Hey, what does everyone think of the game?
Personally I think it offers better chance for knowledgeable player to win. And pin point position required is tougher than area position in 9ball. Much less of a luck factor too.
I don't understand why all Eurotour events have to be 9ball (I know EC has 14.1 and 8ball event). Wouldn't it be nice if they put in a few 14.1 stops?

Surely that only applies when there are just a few balls left, up until then it is a pretty easy game since you can pot any ball you like. !!! QUOTE !!! Why change something that works? there are in excess of 200 players in every event and more than 250 in some. I bet those figures would drop if you included 14:1

I've only played it a couple of times just in practice. For me the number one feature of this game is the importance of maintaining constant concentration. There are other things, like ensuring your positional play offers choices (like 8 ball and snooker players should do) but if I'm going to practice it it's because I want to improve my ability to focus and concentrate. I personally would prefer 14-1 over 9ball everytime, simply because 9ball is a great game, but has got too much luck factor, whereas in Straight Pool, the luck factor is greatly reduced because of the call shot rule I would love to see more games like 14-1, 1-Pocket and Full Rack or 9ball Banks, being played competitively, but I doubt that it will happen anytime soon, simply because many players haven't heard of and/or played these games before, and so, the likely hood of a tournament, is minimal, but it would be a much better test of all around ability, than you're ever gonne see in a 9ball tournament. I don't see the point of these comparisons, the fact that 14:1 might be more difficult than 9 Ball has nothing to do with anything. Some might say that Rugby League is more or less difficult than Soccer but so what, Lawn Tennis against Clay Court Tennis, Steeple Chasing against Flat Racing etc............. The fact is that players and organisers have made a choice and in general, 9 Ball wins for its popularity.

First of all, if 14.1 is played between 2 good players, you're never going to get 15 open easy balls to shoot at, never. There are always going to be clusters to solve with precise cue ball movement. Breaking the pack open efficiently is an art of its own. And if you miss, you could sit in the chair for over an hour.
At 9ball, a position area of 1 sqare meter is sufficient sometimes, especially on tables at Eurotour events were pockets are set up way too easy. I mean for us lower skilled players, those pockets are OK, but for top pro players they are a joke. From what I've seen, the only way they can miss on those pockets is if their head is not right.
