FRANCISCO SANCHEZ RUIZ made it two-out-of-two Euro Tour titles as he
took down the Dynamic Billiard Turkish Open presented by the Turkish
Billiard Federation with a confident 9-5 victory over emerging young
Serbian player Aleksa Pecelj.
The 29 year-old has been playing on the Euro Tour for the best part of a
decade and may have been thinking that elusive title may never come but
he won in August in Slovenia and followed it up today with a string of
imposing performances to become the first man to win consecutive Euro
Tour titles since Dennis Grabe in 2014.
Perhaps the confidence of winning his maiden title has elevated Sanchez
Ruiz to a higher level and it certainly showed over the past three days
here at the Venezia Palace Hotel on Turkey’s south coast. In tip-top
form throughout, the Spaniard never conceded more than five racks in any
of his matches.
Afterwards he said, “I feel very excited as I didn’t expect to win this
tournament but I felt really good and played it round by round so I'm
really happy.
“I'm going to try for a hat-trick in Treviso next month. I know it's
going to be tough but I'll give it 100%. It's practice, practice,
practice and if you believe in your dream, you can do it!”

Dominant Buckley only concedes 9 racks in whole tournament!
Report by: Can Ibrahim
Riley’s Solihull once again played host to the latest event in the Go-Customs 9-Ball series, and on the morning of the 23rd of October 40 players arrived sharply, ready to battle it out for cash, prestige, ranking points, and a place in the grand finals. The atmosphere was buzzing - the stage was set.
Dave Hopkin got off to a flying start, convincingly despatching aside Kevin Rowles 7-2. Shane Conroy also continued his good run of form after a good run at the last GB9 event, making light work of Shaun Johnson 7-1. Ryan Wissett didn’t have it quite so easy though, squeezing past the senior Weaver, Steve, 7-6.
Elsewhere old rivals Luke Hart and Apostolis Harmas, who’ve had many a local battle, had a close one - the man from Greece coming up trumps this time. Dave Hopkin also gave one of the favourites from the day, Luke Garland, a run for his money, but Luke prevailed 7-5. Meanwhile, Garland senior and series founder Daryl didn’t have it quite so good, falling to an in-form Kev Simpson, in a match that would have been easy on the eyes - neither player known for too much deliberation.
Other early games of note were a hill-hill thriller between Alvin Chan and GJ Black, which went the way of Alvin, and Terry Davies with a solid win over previous GB9 Tier 1 winner Stuart Colclough.
Tour chairman Andy Carter couldn’t quite hold it together for what would have been a memorable win over Dave Hopkin, losing hill-hill in an exciting, nervy game. Meanwhile there was no time for sentiment between fellow Solihull-based players, Ryan Coton and Andy Lacey - Andy inflicting a heavy defeat on up-and-comer Ryan.

EARL STRICKLAND RETURNS TO MOSCONI CUP FOR TEAM USA
Mosconi Cup legend Earl Strickland will return to Team USA for the first time since 2013 at Alexandra Palace, London, December 7-10 as Jeremy Jones’ first wild card pick.
BUY YOUR TICKETS HERE
The Pearl has won the joint-most amount of Mosconi Cup titles with nine and will go on the hunt for a historic tenth under the guidance of Jones and vice-captain Shane Van Boening.
Strickland carries legendary status in the game and has given fans some of the Mosconi Cup’s finest ever moments from battling with snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan in 1996 to claiming MVP in 2005 as the USA beat Europe 11-6. He joins Van Boening and Skyler Woodward on the USA’s team so far with two more wild cards to be picked by Jones over the coming weeks. Europe’s Alex Lely has completed his side which consists of Albin Ouschan, David Alcaide, Jayson Shaw, Joshua Filler, and Eklent Kaçi.
“You’re playing for your country which is the most important thing. You’re playing for the love of the game and the competition is probably the most difficult in the world of pool. The pressure is difficult, you do not have a lot of time to prove yourself. Every shot is critical.” said Strickland.
“I still think I play as good as I ever did. Maybe my break isn’t as good as it once was. I still play a good game and I am capable of winning matches. That’s why I am not bowing out. If I knew I wasn’t capable of being a threat to win a match or point, then I would bow out and let someone else play. I can still play. I will be ready. I am healthy.”
“I didn’t really think I would be back again. I thought I had passed that point” – Earl Strickland
Relive some of Strickland’s biggest Mosconi Cup moments on our YouTube right now.
Over the coming weeks, Jones of America will reveal his final two wild card picks ahead of battle in December. Keep an eye on Matchroom Pool’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for the latest.

