You guys are great. What a laugh reading this thread.

The funniest thing is that i don't think your opinions are a mile away from each other.

At the end of the day everybody should try a low deflection shaft at some point so that they know if it is for them or not. (pred, ob1 who cares)

I dare bet every single pro player has hit with a low deflection shaft at some point. The ones who don't use one simply didn't like it, as lets face it they aren't for everyone.

I think that glossopscratcher should try one version of a low deflection shaft, and i'd say a 314, as unless he finds out if its right for him, he'll just never know if his game could be better. Go out and buy something like a predator sneaky pete and if you don't like it sell it and try something else.

I think all you guys have given good input and all your thoughts have made great reading, so thanks.

There's nothing like a good healthy heated debate..lol

Wahay, that's the spirit Stroker :-D lol

I agree about the lack of availability of the other branded shafts, etc, but perhaps gs can travel to one of the pro tournaments and see if Si could let him hit a few balls with a few various cues/shafts to see what gs would like, and also maybe BigDave could have some OB-1 Shafts, etc? :)

please define a sneakey pete for us because in my opinion it is something of high quality pretending to be less so, ie looks like a house cue, ie without branding ect

a sneaky pete is a simple bar cue style jointed in the middle. You will find most cuemakers still make them. Its just the most simple cue around.

You will pick up a predator sneaky 2nd hand for under a 100 quid. They will generally have a 314 shaft and at least its a decent quality butt and will play well.

ob-1 shafts just make me think of star wars. they're great shafts but i just expect them to glow blue or red and make weird swooshing noises when you play a shot.

use the force and all that.

LMAO, no comment , in saying that, I reckon that a shaft with a maple ferrule is certainly worth taking a loot at, but I imagine that it would give a more softer and somewhat smoother hit :)

I have used a house cue before in the club where I used to work, the ferrule has busted clean off and the top of the cue had been sanded flat and a tip was clued onto the cue stick without a ferrule and funnily enough, that house cue had a really nice hit to it, it was certainll alot better, than the rest of the walking sticks that were in the place.

Another thing that may be worth trying is to customize a cue, to have a slimmer taper, new ferrule and top quality cue tip like a Sniper, Moori, Kamui, etc, this may be another option and would also work out alot less expensive :)
