Van Boening And Kazakis Out Of 2022 World Pool Masters

Newly crowned World Champion Shane Van Boening and Defending Champion Alexander Kazakis are both out of the 2022 World Pool Masters at the Europa Point Sports Complex, Gibraltar live on Sky Sports, DAZN, Viaplay, and Matchroom.Live in selected countries after losses to Lo Ho Sum and Dennis Orcollo, respectively.

Alexander Kazakis 0-7 Dennis Orcollo

Max Lechner 7-2 Dimitri Jungo

Shane Van Boening 6-7 Lo Ho Sum

WHERE TO WATCH

BRACKET

Kazakis came into the contest on a high after a run to the quarter-finals of the World Pool Championship last month and a whitewash win in last year's final over Shane Van Boening but the Greek was rooted to his chair as Orcollo rallied at a canter to the quarter-finals. It was a clinic from Orcollo who has now won 14 racks in a row after coming from 4-0 down behind in his afternoon Preliminary Stage match with Eklent Kaçi. Kazakis' opportunities were few and far between and he missed a big one in the fourth rack after losing the cue ball off the six, he failed to get any position on the eight and clear up the rest of the rack. At 4-0 down, Kazakis missed the five ball when looking to cut it in the top right corner and that was then Orcollo 5-0 up and two away from victory. From then on, Orcollo breezed into the quarter-finals where he will play the winner of Joshua Filler and Skyler Woodward.

Semi-Final Line-up Complete At 2022 World Pool Masters

The semi-final line-up for the 2022 World Pool Masters is complete at the Europa Point Sports Complex, Gibraltar live on Sky Sports, DAZN, Viaplay, and Matchroom.Live in selected countries as Lo Ho Sum, Joshua Filler, and Mieszko Fortunski joined Ko Pin Yi in tonight's finale.

Abdullah Alyousef 6-7 Lo Ho Sum

Joshua Filler 7-0 Dennis Orcollo

Francisco Sanchez Ruiz 4-7 Mieszko Fortunski

Lo found himself 4-1 down to Abdullah Alyousef who had rallied up some early confidence to leave the youngster wondering where his next shot may come on the table in a nervy affair. Alyousef is no pushover on the back of reaching the semi-finals of the World Pool Championship just a month ago, but his rhythm was disrupted in the sixth rack.

Lo had missed the two ball in his first opportunity at the table but Alyousef made a howler of an error on the three ball to put Lo back in who soon made it 4-2. The difference was soon one. In the seventh rack, Alyousef was snookered on the eight ball before making a meal of his effort for Lo to make it 4-3. Both players were making their World Pool Masters debut this week and was soon level for the first time since the start of the match at 4-4. It soon went 5-5 before Lo was first to reach the hill. Alyousef played the six ball with too much spin making the cue ball nestle inside the jaw of the middle pocket offering up a tricky pot on the seven, the Kuwaiti missed allowing Lo to reach the hill.

The miss of the tournament came in the next rack as Lo had the one ball in front of him and the five over the pocket - somehow the one ball avoided the five allowing Alyousef back to the table. Alyousef made him pay for hill-hill. Lo then completed a nervy but deserved victory in the following rack in more routine fashion to book a semi-final spot.

Jayson Shaw Out As Woodward, Jungo, Lo, And Fortunski Move Into Last 16

Jayson Shaw crashed out of the 2022 World Pool Masters at the Europa Point Sports Complex, Gibraltar live on Sky Sports, DAZN, Viaplay, and Matchroom.Live in selected countries as Skyler Woodward, Dimitri Jungo, Lo Ho Sum, and Mieszko Fortunski came through the opening Preliminary Stage matches.

Preliminary Stage Day 1

Oliver Szolnoki 3-7 Skyler Woodward

Mario He 3-7 Dimitri Jungo

Denis Grabe 4-7 Lo Ho Sum

Jayson Shaw 2-7 Mieszko Fortunski

WHERE TO WATCH

BRACKET

Woodward faced a tricky opening test against Oliver Szolnoki of Hungary who was making his World Pool Masters debut, but the two-time Mosconi Cup MVP proved too strong in the end in a 7-3 win. Szolnoki didn't look too shaken by the stage and 4" pockets in the opening rack to lead 1-0 after winning the lag and it remained tight as Woodward made it one apiece. Not much separated them still as it went 3-3 but that's when Woodward made haste to book a Last 16 contest with Joshua Filler on Saturday evening.

