only Joshin’ Daryl. It was great to see you again and thans for the TD joke. Also move over John Virgo. Daryl’s impersonations of his fellow players are a riot!
But to me the star UK performance of the week came from Isabella Riches. Not yet two years old, this little lady has so much character that she won the hearts of us all. What a production from Liz and Luke.
No visit to Spain would be half as enjoyable without the presence of Peter Aprile (the original Old Git!). A True Super Hero, kept in place by his long suffering wife Kay. Twenty years they were celebrating while we were there.
Can’t wait to go back.

You are too kind DG but less of the "Old Git" It was a real pleasure to have you among us once again and your jokes get funnier every time I see you. You could run the joke thread on this forum on your own, you have such a store. I am proud to be a part of one of the best pool organisations in the world and as you say, we have many up and coming stars who hopefully will soon be making their mark on the world stage. I was hoping to see a Spain/UK final but sadly it wasn't to be with Daryl just missing out in the semifinal. Maybe next time. Now for some advertising!!!! For those who are not going to the Dutch Eurotour in September, there will be 9 Ball tournament in Málaga on the 14th/15th/16th. Top prize 3000 euros, First phase in groups of 8 with 3 from each qualifying for the final phase where they will join the top 16 from last year's tournament. Entry fee 90 euros. The December Eurotour in Benalmádena takes place on 6th/7th/8th and is immediately followed by the CEP Anniversary 8 Ball tournament on the 8th/9th/10th. Top prize in this event will be 5000 euros. Players, if you enjoyed this tournament you will enjoy next year's even more. We have decided to make the 1st prize a whopping 10,000 euros and it will almost certainly be in the same venue. Start planning.............
