So let me get this straight, you glue the bottom carpet in, get the cordless drill polish disc thing, place it on top and spin the plant pot for 20-30 seconds?? or spin the disc?

I think when you start the drill and apply a bit of pressure from the spinning pad to the top of the balls in the bucket, the balls spin around, rubbing gently against the soft material on the side of the bucket and on the drill's pad. Put a drop of this stuff on each ball and you're cooking on gas! I've listed it in The Pro Shop - here - it'll be priced soon! [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2007-10-31 09:29 ]

Ahhhh, I know what The_Mole is talking about because I also saw this at AZB and I've seen loads of different versions of this... So I know where you're getting stuck. In Matthew's picture there are three elements, the bucket, the balls, and the spinning disk.... It's the spinning buffing wheel/disk from a cordless drill, so it has a drill bit attachment on the back. [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2007-10-31 09:46 ]

ahh, i get it, so basically you attach the disc to the drill and then make the disc pad thing spin by using the drill, moving the balls around in the pot and cleaning them at the same time

Yep, it's the same way that the professional ball cleaning machines work, but upside down (the spinning disc is underneath the balls in the machine (and instead of carpet, they have rubber knobs/nodules on the walls of the bucket and a proper buffing material on the spinning pad).
I'll see about getting a price on one for The Pro Shop.

I can't see The_Mole's picture from work but from what I remember there was no material on the sides of the pot. Is this correct?
What material should go on the sides of the pot and what diameter should the bottom of the pot be?

i've just had a look at polishing pads and you can pick up a lambswool pad and a backing pad (to attach to the drill) for about £5 from ebay. looking at it most of them are 125mm so im guessing a pot at about 130mm (13cm's) should be ok, allthough i'm going to check this out later

Here's the thread on AZ. They seem to have come up with a neat design that will hold all 16 balls.

like the look of them, seem like a fair bit of hassel compared to Moles one though. Admitidly if you have to clean alot of sets (like you will have to soon enough Riggers) then maybe this would be a nice idea. I might build moles and then try to build the bigger one, if it goes successfully maybe i'll donate one to the GB9BT . Saying that i'll have to get my money together to enter that first lol

Hmmmm.... never though of that It's a good job we have a rotation policy for duties on the Committee of GB9BT. Or maybe we give all the players a cloth and create a production line to pass the 16 sets of balls through just before the tournament starts. That would work!

What material should go on the sides of the pot and what diameter should the bottom of the pot be? I did put the carpet 2 inches up the side of the pot all the way round. It needed to be high enough to touch the outer edge of the ball but low enough not to hinder the spinning disk. Also one little point you don't need to spin them at a mental speed. When the balls start to wobble I know I'm going too fast I think if you only have your own set to clean, doing it 3 at a time once every couple of weeks is fine but if like riggers you have 10 or 15 full sets that would be a killer and you would need to keep recharging the cordless drill and in total I think it would take him a week If anyone does make their own cleaner please post pictures and let me know any improvements you made. I am starting to think about making an updated model......Turbo Charged! ----------------- www.themole.me

I think I'm going to have a go at building one of these cleaners. i'm going to try the 2 bucket, upside down buffer model with velcro'd detachable side and plate carpeting. I might add the 15 ball divider system (aka the Professional Diamond machine) in phase 2 of the project. One thing I can't quite work out from all those posts in AZ is whether they advocate using the system with or without ball cleaner. A guy called Joe was suggesting it made the carpet wet and unable to shine up the balls before he dried it out. [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-10-31 15:38 ]

yea i read that, further on some guy agreed that it does make it wet but it doesnt hinder the cleanness, you'd just have to change the carpet every now and again, i'm definatly going to make the plant pot model. I'll take some time to plan a larger scale one once i have some time and some money to do it.

Yes - the carpet does get a little wet.
Use as little polish as you can, after a few goes you will know how much.
Remember to wipe the balls with a clean cloth before you put them away.
