I want some of your views regarding entryfee and format for my next event.
I'm thinking of an event somewhere in august to be held in Stretford with an entryfee of £100.With £2000 to the winner and top 16 get paid.Maybe it's to expensive and i will not get the turnout i expect, or does this sound great let me know.
The format i'm thinking of are round robins to start with and then a dubble k.o to secure your top 16 spot for the following day.The next day will be the same as above exept after the round robin it will be single k.o to the final.Let me know if you like round robins or rather stick to just dubble k.o.
Maybe i should do the event in 1 day and finish a little later with for example round robins and then single k.o. Or just dubble K.O all the way through.
Let me know what you think cause at the end of the day you guys will be putting up entryfee/giving up your time etc etc so therefor i want to make it as good a tournament as possible, with your views i can decide by majority what i will be doing.
If there are other things you want to mention that i've not covered or what you would like to see let me.
Thanks in advance Mike

Too expensive IMO. But the top players may be up for it.

You would need 20 runners to pay the £2000 that leaves nothing for the rest. Would go down well with top players and players from across Europe if advertised correctly. To make it a decent payout to the remaining field you would need at least 50 runners. If you go ahead marketing is the key [ This message was edited by: The_Teach on 2007-06-30 12:35 ]

I would personally love that format but it depends how long the races are in the group stage.

I was thinking about running a tournament like this but personally instead of the group format I would play single elimination with a format similar to the grand masters. Matches best of 5 sets with sets being race to 8.

At least 50 runners, but i think we have more than 50 really good players and maybe another 100 or so average players so who knows.

not many average players are going to pay £100 to enter a tournament imho, so you're relying on all of the really good players to play, many of whom seem to prefer not to travel to manchester regularly (so it would appear from bpppa turnouts).
good luck though, if you pull it off i'll be there

Why not just have 8 qualifiers, over various parts of the UK, say Victoria, Coventry, Mickey Flynn's, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Club 9 (Belfast), at say £40 entry fee, with a minimum of 16 runners in each qualifier, with the top 2 of each qualifier going through to the finals stages, and play the finals at Barnsley, so that it's a completely neutral and central venue for all the players That way, everyone can play in a qualifier, in their own area, thus saving the plays a little travelling expence, therefore allowing for more players in each qualifier, and that way, you can set it up, that if you qualify, you're guarranteed money, at least that way, the travelling to Barnsley won't be for nothing, for those who may be unfortunate to be put out in the early rounds It's just a suggestion though Willie ----------------- If ya got 'em, smoke 'em [ This message was edited by: TheWizard on 2007-07-03 14:39 ]

Yeah that sounds like a good idea. For two spots to be paid for you would need 16 players at £12.50 each.
I would certainly play for that value!

There are so many new events being mentioned I can't keep up anymore! Great for the sport though. I just hope you all turn out in force at the next BPPPA event when we should be making some exciting annoucements about a new tour for next year

The qualifiers sound like a good idea but not something i haven't allready thought about i guess if more peole would come forward to run a qualifier then it sounds like i would be up for doing it like this.At the same time though it will be difficult to make up good prize money when holding qualifiers. As for holding the final in Barnsely i think that my club in Manchester wouldn't be happy.

I understand what you're saying, then in that case, hold that qualifier in Barnsley and hold the finals in Stretford, but no matter how you do it, you can't have a qualifier in the same location as the final, because the players who get through, will have a slight advantage over the rest of the field, because they will have already been acustomed to the tables in that location, whereas if you have the finals on a neutral venue, it takes away any chances of unfair advantages and keeps the tournament interesting I have noticed though, you haven't mentioned if it would be a 9ball, 10ball, 8ball, etc, if you mentioned this, then you would have a more detailed response, from various players, a 2 day event, of either 9ball or 10ball, with a shot clock, that way you can have matches timed, round robin groups on Sat and single elim on the Sunday, at least this way, it allows the players to get a proper rest to play again the following day, therefore keeping the standard of play as good as you can possibly get No matter how you look at it, there are many ways that you could set up a tournament, it's down to what the tournament director and the players can agree on Willie

Don't think you'd get many amateurs turning up for £100. Definately not in Glasgow where only about 40 players turned up for £35 entry in the US Open Qualifier (first prize flights, accommodation and $500 entry in the US Open).
Even local tournaments are going down the pan at £10 a time because people don't like paying to lose (even though £10 for about 3 hours pool is decent value!).
Also, from my own experience (I've only been to 2 events so don't have a go if you think I'm wrong), I don't think the standard at the BPPPA is high enough to support the £100 entry fee with top 16 players getting cash.
There's a handful of players I would class as quality players, the rest are very good but not quality

Hey Bruno , how's it cookin buddy? Cool, I had a feeling, that it would've either been Paddy, Pat, Geoff or Big Yeti (Mike V), that would win it , well done to Paddy, he'll have a field day over there Just because I felt like changeing the flag, and I've seen only 1 member with a welsh flag, and so, I thought that I'd even the numbers slightly Willie
