Karl played brilliantly on Thursday and looked like he was going to win it right from the start to be fair. He's hung up his english pool cue for good and had also not botehred with teh big table game for around 6 months in favour of darts but we tempted him out on Thursday. This was his first knock for ages and he obviously felt very fresh!
Thanks for the comments Craig. A lot of people have come up to me and said how much they like the format. The intention is to keep everyone playing as long as possible and give even the beginners every possible chance of picking up some ranking points. It seems to be working really well.
Unfortunately one downside is that occassionally it does run on later than 11pm for the finalists, which is what happened in this case. I appreciate that makes it difficult for those that travel by train like yourself.
If there is anyone in the Yorkshire area who has not entered so far I hope you come along because you are missing out on one of Riley's best new clubs and a really fun tournament.

I haven't entered it yet but I plan on making my debut next week at event number 4. I'll have a struggle on my hands to win the end of season rankings but I'm gonna give it a darn good try I can only apologise about the problems you had. I've spoken to him and I actually think he regrets it now but unfortunately I suspect he's far to stubborn to admit it. The disagreement is more to do with internal politics within the company than you. I understand your stance but on this occassion I hope you forget it and still come down to the tournament this week. It would be really good to have you in the event.

Yes I'm on a roll at last after wiining in Leeds Wednesday and Barnsley Thursday. Never heard so much wingeing in all my life by the players in Barnsley. They complain about everything! But this is good cos it wouldn't be a proper pool tournament without some passion and complaining. What Shir failed to mention is that she was very unlucky to lose to former english pool pro Karl Milner having missed a 9 by a whisker and then in the next rack played a brilliant fine carom shot off the 8 onto the 9 only to see the cue ball scratch up the other side of the table. She went into the losers side where she won her next 3 matches beating Adam Beasley from Wakefield Triangle club to win the money. [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2006-12-01 12:23 ]

haha.. should have won against Karl... 1st frame, cleared everything except that 9 Riggers described... 2nd frame... carom on the 2-9 and cue ball went to the other side of the table touched the 3 and went scratched.. :'( But still happy to win against the other 3 in the loserside.. Especially against Adam... Good player.. Won against him last week but that was a best of 1, 8-ball... This week was 9-ball and best of 3.. (And I don't really like playing 9-ball..)

in the loserside.. in the groups we played race to 4... and we use handicaps.. so some people were playing a race to 5... and some to 3...

Tonight another weekly tournament! 8-ball this time.. Who's gonna win this time? Lee? Trying to win 2 weeks in a row? Nick Wollerton? Because he's leading the ranking.. (And he desperately wants to be mentioned here) Or me? Hahaha yeah right... I'll see some of you tonight... And we'll watch some Mosconi together... Come and support me while I'm crying over all the action I'm missing out on..

ok about what I said last week.. Lee did reach the final but lost to.... Yes.. MR NICK WOLLERTON!!! He did it...
And about me? Hahah did reach the winner side for the first time after winning all my group matches! But lost to Bobby in the quarters... ( And what did I get for reaching the quarters?... I got promoted... I'm not a complete noobie anymore so my 1 start had left me...)
This Thursday: 9 ball!!! No swearing allowed and fancy dressed wanted.. HAhaha
There's a TV/Film crew coming from 6 to 10.. Shooting promotion material for Rileys'.. Barnsley is 1 of the 4 clubs chosen to get some shots... According to the manager I'm supposed to wear a mini and thight everything... MAke-up and the whole ..... So if you wanna have a laugh at my expense? Or at the people that are gonna try not to swear (NOT).. Or me slapping them with my whip to calm them down?
See you Thursday!

Can't wait for this one. Anyone who's ever been in a club when Karl Milner's playing pool after his 14th pint will know how difficult it's gonna be to keep him from swearing while those cameras are there!
This has been a really good tournament so far, with an average of 18 runners per week and lately over 20, showing that people are obviously enjoying the competition. We've tweaked the format and handicapping system as we've gone along and had some really good feedback. Thanks to everyone for their support and for Shir for helping to run the event.

1st one in 2007 in Riley's Barnsley... 8-ball to start the year...
Just to remind some of the people.. There will not be a tournament on the 18th of January because we'll both be in Norway that week...