EKLENT KAÇI COMPLETES TEAM EUROPE
Eklent Kaçi is the fifth and final player to be selected by Alex Lely to represent Team Europe at the 2021 Mosconi Cup, Alexandra Palace, London, December 7-10 joining Albin Ouschan, David Alcaide, Jayson Shaw, and Joshua Filler.

The 22-year-old will make his fourth Mosconi Cup appearance on the back of winning the World 10-Ball Championship in September and reaching the semi-finals of the World Pool Masters earlier in the year as well as being a part of Europe’s 11-3 winning Mosconi side last December 2020.
Captain Lely said: “He’s become a Mosconi Cup veteran with his fourth consecutive year. He will bring that experience and the hunger to do better yet like the first two years he was okay. Last year he was okay, he was solid and looked strong at times. He has it in him to go beyond that and he will look to go beyond that this year.”
“He came third in a couple of Matchroom Pool Series events, and he missed out on some tournaments due to travel issues, but the crown was a victory in the World 10-Ball Championship, and he’s won in Europe recently. He’s sharp and as purer ball-striker as there is in the game and that’s what oozes out of him in the Mosconi Cup arena. He will be looking to be the man of the hour. He has it in him. We expect him to bring his best on and away from the table as a member of the team.”
Jeremy Jones’ USA side is taking shape with vice-captain Shane Van Boening joined by Skyler Woodward so far and the rest of the team to be announced over the course of the next weeks. Keep an eye on Matchroom Pool’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for the latest as the two teams get ready to do battle.

JOSHUA FILLER CONFIRMED FOR TEAM EUROPE
Joshua Filler has been confirmed as the fourth member of Team Europe for the 2021 Mosconi Cup at Alexandra Palace, London, December 7-10 joining Albin Ouschan, David Alcaide, and Jayson Shaw on Alex Lely’s side.

Filler will represent the blue and yellow of Europe for the fourth time on the back of a year that has seen the German claim another Matchroom Pool Series title in the World Cup of Pool back in May. The Killer didn’t drop a point in the 2020 Mosconi Cup during doubles or singles action as Europe romped to a 11-3 win over the USA.
He became the youngest ever MVP back in 2017 at the age of 19 and has gone on to claim some of the biggest honours in the game including the 2019 US Open Pool Championship and 2018 World Pool Championship.
Lely: “Away from the table he brings intensity and power. In the hours building up to right before you play, he is the one who will not go into his shell. He doesn’t shy away from the intensity at all, it brings out the best in him. It’s a great attribute to him and the team it helps other players to follow in his footsteps to be assertive and extroverted to allow the intensity to flow.”
“Over the last year he has won the World Cup of Pool and in the US Open Pool Championship and World Pool Championship he hasn’t gone deep, but we haven’t seen the real professional we have seen, I think what I have seen over the last year and a half, he is coming into his own. He is becoming a little calmer and adding an extra layer to his game.”
“I hope to see his A game where he doesn’t put a foot wrong. I expect his B and C game to be a one-level up from where that has been in the past. He will be more difficult to play. Not one USA player will be happy to see him in the side.”
Lely believes that Filler thrives in the Alexandra Palace environment: “The more you push him, the harder he pushes back. The more stimulus and impulse from the outside, the more you will see on the inside. The Mosconi Cup with the fans out there, in a super intense Matchroom arena, that is his home.”

