I thought id post a comment about the UK entrys in the WPC.
All the usual suspects are there, there is two people who have got spots that i wanted to mention.

(1).Andy Worthington, i was really pleased to see Andys name on the list andys rise up the rankings on both the BPPPA and Euro has been as good as any players he plays all over Europe and has had some great results.

Congratulations Andy Worthington a well deserved spot.

(2).Darren Appleton, darren is a legend in the 8Ball Game i dont know how much 9ball he had played before entering the BPPPA and Euro Events? but it looks like he has been playing it all his life i think darren is one of the finest Cueists in the UK if not Europe.
He is obviously very comfortable infront of the cameras and crowds as it proved on the IPT tour.

I will be lumping on Betfair at a price for the event and expect to be laying off most of the money at a descent profit at the latter stages of the event.

Okay, just hoping one of you can explain this to me. I've lost track on how the players are getting picked these days?!

Does the BPPPA have spots to give away? Was this even the case in the past if not now?

How many spots does the EuroTour have to give away?

Is it only the EuroTour who chooses who we send to the WPC now?

Im confused! Please Help!

The BPPPA dont give any spots away anymore, I think they used to be able to send 4 or 5 players which were based on the BPPPA rankings. The top 24 Euro-Tour players get into the event and that is how Kev Uzzell and Andy Worthington got in. Steve Davis was a wildcard and I presume Raj is in there cause he won the Masters.

Surely someone of Mark's (Gray) class and ability will be attending the qualifiers i put my money on him doing well in them and if not winning straight thru but possibly being in the top 3 on the reserve list via the points system they are incorporating should any of the top 128 drop out.

BPPPA's No1 as well surely it should carry some weight i.e. entry in World Champs etc

Be awesome if Ted can get something sorted for the top ranked players on the BPPPA tour. Our top players deserve it plus if it should happen then players will have that incentive to play the BPPPA rather than go else where.

Soz and apologise for going out of topic just annoyed our boys dont get any recognition for their performances and hardwork!!

There is no good reason why the BPPPA should have their own spots, no disrespect to them or to any other country's Federation.

As far as I know, the spots are allocated principally by the continental federations

AAPA All Africa Pool Association
APBU Asian Pocket Billiard Union
BCA Billiard Congress of America
CPB Confederation Panamerica of Billiards
EPBF European Pocket Billiard Federation
OPBA Oceania Pocket Billiard Association

and for this reason it is important to play in the Eurotour.

Obviously the Promoters and organisers have the use of various wildcards.

If the participants in the WPC were all those who were ranked number one in their particular countries, there wouldn't be a lot of space for many others.

The continental federations, members of the WPA represent 88 different countries so if we took the best ranked player from each country there would only be 40 places left, How would you decide who would fill them?

Make it a field of 256 then instead :-)

If other tournament like the US Open can do it surely the World Champs can?

Then everyone is happy!!!

Steve Davis should not keep being entered into these competitions if he doesn't play regularly or even enjoy playing.

More people deserve that spot from their recent 9ball achievements.

Wildcards should be chosen on their recent achievements in that particular sport/discipline.

Mark Gray's rise to the top in his first season.
Tommy Donlon's recent few tour stop wins.
just to name a couple.

I was going to say "That's like Kevin Trudeau entering himself into IPT Reno etc."

Then I realised.. Steve Davis can actually play the game lol.

Also for Sky to show tv coverage and rights they have to show UK based players. With the UK being a snooker spotlight all these years & advertisement for the game of pool who better else?

More people from the UK will recognise Steve Davis because of his past sucess & is a popular person with the UK public & are more likely to stay tunned on the event compaired to somebody they have never heard of.

I think Mark Gray's rise in the game has been meteoric. Clear UK No.1 at 9Ball and No.2 at the new 8Ball tour. For someone who has only been playing the game approx 15 months.

From his snooker background, obviously he has a tremendous abiliy, but this surely is only a grounding for this game and new skills and abilites must be learned.

I just hope his ability will be rewarded (like Karl Boyes hard work has paid off!!!).....and he gets the big cheques (as long as they don't bounce).

I understand higher viewing figures helps our sport grow. And Matchroom are in it for money.

I just think the WPC is about the world's BEST 9Ball players competing together in the ultimate tournament conditions.

Steve Davis is definately not one of the worlds best 9 ball players.

Every year Danny we always end up having this debate and same talk about Steve Davis & Matchroom. The end of the day us pool players we all know how we feel about this topic and if Barry Herne loves the game & why hasnt he helped the UK? and all that..... etc

The end of the day there is nothing we can do about it!!!! Best thing to do is keep shooting racks & enjoy!
