This might be a completely ignorant view of mine, but im a not very well off, newly married man, I want to play in tournaments but often find travelling costs or overnight costs put me off going. should I just move further North (from Portsmouth) and thus allowing me to get to all these good tourneys kicking aroud? I know its not super expensive, but I really dont have much money, and i m considering getting a table which is going to set me back loads. anyone have any ideas short of finding a rich person to bankroll my mediocre attempts?

It's bl00dy cold and it rains all the time. Don't do it!

Eventually they'll realise that the big crowds turn out in the south east ... and they will come. Just a fact of life.

The world tour of Manchester has run it's course and people pretty much realise they have to start moving it around the country before it completely dies out.

But just wait, the biggest turn out will be when it hits London. Assuming they get rid of that pay in advance for all the comps idea. Not everyone can play every event.

Aside from the Tour events there are open competitions springing up all over the place these days. There's nothing to stop people from the South East arranging more of these, and I'm sure if they did and the money and format was right plenty of the Northern boys would travel. I know I would.

The pay in advance idea you refer to is being considered for the GB9BT because it does have many benefits, as has been demonstrated so successfully in English pool.

Nothing's cast in stone and we will be talking to players over the coming weeks. However, we have to accept that there will need to be some major changes to the tour format so we can attract more players, improve standards and increase prize money.

Don't do it - Maverick! They will robbed you and throw you down a coal mine. They talk funny and don't like spending money, worst of all is some of them are good at pool. It's not worth it! ;-)

I love 9 ball and am stuck in Durham UK. Extreme far to travel there is not even a decent pool room with 9 ball tables let alone any tournaments! Anyone who is in the area and would travel to tournaments and share cost of petrol etc let me know also if you would have a practise game.

mate i lived in scarborough 4 months ago, i found that leeds was the closest place with a real 9-ball interest so i think your gonna have to burn a bit of petrol to experience decent events/competition.
