USA TAKE SLENDER LEAD AT 2021 CAZOO MOSCONI CUP
Team Europe 4-5 Team USA
Fans' Choice Singles Match - Jayson Shaw 5-3 Shane Van Boening
Albin Ouschan 3-5 Skyler Woodward
Ouschan/Shaw 4-5 Van Boening/Woodward
Joshua Filler 3-5 Tyler Styer
Alcaide/Kaći 5-4 Reinhold/Jones
Team USA take a slender one-point lead going into the third day of the 2021 Cazoo Mosconi Cup at Alexandra Palace, London at 5-4.
Van Boening raced into a quick two-nil lead breaking and running in the opener to set the early tone for the American. The USA vice-captain found himself having to cut the seven to run out the third rack after getting back to the table, but he failed to do so putting Shaw on the board at 2-1. Shaw was gifted the fifth rack which saw him hit the front for the first time in the match after Van Boening had scratched off the break leaving the Eagle Eye to clear up.
No sooner had Europe established a lead, the USA responded with Skyler Woodward downing World Champion Albin Ouschan despite the Austrian's best efforts including making five off the break in the fourth rack at 2-1 down. Woodward was gifted an opportunity in the fifth rack after Ouschan left the one ball in the jaws of the pocket as it rattled around. The American tide was coming as Woodward rallied making a 2-9 combo to put him on the hill at 4-3 before closing it out for a huge point as Woodward avenged his World Pool Championship quarter-final defeat to Ouschan from earlier this year.

FINELY POISED AFTER DAY 1 OF 2021 CAZOO MOSCONI CUP
TEAM EUROPE 2-2 TEAM USA
Team Europe 2-5 Team USA
Ouschan/Kaći 4-5 Styer/Reinhold
Joshua Filler 5-2 Shane Van Boening
Alcaide/Shaw 5-0 Woodward/Jones
Team Europe and Team USA will head into day two of the 2021 Cazoo Mosconi Cup all square at two-all after the opening day of action at Alexandra Palace, London.
Team USA spearheaded by Jeremy Jones and Shane Van Boening took the opening team match in convincing style to settle any early nerves. Van Boening led by example with a break and run in the opening rack before Jones put a two-rack buffer between the two teams in the fourth rack. Europe struggled early doors as the USA pounced on errors and it was left up to two-time MVP Skyler Woodward to seal the first point of the tournament with the standout shot coming as he rifled in the one ball.
Jones called on Tyler Styer and Chris Reinhold in the first doubles match of the tournament and faced off against Albin Ouschan and Eklent Kaçi as it was decided in unbelievable fashion with things poised at hill-hill. The fourth rack was where momentum turned though, Kaçi left Ouschan tight on the rail with only three balls left on the table, and he failed to put away the seven down. In truth, Europe struggled, and their woes continued in the last rack as Ouschan and Kaçi got their playing order mixed up leaving the USA to race into a 2-0 advantage overall.
Joshua Filler was making his Alexandra Palace debut despite it being his fourth Cazoo Mosconi Cup. The German has had many battles already though in that time against USA vice-captain Shane Van Boening and this match was going to be no different with the first rack going to the wire as Filler's eight ball wiped its feet leaving the cue ball right in the pocket before he potted the nine.
The biggest reaction from the crowd on the night came in the third rack as Filler made the first golden break of the tournament as the seven kicked the nine ball in to put the Killer into a 3-1 lead. Europe Captain Alex Lely was wax lyrical about Filler's capabilities in his programme notes and that the Killer 'breathes fire' and that assessment came true as he delivered an inch-perfect seven ball the full length of the table en route to a 4-2 lead. The 2021 World Cup of Pool champion completed a 5-2 victory in the following rack with a routine runout.

Day Three – ZIELINSKI TRIUMPHANT IN TREVISO!

