I used a Meucci Gambler 2 for about 5 years or moe and it was a really good cue, but it sounds like to me that you have been pretty unlucky with the Black Dot shafts, but it is possible that the shafts could've been damaged during shipping, but I must admit, that would be unlikely, but not completely unlikely On the subject of putting a 314 predator shaft on it, all this trash about there being no deflection is just BS because no matter how the shaft is made or if you have a Moori or a Tringle or Le Pro tip on it, it don't matter, you're always gonna get some amount of Squirt (Deflection) from the snowball, also it's not so much a case of just how much flex in in the shaft by the amount of spinology you get, it also depends on exactly how good or accurate your stroke is and cue power, etc I will say though that the Meucci ferrule is a wee bit on the long side, but I preffer a pool cue that was now simply because I have gotten used to it, but I think that the rattling sound might not have been the ferrule, it might have been the cue tip because when I got the gambler 2, I played for about an hour and then the cue tip had come off, because it hadn't been placed on securely enough, but that was no big deal, it was just a matter of sanding the base of the tip and regluing the tip back on again , but a loose cue tip will give the same clinking noise I can agree though that every player has their own prefferences to what they like and so, some preffer a 314 shaft, others preffer the original shaft that the cue stick came with , it's a case of different strokes for different folks Take care everyone and I look forward to hearing what you guys think Willie [ This message was edited by: TheWizard on 2006-03-23 02:53 ]

"The Man" I find it very interesting that you describe the Predator shafts as having a soft hit, most people describe the pred as stiff hit. The Meucci with it's whippy feel is generally regarded as a softer feel and therefore a soft hit. I agree that you can get lot of side with both the Meucci and Predator shafts as with many of these new technology shafts. I myself play with a Meucci Black Dot shaft and I love it. It is a soft hit and does enable you to apply a great deal of side, I did not get on with the much stiffer Predator shafts. I have article by Bob Meucci regarding the Black Dot shaft and it is worth a read: The Black Dot Bullseye Difference

Don't forget that my z-shaft is playing on my 97-12 so it's a plastic on plastic joint.
Hence the reason of the softer hit/feel
I played a few strokes with a P2 and a 314 shaft the other day and on the long straight draw shot rather than a clicky sound that i used to get with the meucci/black dot shaft i got a big twang coming from the joint of the P2.
Must be due to the stiffer joint i guess, but it's still not for me and that sound would just bug me after a while.

The predators are just not as good as Meucci, that's how I feel and I have played for 20 years. It's like I said about the clicking sound, the cue tip probably isn't secured on to the ferrule, that is what would give you the clicking sound. Take care everyone Willie P.S. I would like to inform you all that I won the Club 9 Tournament on Saturday night , it was a brilliant day though and I had a little bit of fortune, but I had an absolutely brilliant match with Gary Johnson in the finals and I want to congradulate Gary because it was his first final in this event , but most of all I wanna congradulate Sam, Joe Jnr & Joe Snr for holding yet another top quality pool tournament

I do know that Bob Meucci hat created the Black Dot shaft because he found a flaw in the Red Dot shaft. I have used a predator Z shaft and a Black Dot Shaft and I will pick the Black Dot every time , but there is also 1 thing that you also need to consider with which shaft you use, you need to think about the joint itself because whether it's a peonolic, wood - wood or a Stanless Steel joint, those will all give different hits and feels to each other and so you need to consider all these other factors when selecting which shaft you use Take care everyone Willie

Yes that's true poolshark , I started on a 6ft table playing UK 8 ball and snooker, and then when I was 9? y.o., I saw the World Team 9 ball championships on Sky TV, it was just out that year I think and I remembered watching Jimmy Rempe, Earl Strickland, Buddy Hall, Nick Varner, Vivienne Vilarreal and sme of the other foreign stars like Fransisco Bustamante and Efren Reyes playing for Team Phillipines and they were playing 9 ball in this event , I then contacted a billiard company here about requesting a set of rules for 9 ball as I wasn't quite in full understanding of how it was played, but I loved it cos it was fast paced and it is a game that you can be very creative in so, I got a set of rules for 9 bal and I already hat a set of solid/stripe pool balls, so I started playing 9 ball on my 6ft table and on english bar boxes untill there was a pool hall in Belfast called Frames, that had 6 Proline Winchesters, then I started going there to play and then eventually to other rooms , but in tournaments and leagues I was playing 8 ball because 9 ball hadn't started over here yet , but yes I started playing cue sports when I was 5 and the only thing that inspired me to keep playing was reading about the late and legendary, Willie Mosconi I hope that this answers your Q , but I don't think that the guys would want to hear my life story lol Take care everyone Willie I forgot to mention that All that I can do on a pool table is completely and totaly self taught and I have become a good friend to a BCA Hall Of Famer, Jimmy Rempe, I first got into talking to him because I was gonna go to the expence of flying out to the USA to have Jimmy teach me a few things for a week or 2, but since I was unable to get it organised I have kept in contact with Jim and he's a really good and helpful guy [ This message was edited by: TheWizard on 2006-03-26 19:46 ]

Seconded as I commented in another recent thread. The build quality of recent Meuccis is APPALLING. Don't know exactly when they dropped their production standards bu they've been awful for a while now.

I'm from Mississippi, as is Meucci Cues, and I have my opinion(s) as to what happened to the quality of Meucci Cues.
When he started out making cues in the 70's, he was located in Memphis, TN. He did all/most of his own work and the quality was really good. Some of the Meucci Originals shoot as good or better than most cues that are for sale from any cuemaker.
Somewhere along the line, he moved into North Mississippi, invented the "Myth Destroyer Robot" and started hyping his red dot shaft. statistics, be d-mned. If I wanted to convince people that my products were, I believe that I could invent a method of testing that showed my products were better than any other, too.
My personal belief is that he left Memphis to escape urban sprawl. North Mississippi was just an extension of the Memphis/urban sprawl, so he moved to Sledge, MS. Big mistake...the available pool of workers in Sledge consisted of tractor drivers and farmhands. His quality took a nosedive at that point.
he tried to re-invent the cue shaft and in my opinion failed with his black-dot shaft. I bought one and have tried several others,,,,,,,they shoot like cr-ap compared to pre-dot and red-dot shafts. if anyone believes the "robot" tester and the black-dot shaft, I think they are buying into a lot self invented hype cooked up by a former qualiity cuemaker.

Hey! I am new to this forum but I have my own experience with Meucci and the Black Dot Bullseye Shaft. I recently purchased what I consider my dream cue from Meucci, the Meucci Gem-2. The ornamentation of the cue and the individuality that comes with owning it is great, its the most beautiful cue that I have ever seen! However... When it came and I fitted the Black Dot Bullseye that came free with it, I was upset with how the shaft felt. I read through the post from "The Man" and I second what he said about the feel of the cue being awful and I had that same click too. They sent out a second shaft and it was exactly the same, maybe a hair better. Now the Meucci Gem-2 is an expensive cue and I'm not looking to sell it, but I think I will be needing a new shaft that plays how I want it to. I'm not ordering anything before I try it after what happened with the MBDS but I know nowhere that I can try another shaft with my MG-2. Does anybody have any suggestions? The final thing was, does anybody know anywhere that can make me an Ash shaft to match my UK 8 Ball cue and fit to the MG-2? My UK 8 Ball cue is pretty damaged and I figured that there would be somewhere that can do this for me so I only need the 1 cue in future... Cheers