Last year, Woodward overcome compatriot Billy Thorpe in the preliminary stage 7-1, and he went 4-3 up before a string of outrageous rolls in the following rack making the four when trying to play safe on the one before finding himself hooked on the one. The American then jumped the one ball before it rebounded off four rails to make the middle pocket. If those two flukes were not enough, Woodward then proceeded to make the six ball in an attempt to make the two as the cue ball came back up the table to roll the six in. It seemed it wasn't going to be Szolnoki's day though as Woodward kept things going to seal the victory.

Woodward was pleased with his showing after losing both matches at the World Pool Championship last month: "The last few tournaments things haven't gone my way with some very bad results. I felt good at the World Pool Championships, and I got beat but that happens. Things can turn around though, it's a new tournament. Playing on tight pockets at home is nice and the cloth on my table is worn out so it helps when we come here! It makes me feel like the pockets here are wider. The tables play well."

"I am looking forward to playing Joshua Filler. It's always a dog fight. I can't wait to play again on Saturday night," added Woodward.

Dynamic Billard Treviso Open - Fabulous Filler Claims Third ET Crown

JOSHUA FILLER is the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open champion following a hard-fought 9-5 victory over Klenti Kaci at the BHR Treviso Hotel in the northern Italian city. It was the 24-year-old German’s third Euro Tour victory in a meteoric career that seems to have no limits.

The final was not the break and run fest that was anticipated; rather it turned into a tactical battle predicated on some supreme skill from both players. Kaci (Albania) didn’t do much wrong but was edged out in the safety play that dominated many of the racks.

An excited Joshua was analytical in victory; “The break was just not working for us and mostly we had to play a push out after the break which makes it more tactical and more often, I had the better ending. He played unbelievable though; neither of us missed an open shot which showed how great we played this final.

“We both deserved something but that’s how it is in sports – you only have one winner in the end and luckily this time it was me and I’m just delighted to have won it for the third time.”

ROUND TWO

THERE WERE FOUR more matches completed in Round Two of the Longoni 9 Ball League which took place at the BHR Treviso Hotel in Italy. The competition features 12 two-man teams divided into four groups of three. Each team plays the other team once in race-to-7 scotch doubles matches and the leading four teams at the end of league play move forward to the semi-finals.

The twist is that it is the top-two ranked players on the Euro Tour ranking prior to the round of matches who will be representing their country so it won’t necessarily be the same two players throughout the tournament.

The opening match on table one saw the Netherlands narrowly defeat Albania by the odd rack in an exciting encounter that highlighted the cut-throat nature of the format. The Dutch were represented by Niels Feijen and Marc Bijsterbosch, while Klenti Kaci and Besar Spahiu wore Albanian colours.

The Dutch pair were always in the ascendancy as they won the scrappy racks and before long found themselves in a 5-2 lead in the race-to-7 match, leaving the Albanians with a bit of a mountain to climb.

A good break from Kaci saw two balls drop and a fine pot on the 2 ball from Spahiu gave them, a chance to claw one back. They took it with some confident potting to make it 5-3. An illegal break, this time from Bijsterbosch, gave Albania another chance. It was by no means an easy table but they knuckled down to take it and reduce the arrears to a single rack.

Looking to take the next Spahiu made a fatal error, leaving the 5-ball hanging after a slow fine cut. Dutch tension eased as they took the remaining balls to gain a two-rack lead to go on the hill at 6-4.

A third illegal break of the match returned the table to the Albanians who now had to win the remaining three racks for victory. They took the rack and then the next to take the match to the hill at 6-6.

It was Bijsterbosch to break and it was a good one but left an awkward table. A loosener from Spahiu left the 4 ball for Feijen to pocket then Bijsterbosch took the 5 using the bridge. That was effectively the end as the Dutch cleared up for a hard-fought 7-6 win.
