If you want to shoot balls that easy go play in your local club
Hello, The reason I quoted this line is to ask anyone who's still reading this a question. Are your club tables really that forgiving? The SAMs I play on just don't allow anything in if it hits the rail first no matter how softly you play the shot. Having said that it might well be that the rails need changing or something rather than the size of the pockets! The clubs here don't exactly look after their equipment! Anyway, back to the original point, the funny thing as Jerry Forsyth said this year was that a lot of the players who originally wanted the switch to tighter pockets have changed their minds now! They do definitely change the game (whether that's a good or bad thing is another matter though). Best example I can think of offhand would be that WPL match from 2003 (I think) where Efren makes a ridiculous table length sheer cut shot against Tony Drago. I don't think he'd even try that on the tighter tables. That match is an absolute classic for anyone who hasn't seen it BTW! Thanks, Chris.

You're right about the tables Chrstc, there's alot of clubs, especially a few notorious companies, that don't know that a table is meant to be clean and well kept, instead of being like a map of Europe with beer spills, etc lol On the Question of the pockets of the pockets at the WPC, IF they were about 4" - 4. 1/4", then yes, they are tough pockets and they will be more restrictive in terms of your freedom of shots, but if you're playing on 4.1/2" pockets, then the shot in Q is definitely playable at heavy pace and smoke I would like to see the WPA have a meeting to discuss the pocket size on tables and have it that there be only 1 standard pocket width and shelf depth for pool tables because 5" is too generous and 4" is too much like a snooker table. So as far as I see it, a 4 1/2" pocket seems about perfect, that way there is a single standard pocket size that everyone can agree on, that way everyone has the same pocket width to shoot width Willie

Anytime buddy , I also have been in a club before, where the manager and owner, were both thick as mash and didn't have the brains or balls to bother to maintain the tables properly, by recovering them regularly and getting decent cloth, instead of that cheap nylon cloth, that is only useful for wiping your nose with, instead of good, decent simmonis 860 And yes I have been to a few of the notorious clubs before, that are brutal; at best lol, there's one of which, over here and you walk into the place and you think..."oh my GOD!!!... They actually play a tournament in here???" lol, you'll have a table, where they seemed to have cut the legs off, pillars that are at every darn corner of the table and stools that you can't move because they're bolted to the floor, as well as sticking up your fool, when taking a shot from that area of the table lol, don't get me wrong, it's a nice enough room, but they definitely could've taken alot more time to do it a better way, than they did But I'm very glad that there's 1 club, that is setting the standard for all of the other pool rooms here, but it will take quite some time before the other rooms catch on, but they will, eventually with a bit of luck lol Anyways, I think that a 4 1/2" pocket standard would be so much better in the long run for both the players and the game itself Willie [ This message was edited by: TheWizard on 2006-11-23 02:11 ]
