I see on the Thorsten Hohmann site that he suggests that he will be playing in the Mosconi Cup this year.
Anyone know any more???

I have ASKED Hohmann myself, and he said he hasnt been inluded yet but has used it to "motivate" himself. I can assure you those were his words. I to saw that he has listed the mosconi on his calendar so emailed him.

In my opinion I think he is there, but is waiting for matchroom to officially announce it.

It will be great for TV to see Tony in there but I just wonder whether his inclusion will harm Daryl's chances because with Tony you have a draw for the UK public. I hope it doesn't and my remaining 3 picks would be Feijen, Peach and Alcaide.

Why do you think Drago and Souquet are defos?
And the if the eurochamp get's in, the World Pool Masters usually get's in also, at least for the last decade.
Then we have Souquet, Hohmann and Engert!!!

Here are the major 9 ball winners in 2007 since the last Mosconi Cup......

Konstantin Stepanov - Euro Tour No1 ranked
Thomas Engert - World Pool Masters Champion
Thorsten Hohmann - European 9 Ball Champion
Neils Feijn - Champion of Champions, Derby City Classic
Imran Majid - Weert Open Champion, Euro Tour wnr
Daryl Peach - Euro Tour wnr
John Vassalos - Euro Tour wnr
Wojeich Trajdos - Euro Tour wnr
Christian Reimering - Euro Tour wnr
Fabio Petroni - Euro Tour wnr

Major events left.....World Cup of Pool, US Open, World Pool Championship.

Tony Drago represents Malta in every event so I don't think that would hinder any UK players chances IMO. He has done great over the last year winning a few Open events and is always there or thereabouts.

You can't rule out anyone in the Euro Tour Top 16 or someone who does well at the last 3 majors IMO.

been keeping an eye on this thread over the past couple of days

here's my thoughts on the matter.

from devil's list, i dont think you should count the challenge of champions as its only an 8man field. I suppose the same could be said about the world masters too, but this is a matchroom event and this could play a part in the final decisions.
Reimering, petroni, and fulcher have all won eurotour events this season, but apart from this they have won nothing elsewhere, fulcher and petroni's wins were virtually a year ago too, so on this basis i think they shouldnt be in the running.
Feijen, souquet, drago, and engert have not won a eurotour event this season, but feijen and engert have won other big events so they have a chance. Drago has won a few small open events with small feilds so i really dont think this should count towards his chances of getting picked. and to my knowledge souquet has not won anything all year.
hohmann is the european 9ball champion and that should stand for a lot.
this leaves uk's majid and peach. you would think they both wont be picked.
majid won the latest eurotour stop, but apart from the weert open which was held at the same venue in january, he hasnt won anything.
peach has won the german eurotour a couple of months ago, and as won most of the uk events this year too.
another usual name that we see each year is immonen, but he has done nothing to warrent his place this year, also he cost europe last year by missing an easy pot virtually to win the cup.

so my picks would be as follows.

stepanov eurotour number1 (even though he still hasn't won a title)
engert     won world masters
hohmann won european championships
peach        won eurotour germany and by far the most consistent uk player

if its a 5 man team again, my final pick would be

feijen        won a couple of big events and is probably europes most consistant player

obviously everyone has different views on the mosconi, this is mine.
like many people its my favourite event of the year, it has everything that a tv event needs, except over the past few years the euro team picks have been a bit dubious in my opinion.

ur entitled to your opinion nearlyman not knocking that!!

but few facts

daryl hasnt won nearly everything in uk this years!!
i have only played 3 ranking events this year and won all 3.. i know karl boyes as won a few events!! ossie been the abouts ,gray nipped in here and there!
so certainly anybody would agree the events have been shared around this year in uk!

i know for a fact

TONY DRAGO
RALPH SOUQUET
STEPONOV

are definates!!

i believe 2 more places!

neils fiejen for me as been best player in europe this years, done awesome in america in proper tournaments and highest money earner with over $100,000,plus his won open events ,and a 3rd place in world 8ball,plus european straight pool champion
for me he should be a definate if i was him i would be devasted if not picked!!

thorston hohman besides winning european 9ball championships his done absolutley nothing this year!!

mika been consistant in america and won big event in korea few months ago!!

imran won euro tour and weert open besides that cant recall him doing much!

daryl no 3 euro tour won a euro tour, won few uk events, final in italy i think!

fulcher euro tour no 2 and consistant performer!

fabio highly ranked euro tour won a event and also lot of good finishes in america!

acaide top 10 euro tour much improved 2nd world masters and uk8ball masters champion!

ortman world straight pool champion and consistant euro tour!

nvb few good finishes around world but not his usual year!

engert world masters champion!

raj hundal done ok in states but below par year for him!

chamat few open wins ,but below par for him!

myself done pretty well in american 5th,9th,13th,17th in major world class fields! euro tour not played enough events if had me 2 euro tour results from last year onto the 4 events have played this year total of 6 events had be in top 8 easily with one event short than everyone else! but spending lot of time in america and philippines playing lot of class and world class players for money! as cost me a high ranking on euro tour! so am out of running unless qualify for worlds and do the best out of all europeans in the world championships!

pat holtz if repeats his performance from last years world could get in

karl boyes still a chance if high finish in worlds!!

everybody got a shot if in the world championships and european!

but fiejen for me should be a automatic choice!

so that be

tony drago
souquet
stepanov
fiejen

the last spot depends all on the worlds!

all to play for it seems!!

if the american team is

strickland
back with his wife apparantly happy again and his record in mosconi is awesome i believe!

archer

duele

shane van boeing prob man to beat at moment in states

rodney morris

there favs for me!

and if you think stricklands the weak link then it says it all!
