I'm thinking of trying some practice at 14-1 on my own to try and improve concentration levels. I just wondered, when playing this on your own and trying to achieve your high break how do you actually start the first rack? It seems silly to start off in the conventional way i.e. a cagey safety to the foot rail. Also it sounds like cheating to just give them a smash!
Do people start of by strategically placing 1 ball near to the other 14 then splitting the pack after potting that, simulating how you would start subsequent racks?

I don't think anyone would have a problem with smashing them open with a good hard break and giving yourself an easier start to your first 14 balls.
Anyone else?

I would practice the normal break until an opportunity exists to make a (more viable) high break.

At the Derby City Classic, they have a Straight Pool High Run event and they start with 14 balls racked in place, with the gap at the top where the 15th ball would be. The 15th ball and the cue ball are "in hand" but are not allowed to be closer than one ball's width from the stack. Pocket this loose ball, get the cue ball into the stack and start running balls. Good luck with it! Best wishes thecardman www.scottish9ball.com The Cardman's Blog Heck, I'm even on MySpace![ This message was edited by: thecardman on 2007-05-29 15:38 ]
