nice one! But seriously, most players could have done it with out the presure of a match situation etc etc. Ok i understand that there is still some knowledge and skill involved, but i believe it would be a mu, much tougher game if you were NOT guaranteed (a) a ball every time, and (b) good position one the 1ball nearly every time. And listen.....its not just bppppa!....far from it because they only realy copy what thier bigger brothers do (WPA, EPBF etc etc) For example, in last years World Championships the balls were tapped and look at the state of the break of the guy that won it!.....its not good for the viewing public! Part of the charm of 9ball is the crash and power of the break.....when i played in te Mosconi Cup, they even had a Break speed gun and it was great to watch. Which would be better to watch: On a totally un bias view..... Jeff Da Luna (Phil) hammering the break at 30mph and Sid Waddel carrying on about his Athletisism and physics etc. or, Ronato Alcano (Phil)pussying the break and just running out every time, with Sid Waddel not having too much to say about the break after a couple of breaks coz its just so menotinous! -----------------

absoloutly spot on MR PEACH.
the things that have been discussed on here need to be changed now, i dont care if its half-way thriugh the season, me personaly when i played in nottingham and players were using soft break it was a joke.
peachy baby is right players are getting away with results simply bcoz of the break(dont mean any disrespect)
one of the best things about the break in 9-ball is the unpredictability, and with the soft break there is'nt any
thats why 8-ball is so popular, you can sit in your chair when your apponent breaks and know there is a 50-50 chance of coming to the table
9-ball should be the same

excuse me if i've missed something really obvious.
But i missed most of last seaseon due to nearly losing an eye in an accident. Before this the tables wernt tapped. come back 11 months later they are. Why?. If your getting poopie racks cus your opponenant is trying to get cute, rack your own!. if they wont "stick" together just give em a wipe and change the order. Its not like we're using club balls!? When it changed to tapped tables was everyone consulted?

As i said earlier, tapped balls are good for speed ing the event up and avoiding delays where players are trying and trying to rack a good rack. It just needs a few subtle changes to get away from this silly "soft" break. Lets all have a good chin wag this weekend at Stretford hey?......players commitee and Ted included. ----------------- [ This message was edited by: dazzler on 2007-02-28 14:35 ]

Awesome comment!!! :o)- We're years behind the yanks in this argument. There’s definitely a move over there to 10 ball, with more and more comps turning up every year. All stemming from issues with the break… My 10c worth, I hate the soft break, but I'm a convert, cos it works!

I'd like to know what the real official rules are for 10 ball. I've heard these 3 statements:
1. same as 9 ball but with an extra ball and racked in a triangle.
2. as 1 but no 3 foul rule.
3. The rules are not the same as 9 ball and there are official rules available from the WPA.
I've not found the official rules and still don't know what the real answer is. If anyone does please advise. And no rumours or guess please... just people who know for sure.

No .1. It was purely an extension of 9 ball and a move to the triangular rack. As always you'll have local rules and variations!

I have the World Standardised Rule Book..... Only differences are: Opening Break: The starting player must either 1) make an open break (4 balls to a cushion), or 2) legally pocket an object ball. If failing to do so, the incoming player has choice of 1) cue ball in hand BEHIND the head string and object balls in position, or 2) having the balls re-rackedand shooting the opening break shot. Illegally potted balls: All spotted, no penalty. Object balls jumped off the table: All spotted. The stroke is a foul and the incoming player has ball in hand, except after the break shot. 3 foul rule exists also. Sounds like a plan to me guys! All this talk about 10 ball is a joke. Just as it was 18 months ago. We are trying to improve on 9 ball, are we not? 10 ball is 10 ball, 9ball is 9ball. By all means have 10 ball events but the point is, how do we improve 9BALL. Even if ALL the big organisations switched to 10 ball we would STILL have 9ball events, ALWAYS. ANOTHER game IS NOT a solution to any said game. If we switched to 10 ball this would not improve 9 ball. This is why we shot you down Jason, Bang bang. Hehe. This is how I see it anyway! Jon. -----------------

yeah i think jon is right, 10-ball is a great game in its own right, as is 9-ball, at the end of the day i dont think the bpppa is not gonna switch to 10-ball in the near future. just switch to the epbf rule about 3balls past the kitchen and a few of the problems will be cleared up why does a simple thing take so much working out? I agree with Jon.....and as the bpppa are a tour for all disciplins, they could add a 10ball event maybe? Just a thought. -----------------

good news for tomorrow...
I'm going to use the EPBF rule relating to the break... Just spoke to Ted and he agreed with me...
So... if you pot a ball of the break at least 2 balls need to go past the headstring.. If you pot 2 balls of the break at least 1 ball needs to pass the headstring... If you pot 3 balls of the break, I don't care about the rest of the balls... This excludes the cueball... Failing in doing so means a loss of turn.. Not a ball in hand..
this will be explained again tomorrow before the tournament starts.. But for any questions you can also ask me...
