In terms of dominance, you cannot look past Raymond Ceulemans.

in that case you may have a point by the sounds of things. if only someone could invent a cue sport merging pool, snooker & billiards into one for a once a year battle from the devils playground. peach v hendry bustamente v dave harold brewer v higgins and so on.(god im drunk)

i actually wrote something else but dave edited it for me. interesting how you selected quinten hann. do you think bruce grobbelaar and john fashanu are the best footballers then? in your defence i do remember him winning a snooker, pool, 9-ball combo event a few years ago. chris melling no, the other three possibly. I think the event also included Billiards, and I think it was called the Lindrum Cup or something, also Hann was Junior 8 ball champ, played in Snooker World Champs and World 9 Ball Champs. It is a shame that match fixing screwed him, his career and longterm bank balance, and John Fashanu was a legend and Bruce a sellout, that is all i can say on football [ This message was edited by: HELLRAISER on 2007-06-08 22:35 ]

I would have to agree with Raymond Ceulemans i belive in a challenge match a few years back well ok more than a few lol he took on REYES at 9ball and 3 cushion and he won both....i think if you have a search there might be some footage on you tube i'm just too tired to search tonight. For those of you who dont know the game 3 cushion (or carom) then you are missing out on what i think to be the hardest discipline on a table followed by snooker and 1pocket. I think the easiest has by far to be the 9ball....sorry all you 9ball players but just think how many times the underdog overturns a big name..........and it happens a lot more in 9ball than the others. For example Efren is the 1pocket daddy and i think the last 3 or 4 derby city classics he's entered he's placed first in this. In how many other disciplines has the same tournament been won consecutively by the same player? Snooker yes ... Hendry and Davis spring to mind again class players in a tough game these are the guys that are the best of the best. I might be wrong but without looking at records i struggling to think of many back to back wins players have had in MAJOR events in 9ball. ----------------- [ This message was edited by: PC on 2007-06-08 23:02 ]

Its got to be Steve Davis for me, not just because of what he has accomplished on the table, also what a great ambassador he is for cue sports and has been throughout the years. I know predominantly more for snooker than any other cue sport. But he has not been too stuck up to try the smaller tables which you would expect some snooker players that have achieved his level of success being, and at that compete with the same tenacity and competitiveness he did (and still does) at snooker throughout the years. But also mentionable got to be Efren, Hendry, Strickland (like him or not he gets the crowds in, whether for the right or wrong reasons), Jimmy White, Steve Miserak, Willie Mosconi, Johnny Archer, Buddy Hall and the list goes on. Had to have a chuckle at Quintinn Hann being on someones list I may as well put Peter Francisco on my list now [ This message was edited by: Luke on 2007-06-09 03:00 ]

Anorak alert!!!The mutli-discipline event mentioned above was called the Lindrum Masters and comprised of 8-Ball, 9-Ball, Snooker and English Billiards. The only information I've been able to find out about it (so far!) is that Quinten Hann was a 2-time winner of the event. There was also, however, another multi-discipline event held some 12-14 years ago in India called "The Golden Cue" which comprised of Snooker, English Billiards, Straight Rail Carom Billiards (with a weird rule where you got an extra point for each cushion used in the completion of the cannon) and Straight Pool. This was shown on Eurosport not long after it took place (my tape's long gone missing!) and it was an enjoyable affair with, if memory serves, Steve Davis emerging as the winner. Efren's 3 Cushion and 9-Ball match was against Torbjörn Blomdahl and can be found on YouTube:- Carom - part 1 Carom - part 2 Carom - part 3 9-Ball - part 1 9-Ball - part 2 9-Ball - part 3As for who I think is the greatest all-round billiards player ever, it's too close to call. Steve Davis has shown he could play pretty much any discipline going, as has Quinten Hann. There's a case for Mark Selby, too - you don't get to 2 World Championship finals in 2 totally different disciplines without having a phenominal amount of talent. For me, though, it has to be Efren. His all-round pool game is beyond phenominal - 3 World All Around titles at DCC, unstoppable at One Pocket, major titles in pretty much every discipline that titles are played for on a pool table. Then, put him on a Carom table against the best and he can hold his own. Reports of him playing snooker against the likes of White and O'Sullivan came out of the woodwork when he won his World 9-Ball title in Cardiff in 1999. My vote goes to The Magician. Plain and simple. OK, I'll go put the anorak away for now. Best wishes thecardman www.scottish9bal.com The Cardman's Blog Heck, I'm even on MySpace!
