Hi,
I'm not sure what's going on at the moment so would like some clarity please.

Did the payment email get sent out to more than 96 players? I was under the impression that the first 32 (pro) and 64 (challenge) players to register would be sent the email and the payment due date.

Then after the deadline the rest of the applicants (along with those who hadn't paid) would be sent out the payment email and whoever paid first would get on the tour.

This is the only fair way I can see it working - first come first served. I'm not sure what people are talking about who are discussing how people should be selected. Or is this just for the reserve players??

How about putting a list up on the website of who's applied, who's paid, who's reserve, who's in etc etc.

the original idea was that they would get all the applications in, not just the first 96. They would then send out the payment request and the first 96 players to PAY would get in the tour. as they had many more than 96 applications they did not want everybody to have to pay at the same time, and if your bank, for instance, delayed the payment you would lose out.

What they decided was to have everybody pay to see how much the tour was oversubscribed, and then work out a way that either would include everybody who has paid, or have a fair way of selecting players.

Lee
Well done! Looks like you have done a irst class job. But are you not shooting yourself in the foot by not stcking to your FCFS policy?
Surely your first 96 should be the 96 on the Tour and this would send out a message to the players who missed out that they must get out of their complacency mode and act like professionals. You can be sure that anyone who should have been in will be trying to qualify next season. I wish you well on this one.

Thanks Doug.

Just to clarify, as Ads says it was never first come first served it was always going to be first pay first in but that was before we realised we would be hit with over 100 applications before we had the time to process them all and send payment details. So the effect was we were sending payment details to lots of people all at once. Some people were also trying to give me money before the payment invoices had even been sent and this was not really fair because they were only able to do it because they knew me in person.

So I decided to stop taking further applications at this point, give all these applicants an equal and fair chance to pay, then assess whether it's in all our interests to extend the size of the tour and/or work out a fair system for selecting the 96 players. I think that was the right thing to do in the circumstances and have no regrets, other than I wish I had a crystal ball and was able to predict there would be such massive interest.

As we've said it's a very nice problem for UK pool to have :)

it is indeed, and if you do get enough players to extend it then great, but if not then as i said earlier im sure the right thing will be done to choose.

Most people can appreciate the decision you the team has had to make on this, it was always going to be a bit edgy at the beginning of the tour, nothing runs smoothly from the off does it?

If all the applicants have paid (or at least 96) then surely that date isn't relevant anymore - who are we waiting for.

And if 96 people haven't paid then everyone who has paid up so far is in??

Right from the start we always said it will be your payment that secures your place not your application so we are not changing anything there. In making the decision as to whether we extend teh tour we have to involve our host clubs too and that takes time to negotiate. We'll try and resolve this in December but please be patient as we have other jobs too!

Riggers

m8 i don't envy your position one bit, think your in for lots more post and mails and calls and questions at the weekend yet.

But stick with it m8 your doing the right thing, i can see clearly the predicament your in. What else could you do having so many applicants so quickly. You just got to try and do whats best for the sport and thats prob please everyone but god knows how your going to do that.

Hopefully all will end well and we will have one of the best tours around.

Sure, I wasn't trying to rush anyone, just wanted things cleared up.

Everyone seems to be organising this as fairly as possible.

Unfortunately I see both sides of the coin.

On the one hand, you want to encourage as many as possible new players to enter the tour, to take advantage of recent good performances by expanding and you definately don't want to be turning them away. On the other, you want to have a quality tour, the best players need to be involved.

A solution is difficult, please try and avoid pulling names out of a hat!!

I really can't believe people are crying and moaning already!!! Give them a ******* chance.

You're making the decisions up for yourselves in your own heads! Who know's what's going to happen?? Nobody does yet.

So let it all happen, let the announcement's come, and then if you are still unhappy, complain.

But right now you lot have nothing to complain about.

I have sent Lee an email with some suitable suggestions that would please all.

It would require help from all to succeed which I don't think would be a problem nationwide.

In my opinion the people who have filled in an application to join and then received an invoice to pay before 3rd December, who have paid should be in.
It was made very clear quite early on from when the applications were first being taken that this tour was going to fill up quickly. If you do not pay within the specified date then as far as i can see it's tough.

Ever since this tour was announced i have been on this site and GB9BT everyday looking at how it has progressed and when the application were available to fill in i did this straight away and sent my payment.

I think that to please a lot of people the commitee should have a say so on who gets in the Pro division as this is the ultimate division with the likes of Peach, Appleton, Boyes, Drago, Gray, Uzzell etc. but as for the Challenge division i can't see how the commitee can choose between people who have played on the BPPPA and someone who has never played in a competition.

If the commitee are going to use the BPPPA members to choose who goes in i don't think this is a fair option.

It should be first come first pay in my opinion especially in the Challenge division.
