It’s Spitzky’s Title In Dramatic Finale

Predator Euro Tour Series
2025 Kamui Slovenian Open
IT’S SPITZKY’S TITLE IN DRAMATIC FINALE
12th July 2025
MARCO SPITZKY IS the KAMUI SLOVENIAN OPEN champion as he defeated Mario He 10-9 in a thrilling climax as he came from 9-5 down to grab victory at the death. Mario had enough chances to win and was bitterly disappointed with his display as he squandered the opportunity to take down his seventh Predator Euro Tour title.
Spitzky who came into the event ranked No.10, is something of a part-time player, working by day with children at a kindergarten, but he showed nerves of steel to hang in there and take advantage of Mario’s errors.
Hailing from Hamburg, Germany, Spitzky’s previous best was a semi-final spot in Austria last year. This time out he got off to the worst possible start in the competition as he was relegated to the losers side at the hands of Ralf Souquet. However, he battled through, and went on to beat Mariusz Sniegocki in the last eight before defeating recent Predator Austrian Open winner, Mieszko Fortunski 10-9 to make his way to the final.

Wu Jia-Qing and the Unbreakable Record

Phil Yates
Author
Most sporting cliches, while undoubtedly annoying, are centred in fact. ‘Records are made to be broken’ is a prime example, although when it comes to the World 9-Ball Championship one unprecedented achievement may well last a lifetime.
Twenty years ago this month, Wu Chia-Ching, now known as Wu Jia-Qing, captured the sport’s most prestigious title in Kaohsiung, the largest port in Chinese Taipei. The home-grown champion rallied from 16-12 down to dramatically edge Kuo Po-Cheng 17-16.
Wu was 16.
Absorb that for a moment. Wu was 16.
“It was just phenomenal,” recalls Karl Boyes, who was transfixed watching history unfold on TV back home in the UK. “I remember thinking, ‘This is unbelievable’. I thought the kid was unbelievable.
“At the time I was transitioning from English 8-Ball to a serious tilt at 9-Ball and seeing Wu really inspired me. It was a massive buzz, the shot-making, the way he seemed to take the big shots totally in his stride, the cue-ball control. It was all top notch outstanding.”
“The whole thing astounded me to be honest. What you’ve got to remember, it was a big, packed arena, a whole new experience for the lad and he was up against an opponent good enough to get back to a World 9-Ball Championship final five years later.”

GB 9 Ball Tour (GB9) - Event 2 Report
GB9 2025 Event 2
What an event we've had. 75 entries, with plenty of participants from the first event, a load of new faces trying out GB9 for the first time, and a few who have played in GB9 in the past, wanting to see what the new GB9 is about.
The main event was so full of quality with sterling performances throughout the comp, but it was Fraser "the Razor" Patrick who came through after a sustained challenge from Ramesh "Ramma Jamma" Gokhul, winning 11-7.
The Quarter Finalists alone were full of absolute beasts of players, and big names like Benji Buckley, Sunesh Garib, Mark Foster, Matthew Rigley, Phil Wildman, and Imran Majid weren't able to progress to the last 16. The quality on show was exceptional, but Fraser really is playing with huge confidence and rightly so. He was pushed hard by Stephen Ellis, Adrian Pollard, and Carlo Blasi, en route to the final, but he just had too much for all the challengers. Well done to Fraser, in his first ever GB9, and should point out that he's an incredible person to talk to. Zero arrogance, but 100% confident.

Mieszko Fortuński wins the Polish Grand Prix
Mieszko Fortuński wins the Polish Grand Prix Brześć Słomka Ptysiowa POL TOUR XXII Gdańsk Championship!
The fourth tournament of this year's Polish Grand Prix POL TOUR series ended with the success of Mieszko Fortuński, who defeated Wojciech Szewczyk 6:4 in the final.
Last weekend, the 22nd Gdańsk edition of the Polish Grand Prix Brześć Słomka Ptysiowa POL TOUR series took place. This competition has a long tradition dating back to 1998. This time, the confrontation of the country's top billiard players took place at the Green Club Gdańsk.
121 participants signed up for the June Grand Prix, including the country's top players. Once again, interest in the tournament exceeded the organizers' expectations. "I must admit that I did a lot of head-scratching to get as many people on the starting list as possible," admits Marcin Krzemiński, the organizer of the series.
During the official opening of the event, special thanks were given to Leszek Pieśniak, owner of the Green Club Gdańsk, for the joint organization of the competition.
The group stage took place on Saturday. The participants were divided into 28 groups, from which only 56 players could advance to the Sunday knockout stage. The leading players did not disappoint, all the big names reported to the play-offs.
After many hours of competition, Wojciech Szewczyk and Mieszko Fortuński advanced to the final. The former is the current leader of the national Open Ranking of the 2025 season, while Fortuński has a recent triumph in the Euro Tour European Cup behind him, which promised a very good competition. The Polish representatives did not disappoint, giving the fans of billiards sports emotions of the highest order. Ultimately, Fortuński defeated Szewczyk 6:4 and he was the one who reached for the statuette. Daniel Macioł and Wiktor Fortuński took the last place on the podium. The next competition of the Pol Tour series will take place at the end of October.

Ko Pin Yi: A Decade On
KO PIN YI: A DECADE ON
In 2015, Ko Pin Yi achieved what few players ever dream of—he conquered the world of pool.
In one remarkable calendar year, Ko won the World 9-Ball Championship, the World 10-Ball Championship, and the World Cup of Pool. It was a golden treble that established him as one of the game’s true greats.
Now, a decade on, Ko returns to the World Pool Championship not just as a former champion, but as a player with renewed purpose and a sharpened game, carrying the pride of Chinese Taipei and the hopes of a new generation on his shoulders.
What he remembers most from that unforgettable 2015 run isn’t the trophies—but the people beside him. “My brothers were with me during those tournaments, which gave me a great sense of comfort and allowed me to compete with peace of mind,” Ko reflects. “My family was also very supportive, which meant a lot to me.”
That final match in the World 9-Ball Championship, the moment he potted the winning ball to become champion of the world, lives on vividly. “Winning a world championship is every professional player’s dream. In that moment, I achieved it. More than just happiness, it gave me confidence—the confidence to proudly say, ‘I am a world champion.’”
But time has passed, and the game has evolved. So too has Ko.
