I live in West London, so I'd like to try out for the Middlesex team (strong competition I suspect)... although I'm originally from West Yorkshire, so if they're short of players... It's true what you say about numbers, but when I look at the popularity of darts and the TV coverage it gets I think there is a lot of potential to grow the game of American 9-ball in the UK to somewhere near the same level. I think the most difficult thing is how its positioned in the marketplace, so it projects the right perception and attracts the right audience. Every time I look at the BPPPA website I nearly chunder and lose count of the number of accessibility guidelines it breaches, to the extent that I didn't realise it was the professional body for the UK game, so lets try and do something with a bit of quality! I just think that you won't be taken seriously unless you take a serious approach to your image, so I'm happy to help with this area (I've got a strong background in branding, web, marketing and business strategy). If you get a good strategy, good branding and good organisation you have something very attractive for sponsors, like the betting shops (888.com / Blue Sq / Ladbrokes etc).

The same was said to most great innovators, but what made them great was that they did it anyway... On a serious note, it looks like you have a really good set-up up there. Nice use of the http://www.leaguerepublic.com site builder too, although some player profiles (with photos) would be nice to give it a bit of personality, and maybe some player blogs too... just a suggestion...

Really up for this. I know Hertfordshire would have a good showing. St Albans have got at least 16 decent regular players. Not quite Imran and Dazzler league but decent.

Riggers... If they're willing to embrace a makeover I'd be happy to help out, in the name of improving the perception of the game in the UK. There's so much one could do... I'm overflowing with ideas...

Who said Dazzler was good enough to get in the Lancs team anyway... To be totally honest, i have spoke with Millsy more than once about this....its one of the ways to make US pool more familiar with the everyday punter. As for me getting in the Lancs squad......i would have to up my game a little to have a chance! lol But on a serious note, if this gets off the ground, it would be to all players benifit to support it as much as poss.....event the top players, they might think "well theres not enough money in it for me to get involved" but we need to look more at the big picture. Top players playing would help promote the system.....and at the end of the day this is a base for producing more players, and the more players there are, the more chance we have of making something of this great game here in the UK! -----------------

How does it all work.............can anyone just enter a "county" team? Surely the existing county pool associations should be the only ones in authority able to do so?

@ Lancaster_Bomber who would you put in the sussex team???? Dont think we'd have a cats chance in portslade of putting a strong team together. Biggest problem is half the people who could be put in the team just wouldn't be bothered.

lol, darn you dave! you spotted the flaw in my statement!!! I didn't say we'd have the strongest team but having a county team might make some of the players take a bit of pride in the sport and get them to think more about learning the game rather than just bashing balls about and fluking them all the time!! Right everyone we almost ready to go, I need Real names, and your 1st choice county team and also a second county team in case your first choice does not have enough players, I also need players to put there names forward as manager (managers can also be non players) Players only can also put there names forward as captain and will captain teams chosen by managers, it may be a slow start but who knows, the county teams in UK 8-ball helps a great deal to raise the game and we can do this to help the future of the game here, I NEED REAL NAMES not usernames and weather you are interested in Manager or captains position, when I start to get names in then the number of players in teams can be decided, it is no use saying 7 in a team etc if the number of players is not there but we hope for a minimum of 5/6 my favorite is 6 in a team with two matches on at the same time on tables next to each other, games could be 10-ball, 8-ball, 9-ball and straight pool. each county would have to have two sets of match balls PRO Tv balls, due to the schedules in the pool game teams will be in groups of 4 played at the one venue in one day with the top two going through to the area final, one for the north and one for the south again the top two in each go through to English county finals (last 4) then from there the winning team will compete in a UK final 4 English winner, Irish winner, Welsh and Scottish winners... Email me at markmills@markmills.net closing date for county teams to be entered is August 31 2007 formats and numbers will be decided on or before July 31st.