MVP JAYSON SHAW RETURNS FOR TEAM EUROPE
2020 MVP Jayson Shaw will return to Team Europe for the 2021 Mosconi Cup at Alexandra Palace, London, December 7-10 becoming captain Alex Lely's first wild card pick joining Albin Ouschan and David Alcaide.
BUY YOUR TICKETS HERE
Shaw will compete in his sixth consecutive Mosconi Cup on the back of claiming two singles wins and two doubles wins in 2020 on the way to Europe's 11-3 rout of the USA.
The Eagle Eye joins World Champion and Matchroom World No.1 Ouschan and 2019 World Pool Masters champion Alcaide on Lely’s side so far.
Lely believes Shaw brings the full package: "Jayson brings experience to the team. In the beginning, he was the younger one on the team and he won. He was on board when Europe lost in 2018 and 19. Through the years he has gained experience as he proved last year. When he won on the Euro Tour, he has since taken his game to the next level. We've not heard a lot from him this year, but I've watched him closely this year and he hasn't lost that demeanour."
"In previous years, he was very much a loose cannon but now he is able to balance that out with the proper balance and mindset needed for a Mosconi Cup. Last year he led by example on the table. He was the backbone not only at the table but behind closed doors on a social level. He is a driving force and engine."
"Some naive people could think he isn't going to be ready for this year's Mosconi Cup and surely some people on social media will write such. But the Mosconi Cup is special, and it brings out something special from the players especially from the special players. He will be ready if people do not know, he will need little time to prove them wrong. It's all about intensity and preparation and he's been working hard for months now on his game, his fitness, and mental game. They should fear him."
The Scotsman has been working hard behind the scenes and Lely knows how much of a difference it can make: "His passion. Fire and heart. He wears his heart on his sleeve. He is outspoken, funny, and intense. That's his strength. In the past, it may have been his weakness but with eh years on him, he is finding the perfect balance between knowing when to bring intensity and when to lay down a little bit.""

THE 2021 INTERNATIONAL OPEN IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
The INTERNATIONAL is BACK with NINE days of pure pool from October 22-30, 2021. With two successful years under its belt, the INTL, as it is recognized, has quickly become one of the top tournaments in the world. Previous to last year’s pandemic cancellations, the INTL brought over 200 players from over 23 countries together to play under one roof. The players will be playing on the “triple gold standard” of professional pool: Diamond tables, Simonis cloth, and Aramith balls, and they will be playing in the same Sheraton Waterside Hotel ballroom as in the past, as well as its predecessor, the U.S. Open. To say the least, familiarity will be their only solace, for the competition will be fierce. As the 1st tournament of the Mosconi Points 2022 Calendar, the 2021 INTL places itself in a unique position in the professional players mind – get ahead early in the points! The winner of the 2021 INTL leads the Mosconi Point standings right away! Also, being sanctioned by the WPA, the INTL is one of the last stops on the WPA 2021 tour and the last chance at the coveted points is sure to make for some heated play! With past winners such as 2018’s Chang Jung-Lin and 2019’s Jayson Shaw, the players will definitely be charging out of the gate!
Needless to say, with successful freshman and sophomore events, Pat Fleming, the producer of the 2021 INTL, is not content with sitting on his laurels. This year, Pat has made some significant improvements to his third International 9-Ball Open. So, you ask, what has changed? With $50,000 added, the INTL now has an expanded field AND lower entry fee – 160 player field and $500 entry fee – and first place is still $30,000! This year, the INTL joins all other International Pro events by shifting to single elimination for the final 32 players. This is going to ratchet up the competition immensely! But that’s only the start.
For 2021, while 9-ball is the centerpiece, Pat is grooming the INTL into something more than “just a 9-ball tournament”. In addition to the 160 player 9-Ball Open, the International will be showcasing the inaugural 32-player 2021 INTERNATIONAL ONE-POCKET OPEN. The One-Pocket Open takes place the first Friday and Saturday of the 2021 INTL, prior to the start of the 9-Ball Open, extending the INTL two extra days. With $5000 added, an entry fee of $300, and a $4500 first prize, this is going to be filled fast – and fast paced - with the world’s best one pocket players! It is double elimination until the final 8 players. Then watch the sparks fly! It is sure to be the start of yet another great yearly INTL event.
Not content with two pro tournaments going on at one event, Pat Fleming, in partnership with Ra Hanna of On the Wire, is bringing back the junior’s event. Better than ever, the 2021 Junior Invitational Championship will have both a Junior Men’s AND a Junior Women’s division. On October 28-30, sixteen Junior Men and eight Junior Women will compete in their divisions to be the 2021 Junior Championship Men's and Women's 9-Ball Champions! We are very proud to support the next generation of professional players and very happy to give them the opportunity to play at the 2021 International.

