Which of these escape shots do you generally prefer, when playing out of a safety? Although I can jump a ball to a reasonable standard, I still prefer kick shots, for various reasons Willie

I like to jump when possible...
Some people say I play the wrong shot by jumping sometimes... and should have kicked.
but surely you should play the shot you are more comfortable with and get better results, especially in a crucial situation.
fair enough in practise, experiment.
just what I think.

That's a good point Danny, and yes, it is better to stick with what you're comfortable with, but I guess as many players would say, it would depend on the layout on the situation, and also on how the player feels on the day Willie

I'm with u on this 1 Willie, I prefer 2 kick when practice, I think theres more satisfaction by making a kick, and i'l rarely play a jump unless i'm playing a pot.
On the other hand, when u find ur self in a different club with a table that perhaps has a dead rail or 2, then u have to favour any possible way of taking a bad bounce out of the equation!
I think the best way is to practice both and try not to have a strong favourite, cos if u have to play the option u like less in a pressure situation, ur not going to play the shot with the same conviction!
Having said that, my practice partner Jumpy McJump will probably post soon enough with a completely different view!!!! lol

Jump every time for me (within reason), coming from a yellows and reds background i am still coming to terms with the reaction of the cushions on the bigger tables.
With positional play as poor as mine my jump cue gets plenty of practice

A bit of a funny question this is.....all depends on the lie of the balls. e.g there maybe a clear jump shot on to hit the ball...but you may be breaking a cluster up with the cue ball which might be your insurance against the opponent running the rack!....there are loads of other reasons that you may want to kick/jump too. So for me there is not a simple answer to this one. -----------------