POLAND’S WIKTOR ZIELINSKI took the honours in the final Dynamic Billiard
Euro Tour of the year as he defeated Mats Schjetne of Norway 9-4 in the
championship match at the BHR Treviso Hotel in the northern Italian
city. It was the 20 year-old’s second Euro Tour title, his first coming
in the same venue in 2017 when Zielinski became the youngest ever player
to win an ET title.
“Treviso is a really nice place for me; I’ve won two Euro Tours here
now, I met my girlfriend here, so yes, I really like this place!’
commented a delighted Zielinski.
“My girlfriend really helped me a lot here as I was playing five matches
a day for two days in a row and I didn’t have time to eat so she bought
me some pizza so I’m really thankful to her.
“I lost my first match of the tournament and was on the losers’ side so
I had to win five matches yesterday so I was exhausted but I felt better
today though. I felt I could have been out of the event yesterday so
this morning I thought, ‘let’s see what happens’”, he added.
Seemingly from a never-ending production line of top-drawer Polish
players, Zielinski always had too much for his opponent in the final.
Ironically, Zielinski lost his opening match of the tournament to local
player Filippo Cataldi, but from there he put his foot down.

JEREMY JONES: IT'S A PRIVILEGE TO REPRESENT THE USA
USA captain Jeremy Jones says it is a privilege to represent his country at the Mosconi Cup and has called on his team to be prepared for battle as they look to take the cup out of Europe's hands at Alexandra Palace, December 7-10.

Jones will lead his side for a second time with the addition of Shane Van Boening as playing-Vice Captain as they look to replicate their last visit to Alexandra Palace in 2018 where they ran out 11-9 winners: “I always said from day one from being vice. I like going to London to try and get the cup. I like having as many fans as possible. That energy bodes well for us. On paper, we’re underdogs, right? You can set aside being a captain. But you must look at ways that are a little bit of an underdog win and variables are one of them. And anytime you throw those variables, especially the variables that I think our team thrives on. I will be honest; those London fans can be like Yankee fans. If you start to make an error here or there, they can turn on you quickly. I am not really relying on that but it’s a part of it.”
“It’s special, it’s almost so special in the moment you do not get to feel it. You do get to feel it though, there are let downs good and bad. It’s weird being a knowledgeable pool player and not being in the arena, you kind of notice everything going on. The awareness is amazing, maybe because you’re wanting to win so bad or you’re paying attention wanting to fight for your guys out there in the arena."

Some outstanding standards from all 32 players who attended the event at London Snooker Tooting. Strong players across the field saw some intense match ups from the very start of the day.
There's no surprise that there was a solid impressive run from Rico Diks to reach the final but well done to Craig Osborne who came and conquered at London's Finest Pool's first major event yesterday with an outstanding standard of play for a very deserved win.

STRICKLAND: IT SHOULD SCARE THEM. I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY THINK
Earl Strickland believes Team Europe should fear his Mosconi Cup return at Alexandra Palace, London, December 7-10 with the nine-time winner not caring what his counterparts think of him.
BUY YOUR TICKETS HERE
The Pearl became USA captain Jeremy Jones’ first wild card pick joining Skyler Woodward, Tyler Styer, Chris Reinhold, and vice-captain Shane Van Boening in the red, blue, and white of America. “I didn’t really think I would be back again. I thought I had passed that point with my age but there’s one remarkable thing about me is that I am still intact at 60-years old,” said Strickland.
Strickland has been a part of some of the biggest moments in Mosconi Cup history over the years but captaining his country stands out most: “My favourite memory from when I was captain and we beat them 12-1 in 2001. Barry Hearn told me I was a genius. I have a couple of memories like winning it with the final nine-ball (2000). I can’t remember all the years. It’s hard to remember every year and what happened. I was ready to play. I still think I play as well as I ever did. Maybe my break isn’t as good as it once was. I still play a good game and I am capable of winning matches. That’s why I am not bowing out. If I knew I wasn’t capable of being a threat to win a match or point, then I would bow out and let someone else play. I can still play. I will be ready. I am healthy.”
