weird how this o,sullivan bloke keeps being mentioned! does the best player have to have a proven track record: the most titles, highest breaks, most run outs etc? or is it a case of, if everyone played at their very best at the height of their career and health, who would win?

How nice that no-one even cares to mention Walter Lindrum.

I misread the question when I answered Ronnie! I was meaning best cueist of all time = Ronnie. Best cue sports player of all time for me would be between Hendry & Reyes with Reyes shading it because of his all round ability at multiple disciplines.

reyes as talent no one else as got ,he sees things nobody does,he plays shots no one can imagine, his the best pressure player, if pool was a sport as such he would be up there with the greatest sportsman ever woods, federer etc
strickland was one of the best and so talented heard some good stories about him from past
sadly these days his completley lost it but still got flashes of brilliance and very entertaining if not playing against him!
then you have the super talaneted bustamante and of course ronnie o

Jim Rempe has to be put in the same league as Efren for ability, Rempe however was not as dominant as Reyes, but had the ability to mix it up with the very best at nearly any cue sports. Schumacher Hendry Woods Federer Reyes Now thats great [ This message was edited by: HELLRAISER on 2007-06-09 14:16 ]

Just like to add weight to Cardman's suggestion of Mark Selby....2001 World 9 Ball Championship qualifier too.
Still, i don't think he comes close to Reyes in terms of the answer to 'the greatest ever'.

POOL: Reyes....coz he has won it all ... even in different era's!...incl 9,8,straight,bank,one pocket! SNOOKER: Hendry in the 90's coz of his dominance and Davis in the 80's for the same reason......Have to edge for Davis coz if it wasnt for him, snooker would not be where it is today! OVERALL: Reyes.....coz of the wide range of wins over a longer period than the snooker boys. And he can play snooker too! (watched him destroy Jimmy White for cash 10 years ago!....100 breaks galore!! what a player! -----------------

Efren Reyes (Pool - All Disciplines) Mike Massey (Artistic Pool) Walter Lindrum (English Billiards) Raymond Ceulemans (3 Cushion Billards) Joe Davis (Snooker) Best of all, though, is definitely Efren Reyes, by pure ability and all round accomplisments in pool Willie [ This message was edited by: TheWizard on 2007-06-10 12:32 ]

I thought that would get someone's attention lol Het Daz I believe that Joe Davis was a much better player, than many may realise, as reguards snooker, especially in the older days, when the balls and cloth were considerably heavier and slower, Although there weren't as many opponents around in his era, he still was the one, who set the standard for modern day greats, like Ray Reardon, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, and many others, and also he had such a golden touch in his stroke, if any of you get the chance to check out any archive footage of Joe Davis in action, then it is worth taking a look at Willie

Reyes over Hendry? Someone’s been smoking the funny stuff again I reckon…Hendry is without doubt the greatest player ever to pick up a cue. No one will dominate any cue sport like he did from the late 80s to mid/late 90s. You gave Hendry a sniff of a chance in his prime and he’d rattle in a frame winning break guaranteed. Unbelievably great in his day, hardly ever missed.
As for 9ball - not enough worldwide tournaments featuring all the top players to judge, plus a larger luck element involved. Comparing a great snooker player to a great 9ball is kinda like comparing a highly skilled technician to a highly efficient trolley pusher round Asda car park – more people can do it but its harder to reach the heights of your profession...

I think that's largly fair comment but Reyes is different and definately the special one!
