DEFENDING CHAMPION KO PIN YI KNOCKS OUT WNT NO.1 FRANCISCO SANCHEZ IN QUARTER-FINAL
Defending champion Ko Pin Yi knocked out WNT No.1 Francisco Sanchez Ruiz to advance to the semi-finals of the 2024 World Pool Masters at Halle39 in Hildesheim, Germany, in partnership with local organizer Moltke Sports and host broadcaster Sky Sports.
BRACKETS
Despite securing the opening rack, Ruiz suffered a setback when he scratched from the break in rack 2, igniting a dominant winning streak for the 'Prince of Pool,' Ko Pin Yi. The Spanish cueist made an effort to stage a comeback in rack 6 with a jump shot over the 7 ball to pot the 2 ball, but his momentum was short-lived after missing the 4 ball in the same rack.
In rack 11, Ko Pin Yi's streak nearly came to an end at the hill after failing to pot the 2. Ruiz, eager to maintain possession, opted for safety when attempting to kick the 2 ball, only to inadvertently fluke it, leaving himself trapped from the 3 ball. Capitalising on Ruiz’s error, Ko Pin Yi secured victory in the quarter-final with a commanding 10-1 win, further solidifying his title defence.

DEFENDING CHAMPION KO PIN YI ADVANCES TO QUARTER-FINALS
Ko Pin Yi makes history as the first defending champion in seven years to reach the quarter-final of the 2024 World Pool Masters after defeating David Alcaide in the opening round WRAat Halle39 in Hildesheim, Germany, in partnership with local organiser Moltke Sports and host broadcaster Sky Sports.

Defending champion Ko Pin Yi faced two-time World Pool Masters champion David ‘El Matador’ Alcaide, who aimed to become the second player to win three titles in the tournament.
The opening rack saw Ko Pin Yi lose his lead after missing a 4-8 combo, swiftly executed by Alcaide. However, Alcaide made a crucial error in rack 3, failing to pot the 7 ball and subsequently losing the lead entirely. Seeking to capitalise on Pin Yi’s mistake in rack 10, Alcaide faced a dry break and missed the 3 ball in the following rack, allowing Ko Pin Yi to secure a 9-6 victory, marking the first time a defending champion has advanced through round one in seven years.
Reflecting on his performance following his victory, the defending champion said: “I’m very happy to win the first match because it was a tough contest; my opponent David Alcaide is very skilled.” Ko Pin Yi acknowledged that his adjustment in breaking allowed him to swiftly elevate his game, ultimately leading to his victory over El Matador.

HISTORY MADE AS EFREN REYES CUP TO LAUNCH IN THE PHILIPPINES IN 2024
The World Nineball Tour is delighted to announce the formation of the Reyes Cup, in partnership with Puyat Sports Inc. and Sky Sports as the broadcaster for the UK and Ireland; a brand-new Invitational event that will see Asia’s finest players take on Team Europe in year one of the event, October 17th-20th.
The inaugural Reyes Cup will be held in Manila, capital of the Philippines, in honour of pool’s greatest player and tournament namesake, Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes. A world champion and US Open Pool Championship winner, Reyes is widely regarded as the sport’s greatest-ever player, serving as inspiration for millions of pool fans across the globe. Partnering with Francisco Bustamante to form an all-time dream partnership, the Magician also won the World Cup of Pool for the Philippines in 2009.
The tournament will follow in the footsteps of the four-day team format of the prestigious Mosconi Cup, which celebrated its 30th anniversary at Alexandra Palace, London last December. Team Asia will be represented by the top-three ranked players from the World Nineball Rankings one-year list, with two additional wildcards selected by Team Asia captain.

FILLER’S ROUND ONE REDEMPTION | 2024 WORLD POOL MASTERS
2022 World Pool Masters champion Joshua Filler claimed redemption in the opening round of the 2024 edition at Halle39 in Hildesheim, Germany in partnership with local organiser Moltke Sports and host broadcaster Sky Sports.
BRACKETS
The stakes were high for Filler as he entered this year’s event, following his early exit from last year’s World Pool Masters and his defeat to Kaçi in the final of the 2023 UK Open.
Kaci initially seized the lead in the opening racks, capitalising on Filler’s struggles with his long shots. However, the advantage was short-lived as the two players engaged in a back-and-forth battle. The momentum shifted when the score reached 6-6 in rack 12, with Filler showcasing his skill by strategically hooking Kaci behind the 6 ball. In an attempt to regain control, Kaci scratched the 3 ball, leading to Killer Filler dominating the final rounds and securing victory. This win marked Filler’s much-needed redemption, dashing Kaci’s hopes of a comeback and propelling Filler closer to his second World Pool Masters title.
Filler said: “The only thing that stays in my mind is the way I started; I couldn’t find a pocket. But I waited for my chances and luckily in the end it turned around. I started feeling good and I could feel the table better.”

ENTRIES OPEN HERE FOR JS JUNIOR OPEN – ENTER HERE
Matchroom Pool is delighted to announce the return of the Jayson Shaw Junior Open at this year’s UK Open, set to run from May 10-11 in Telford.
Named after the 2023 Hanoi Open Champion and two-time Mosconi Cup MVP, the tournament will offer 32 of the best up-and-coming players the opportunity to play alongside the pros in the UK Open at the Telford International Centre.
As part of Matchroom’s commitment to growing Nineball and offering opportunities to all, the tournament will be the first of six junior opens on the 2024 calendar alongside SVB Junior Open in Atlantic City, and the Vietnam Junior Open in Hanoi.
Carrying a prize fund of $10,000, the JS Junior Open will be a 32-player double elimination field of players aged 17 and under, battling it out for a free spot in the 2025 UK Open. Entry will cost $100, which will be refunded after the event is completed, provided they participate. Juniors competing will also receive a custom jersey provided by Onboard Sportswear, as well as Kamui chalk and cue tip.
The final will also be live-streamed on the Matchroom Pool social media pages with coverage also set to feature during the live broadcast on Sky Sports in the UK and networks worldwide.
Juniors competing in the tournament will not be eligible to compete in the main UK Open Pool Championship due to match schedules. As part of the entry to the JS Junior Open, juniors will be offered a free season pass for them and one adult to enjoy the whole UK Open, allowing them to have time to study the world’s best as they battle.

Matchroom Multi Sport is delighted to announce that the Mosconi Cup, the showcase of the World Nineball Tour, will be held at the Caribe Royale resort in Orlando, Florida between Saturday, 30 November and Tuesday, 3 December, live on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom & Ireland and DAZN in the United States
Traditionally hosted between London and Las Vegas, the 2024 edition will see the event move to the Sunshine State for the first time in the illustrious history of the Trans-Atlantic spectacle. Fans will be able to get their hands on both tickets in April, for the biggest event on the World Nineball Tour.

VAN BOENING CAPTURES PREMIER LEAGUE POOL TITLE IN CONNECTICUT
Shane Van Boening lifted the Premier League Pool title on Monday evening, live from US 1 Billiards, West Haven, Connecticut on Matchroom.live and DAZN in the United States, defeating World Pool Master Ko Pin Yi 7-4 in the in the final.
For Van Boening, this marks his first Matchroom title on the World Nineball Tour since lifting the 2022 World Pool Championship, and adds to a collection of invitational titles alongside the Mosconi Cup, World Pool Masters and World Cup of Pool.
