Nice posts Roy, couldn't agree more. I wrote to Gre over the proposed ban for players who play in other tournaments and miss a Euro Tour event.
IMO the Euro Tour is superbly run and its clear great efforts have been made to get it where it is today.
However I think the ranking system lacks VALUE for the players. Lets not be ashamed to say this is the toughest tour in the world and the top 32 players have earned their ranking the hard way. But what does it get them, a spot in one tournament! In last years WPC a loss in the first match could have been the end of that players tournament! Is this good value?
I may be wrong but the EuroTour ranking system is under utilized, I don't think its even used to select players for the EUROPEAN Championships!!! :o
IMO the EPBF (and to a less extent the WPA) who have created this great product should be pushing it and selling it to the major events in pool. Surely tournaments such as the World Cup of Pool, Masters, Champion of Champions, etc etc should be invited European players based on the EuroTour ranking system? If this was the case I'm sure more players would play on it, the EPBF would be adding value to their own tour so it would be in everyones interest.
I've been in Jonni's position before living abroad and if you have little chance of getting invited to represent your own country if you use the national ranking system for invites.
If the EuroTour ranking system was used more I'm sure Darren, Karl, Raj etc would play all the events. As it stands the rewards for making the top 32 don't match the investment required.
Just my thoughts

And we thought we had problems with the BPPPA rankings! If the EuroTour rankings are not worth much what chance have we got!

hi, thanks for a quick reply. i know ernesto dominguez and the other two but i think dominguez is much better player overall between the three.i think the need to win more matches in international pool scene or maybe crushed / join and demolished the american pool scene and presto!! they will be known in the world of pool and there world ranking if there is any will increased tremendously.also they need to beat top players 7 out of ten in tournament matches im sure they are capable.thanks!

I've received a communication from Luke Riches about this subject and I'm reprinting it here, with his permission. The message is as follows... The EPBF rankings do, in fact play a major role in selection for Matchroom Sport events. For the World Pool Championship the top 28 players automatically get in. For the World Cup of Pool we took the top two ranked nationals of the following countries to make up the teams - Austria, Croatia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Holland A, Italy, Poland, Spain, Switzerland. With the World Pool Masters we take the top four players on the ET rankings at the given cut-off date and for the Mosconi Cup we take the number one ranked player at an agreed cut-off date. The case of Jonni Fulcher is a bit of an anomaly in that he was always listed as representing Switzerland and as such was part of their team for the World Cup. We subsequently found out he wasn't Swiss which disqualified him from representing Switzerland under IOC regulations by which we are bound by our WPA sanction agreement. He would have been eligible to play for England but by that stage Messrs Peach and Majid had already signed contracts to play in the event. If he has the same ranking this time next year then he would of course be selected for the English team. I hope this clears things up. Luke.

Marcus, for one, might disagree with you. hi, i thought marcus is from sweden. did you know that he married a filipina and own some pool clubs in the philippines and do plays a lot of pool there with some unknown players yet. You are quite right, Marcus Chamat is from Sweden. Sweden is part of Scandinavia. (Scandinavia is a historical and geographical region centered on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe which includes the three kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden.) He is married to a beautiful Filipina and they have one son. I didn't know that he owned any pool clubs in the Philippines but he certainly owns one in Sweden [ This message was edited by: malaguista on 2007-08-15 14:19 ]

Luke. So Scandinavia is suddenly represented by Denmark? Guess not, it was only a typeerror If they had used the eurotour-ranking for ALL european teams, which would be fair, it would be these countries: (Atleast more fair than now, and really really fair if all nations knew it a year ago.) Russia Great Britain Holland Italy Germany Switzerland Malta Spain Austria Poland France Chezk Republic Croatia Turkey Belgium Finland "Waitinglist" Denmark Serbia Btw: Mosconicup has always been top 2, hasn't? ----------------- The bangers consider me a pro - The pros consider me a banger roydfish.blogspot.com
