Alex Kazakis - Greece
Kazakis Rallies to Win Apex Wisconsin Open
Reporter: Predator Group Press Release
Photographer: Predator Group Press Release
It only made sense that Alex Kazakis’s day end in the same way that it started.
As he progressed through the brackets of the single-elimination phase of the Apex Wisconsin Open, the young Greek’s performance resembled that of a yo-yo. Just when it seemed he was gaining momentum or about to close out a set, a mistake would cost him. Conversely, when it seemed Kazakis’s championship hopes were starting to wane, an opponent would miss or commit a crucial tactical error.
Through it all, Kazakis was able to preserve, surviving four consecutive matches which advanced to an extra-frame shootout to win the 64-player event Saturday night at the Ho-Chunk Resort and Casino in the Wisconsin Dells. The reigning World Pool Masters champion defeated former World 9-Ball Champion Fedor Gorst, reigning World 10-Ball champion Eklent Kaci, Filipino Lee Van Corteza and Kuwait’s Bader Alawadhi to earn his first championship on American soil. Kazakis’s title match against the Kuwaiti upstart was a microcosm of his day – overcoming a handful of self-inflicted wounds only to rally and survive the match in the shootout.
Alawadhi drew first blood in the championship match, taking advantage of a missed 9 ball by his opponent and adding a break-and-run to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead. Kazakis had a chance to retaliate in the third rack when his opponent missed a 5 ball and took full advantage, winning three straight games thanks to a break-and-run and an unforced error on the 5 ball in the fifth game by Alawadhi. With a chance to close out the set, Kazakis failed to pocket a ball on the break in the sixth game and Alawadhi cleared the table then promptly scratched on the break in the deciding rack, handing his opponent ball-in-hand and possibly the set.

New Logo and Prize Fund Increase for the Euro Tour in 2022
With the EPBF’s Euro Tour series entering its 31st year, it is the longest running 9-ball pool tour in the world. Having already paid out several millions in prize money over the years, the Euro Tour has increased the prize fund for 2022 from 228,000 Euro to 270,000 over the six tour stops. The winners at each event will now trouser €6,000 as their reward while beaten semi-finalists will pick up a cool €3,000 euros.
EPBF President Gre Leenders said, “With the launch of the Live TV Project, the step to increasing the prize money is a logical one. We try to increase the value of the Euro Tour every year and it says enough that the Euro Tour is entering its 31st year.
“The cooperation with Matchroom Multi Sport will also give the EuroTour an extra boost so that the prestige of the Euro Tour will increase even more.”

THE TRADITION
Excerpt from www.DerbyCityClassic.com
Although evidence dates the game of billiards back to the fifteenth century, the first billiards tournament wasn't put on record until 1878. Billiards seems to have been on an increasingly fast and growing track ever since but no tournament in recent history had been as popular as the twelve year competition held through 1972 at Johnson City, Illinois. Get billiard enthusiasts reminiscing about great players, great tourneys, great games, great memories, and they yearn for those two weeks at Johnson City that drew the world's best players competing in all the games.
General conversation, a desire to return to tradition, and rapid word of mouth resulted in advanced commitment from players to the first Derby City Classic. The success of the tournament, the glowing accolades from players, and their determination to return to The Derby City Classic, proves that not only was it a sorely missed and legendary tradition immediately re-established with the Derby City Classic, but new traditions and legends were born.

Fedor Gorst
Gorst Repeats as Arcadia Arizona Open Champion
Reporter: Predator Group Press Release
Photographer: Predator Group Press Release
Last July, Fedor Gorst helped to kick off the first-ever Arcadia Arizona Open, the first of four events in the newly-created U.S. Pro Billiard Series, by posting an undefeated record and taking down eventual U.S. Pool champion Carlo Biado in the finals.
Six months later, the Arizona Open was back – kicking off the first of six tournaments being held in the United States by equipment manufacturer Predator Group and CueSports International in 2022 – and so was Gorst. The 21-year-old delivered a similar result as he did last summer, as he battled his way back from the one-loss side of the bracket to defend his title, holding off a fierce battle by Filipino Roland Garcia in straight sets, 4-3. 4-2.
With the victory, Gorst earned $25,000 and automatic entry into the 2023 World 10-Ball Championships in Las Vegas.
After his opening break shot of the championship match resulted in an effective spread of the balls, the young man from Moscow appeared positioned to draw first blood but missed a routine 7 ball in the corner pocket. He would tie the match at a game each when his opponent failed to pocket a ball on the break in the next game, then tacked on another rack when Garcia missed the 1 ball on a jump shot. The Filipino would claim two of the next three games thanks victorious safety exchanges and appeared to be in position to steal the first set but struggled with cue ball positioning down the stretch and missed the 8 ball, allowing Gorst to steal the set, 4-3.
