Yeah he had a terrible cue action - I still copy it to this day. Lots of follow through. But 'that' frame against Jimmy white in the semi finals all those years ago....Mmmmmm.

Its all ifs and buts with you Dynamite. If the tournaments were played like this Reyes would have won this and that etc. We need to look at what he has actually won which i know is a lot. The fact that youve played reyes does not make your point any more valid than mine or anyone elses, fact. Ive played Higgins, Hendry and Parrott but my opinions dont automatically override anyone who hasnt played these players. Ive had experience of playing "top players" too you see . I know world championships arent everything but for someone so "dominant" in the game i thought Reyes would have won more than 1 world title in the biggest american pool discipline. I know you dont have to have won world titles to be considered a legend of the game. The three major tournments in american pool are probably the world 9 ball, world 8 ball and the US Open. Reyes has won 1 world 9 ball, 4 world 8 ball and 1 Us Open. The three major snooker tittles are the world, uk champs and the masters. Hendry has won 7 worlds, 6 uk champs and 6 masters. We are never going to be able to agree so we should just agree to disagree. Ive made points, youve made yours. This is just my semi-professional opinion . Reyes has won 1 world 9 ball, 4 world 8 ball and 1 Us Open... You should not forget the Derby City Classic in amongst that lot. He's won the One Pocket division every year he has entered it - including the last 4 IN A ROW! Remember those are against fields that this year topped some 3-400! He's also won the "Master Of The Table" title - aka "World All-Around Champion" - on 4 occasions - 1999, 2004, 2005 and 2007 (he missed out in 2006 by a matter of a few points!). And yes, I am biased towards Reyes as the greatest all-round player. I don't see how Hendry could be regarded as the greatest all-round player. Snooker yes, definately and without a shadow of a doubt. But all-round? No. How many of you remember the Fiat Snooker-Pool Challenge matches that Steve Mizerak played against a few different snooker players at the end of the '80s? OK, hands down. How many of you remember the last one that was held in Essex in something like 1990 in which Mizerak teamed up with Ewa Mataya (as she was known then) while a certain Stephen Hendry teamed up with one Allison Fisher? Remember the result of the pool disciplines? Hendry was beaten quite comfortably by Mizerak while Fisher shocked Mataya. Maybe we should be adding Allison Fisher's name to this list! Now, with all this chatter on this forum - and many other forums before now - this brings about one small thing. The only way that we'd really be able to find out who the greatest all-round Billiard sports player is would be by holding a tournament to determine who that is. The question is, what would the format be? What disciplines would be played? We could argue for and against English Billiards, UK 8-Ball, Russian Pyramid, etc, but the main ones that would have to be in there would be Snooker, Carom and an American Pool discipline - possibly 10 Ball as the luck element isn't as great (or should that be apparent?) as it is in 9 Ball. Those 3 are the most popular cuesports worldwide and I think that they could make for an exciting event. That's my cuesport-anorak/geek opinion! What is the actual quetsion for this thread?
Is it the greatest all round cuesportsman? Is it the best cueist? Is it the most successful cuesportsman?
Emesy, be more specific on the question of the thread. Let us know what factors to be used to determine the best cuesportsman.

cusack_147, i can't quite believe you have let this thread drag on for 10 pages before posing me this question however, as the creature of the thread i am obliged to answer to the best of my ability. the greatest cuesportsman of our time is simply the person who within the last 80 years(give or take a decade) has possessed, nurtured and most importantly converted either their own natural ability, willingness to succeed(or both) into playing either one particular or several cue sports to an overall higher standard and achieving greater heights than any other breathing specimen in our generation.

my 2 cents imo if hendry had dedicated himself to playing other cuesports with his talent and determination could well have dominated the cue sports world but he like other snooker players hasnt
the only snooker players that have successfully competed are led by steve davis who has played american pool with realtive success.
so from the snooker world imo steve davis must be nominated for the final list and mark selby edges quentin hann due to his snooker world champs showing and winning the world 8 ball champs (english pool)
and from the world of english pool due to his past acheivments the most successfull player to play other cue sports must be darren appleton due to his euro tour success ipt , usa open ect
dont know much about 3 cushion
and from the different disciplines of american pool i would nominate efren reyes simlpy because his fellow proffesional peers regard him as the greatest they have seen

Ok, this has gone on long enough i think.......we still are no nearer to naming the top 3 players. Why dont we do this: Everyone who is interested in this thread, post your top 3 players in order from frist to third....so your best player at the top. 3 points go to each top pick 2 points go to each second pick 1 point gos to each third pick Then we add all the points up say, in one week or so.....i think the creator should make the deadline. This way, from the people who post on here we will then get a result of this. What does everyone think? Also dont forget that many players are in Austria this week so allow for them to get back. -----------------
