I wrote to Gre and he told me that you could play a Euro Tour and the money, but you will not get the ranking points unless you have membership with BPPPA.

That is the only way you could qualify for automatic qualification to the World Championship or other tournaments that are dependent on ranking points.

i am not a member of the bpppppppppppa, yet have received my ranking points for the eurotours that i have played in.

I find this hard to understand, most countries have an official member but the Eurotour is open to everyone.
With regard to ranking points, everyone who plays in a Eurotour receives those points.
The "official" member for Spain only has a handful of players and most of those who play in the Eurotour are not members of tis organisation.
Alcaide is very definitely not a member but he still gets his ranking points and still qualifies for World Championships each year.

So this more or less confirms what i said earlier about the UK been the only nation in this situation..very interesting!......thanks for that Peter.

I am writing this email to enquire about the Euro Tour and in particular the Poolcomps.com - German Open in Sindelfingen.

What I would like to find out is whether you have to be affiliated with a particular pool tour such as the BPPPA or WPA in

order to participate in any “Open” and/or any Euro Tour tournaments.

In principle it is not necessary to join but it is usefull to do. In the beginning it will be no problem but when you qualify over the Euro Tour ranking for an event we will always ask the national member of EPBF if they agree with the nomination of you. Not being a member is a reason to block the nomination. It is good to be a member at the national body in England.

His comments had brackets which the word pad would not recognise whilst submitting and I did not check the preview before submitting hence many copies of the same reply.

So from that then, basically it seems as if you DONT have to be a member of bpppa in order to play Eurotour, and then onto say, Matchroom events if you do well etc etc. But the bpppa have the option to object to you taking part in these events if your not a member.

So why do we think they might object to a pool player doing what he/she has earnt the right to do by gaining enough ranking points on the Eurotour?

It should be made clear that only members of the affiliated National Federation are eligible to play in the European Championships although in some cases that would be difficult as has already been said in these fora, there could be a problem with finance and no monetary reward.
If ever the Spanish Federation obtains membership of the EPBF, they would very definitely support their players as they do in any major tournaments.
For example, two Spanish players will be going to Manila in November with all expenses paid by the Federation.
Now there's food for thought UK!!!!!
As well as this, 2 Spanish players attend each Eurotour with all expenses paid, (next year it will be three)

What does it cost to become a member of the RFEB (Royal Spanish Federation of Billiards) I hear you ask??

30 euros per year

The more I hear about the Spanish federation, the more I envy the members. Everything you see organised in Spain is done with professionalism. The UK can only aspire to emulate them and the other national bodies that SUPPORT their players as opposed to bleeding them dry for monetary gain (how the situation currently seems to be in the UK).

I personally gave up on playing on playing the BPPPA this season after only the first event as I cannot justify the expenditure plus the 580 mile round trip on the back of a minimum 40 hour week of work. It not only puts a ridiculous amount of pressure on you to cover your costs but the fatigue factor has a massively detrimental effect on your ability to play and concentrate.

This will be the only time I will contribute to this thread or any associated with it. I don't like the way Lee Rigby has been abused on such a personal level when all he wants is for the BPPPA is to be moved on in a professional manner and to actually support its members. He does however want to do things without the BPPPA folding. This is possibly the best way to do things as the EPBF/WPA affiliation is already in place and it would take a massive amount of work to set up a new federation and infrastructure. I have spoken to him personally with regard to the situation and believe me he is not a BPPPA "puppet"! He is as unhappy about the current situation as the rest of us.

If anyone diagrees with my comments feel free to tell me to my face next time you see me at an event. Don't bother hiding behind a screen name on an internet forum. It's too easy to attack someone personally with anonimity. You just need to grow a spine next.

I have to say that im not too sure about the annonimous thing.......but at the end of the day there are no rules about this, and people have the choice to either show themselves or not.

Riggers is defo NOT a bppa bunny!.....and if anyone thinks that he is, then they need to back up!
He is just trying to get to the bottom of this like all of us. What he is saying is that we need to try and mend it all with the bpppa, but to be honest Riggers, i, along with many more feel that to make a real success of this we need a FULL revamp....and then once we have acheived this we need all the rules and regs for the Board/player council/tour/events/players/voting/books/qualifyers/Eurotour/rankings etc etc in place clearly for all members to see.....not all behind closed doors like it is now. I feel that this will be the only way forward.

We could learn a lot from Peter/Spanish tour.....its all about insentives for all players!
