just feel that it makes it a much tougher game to play, can still jump just have to use full length cue???? as far as im concerned i offered a serious challenge and people dont see it as such, one person told me it takes five mins to learn how to jump, just feel it would be more of a challenge to jump with full length cue, i play english pool, not american pool, if phil can get back to me with an agreement asap then i can start to practice this game and prepare myself properly!!!

That was a good move you've just told your opposition that you can't jump
That's the whole point of 9ball and I could not see Phil agreeing to that.
no jump cues!! do u want 2 shots carry aswell?
The Mole ..... having a laugh
didnt appleton and donlon play to those rules.whats wrong with no jump cues if your new to the game, makes sense really.
back on topic
spoke to ben and steve tonight and no chance of him playin phil till february so game is not going to happen, steve did tell me put though that ben would play riggers for 500 a man
english 8 ball 500 a man american 9 ball 500 a man
told me to post this so dont shoot the messenger riggers
And when does he want to play this? Next July?
I think I'll offer a challenge to Dynamite, race to 30 for £10K a man, to be played in 2015. Then when it gets nearer the time if my game hasn't stepped up 6 gears I'll change my mind
Of course I'll play Ben £500 race to 21 minimum each of those games any time he wants.
just passing on the msg steve gave me last night, nothing to do with me just would be an interesting game.temprements all over the place if it happens,no cue snapping either

That's exactly what I was trying to say Jonathan! I remember when I first started playing thediamond showed me how to jump and within no time at all I was able to do pretty well whereas it took many many hours practice with one of our best players to improve my kicking skills.
I agree with you Si about the rules but Jonathan has a point really... where Michael thinks he's gaining an advantage he's actually playing right into Phil's hands. Tommy did the same against Daz in some respects with the rules he imposed for their match.

Dave....yes, seen Efren jump, rare sight agreed....I have a photo of him jumping also. Striker....shut your pie hole and buy a jump cue [ This message was edited by: thediamond on 2007-10-18 13:45 ]

There is an art to Jumping, fact. Any Monkey can jump - but there are not many Monkeys that are confident of jumping with sidespin, screw back to pot or play safe! and get the result they are looking for....
i witness this most days when i play Phil Morgan - He is excellent, and fair play to him as he practices the shots - and i can see the benefit. it makes me have to play better safety shots to not leave easier jumps
As Diamond says - its part of the game, If i have a better tip than you then maybe i should use the butt of my cue to play too?... lol
I know, why not do something crazy like play a 9 ball money match with, yes, you guessed it, 9 ball rules - WOW - that would be great....
or a 9 ball match with snooker rules - maybe have to pot the black after every number and respot the black each time.......
or put little metal hoops on the balls and see who can fish the 9 ball off the table from 150 yards??
or how bout sticking a bunker down the far end of the table and having to use a 9 iron to pot the 9??
or how bout rolling a dice when you get to the 9 ball to decide which pocket it has to go down?
or how bout using putting the 9 ball on a Spoon when you get to it and having to run round the club with your trousers down, doing 2 laps without dropping the ball in 45 seconds to win the match!
Ossie........ Lets just play 9 ball..... ...... Get the money on the light, and get on with it.

Rhetoric aside - this is about making a game.
Both parties need to think what is and isn't to their advantage, negotiate, and agree upon a game and the rules for it. That's what makes this different from tournament play. Isn't part of the skill in matching up making the right game with your opponent, which implicitly requires assessing strengths and weaknesses?

So he'll be playing a money match against me - only 5'ers though! Cheeky **** asked for a start due to his lack of practice. Can't wait! To be fair he was right to ask though 'cos I'm going to give him the biggest kicking he ever got on a table. Really looking forward to this one! Hello, The way i look at this money match is..... Play World 9 ball rules this saves any arguements or disagreements on the day!! If jumping takes 5 mins to practice then you have 6 weeks which is long enough i say. I will play with World Standard rules for £1000 at Barnsley in December!! It beats me why a player like Ben wants to play riggers in Dec, when he wants 3 years practice to play me? :-s Thanks Phil ----------------- UK's Youngest [ This message was edited by: the_locomotive on 2007-10-18 15:03 ]

Barron - in all honesty - jump shots are not difficult to learn. Also you might need to do a jump shot about once every 5 games if even that. So in theory in a poss 59 game match you might do 10 jump shots. And playing against Locomotive who likes to smash the break and leave a good open table to clear it will be even less.
Good luck to you both!