He Golden in Capturing FargoRate Ohio Open
Reporter: Keith Paradise - CSI Staff Writer
Photography: Matt Porinsky
As crazy as it might sound, Mario He wasn’t exactly overflowing with confidence when he reached the final stages of this weekend’s FargoRate Ohio Open.
The semifinal and finals matches would be played on the event’s main table which is specially lit for televised broadcasts. The more intense wattage gives the equipment’s cloth a more slippery slide and the rails a little different bounce, factors that the Austrian struggled with early on. As a result, He want into the last day of competition with one idea in mind: win both sets to avoid the extra-frame shoot out.
He would ultimately go a step further: avoiding playing an entire rack altogether, as He benefitted from back-to-back pocketed 10 balls on the break to jump out to an early lead and defeat Roberto Gomez in straight sets, 4-4, 4-0, Saturday evening at Roberts Centre in Wilmington. The Austrian, who posted his first tournament victory since the 2019 Veldhoven Open, earned his first win on United States soil by surging ahead when opportunities were presented while also benefitting from mistakes from his opponents.
“Everything went well but it was not my best game,” said He, conceding that his stellar play was met with the occasional fortunate break during the four-day event. “You need some combination of all to win a tournament because there are so many good players.”
Throughout his day of play on the table, He noticed that his break shot was causing a ball from the last row to kick the 10 ball towards the rail. The Austrian decided on hitting the cue ball at slightly less than full power to try and unleash solid contact. What he ultimately unleashed was not one, but two, “golden breaks,” with the 10 ball kicking into the far corner pocket for one win and trickling into the side pocket for another. He broke a third time and watched as the 2 and 10 balls lined up for a combination shot near the side pocket, which he cleanly pocketed.
After taking four shots, He had a 3-0 lead.
“I was feeling pretty bad for my opponent, honestly,” said He.
The sympathy was more-than-likely short-lived, as He failed to pocket a ball on the break in the fourth rack then missed a kick attempt on the 2 ball after a Gomez safety. The Filipino cleared the table, used a break-and-run to pull within a game and won a safety exchange on the 3 ball to tie the set. After his break in the set-deciding rack, Gomez was faced with a tied up 3 and 4 ball, which he attempted a combination shot on but missed.
“I didn’t see a safety available so I went for the shot,” Gomez said after the match.
He cleared the table to snag the set, then took advantage of Gomez misplaying a safety on the 1 ball in the opening rack of the second set and broke and ran to build an early 2-0 advantage. The Austrian tacked on another game after Gomez overcut the 1 ball in the third game and closed out the match when Gomez missed the 3 ball in the fourth game.

The Road to Glory
Reporter: Angela Galane | Events & Sponsorships Coordinator - Predator Group
Three World titles were to be won on this final day of the 2021 Predator World Junior 9-Ball Championships in Kalgenfurt, Austria. In the morning, the faces of the youngsters warming up for their D-day showed the enormity of what could be achieved. To have their name added to the WPA Hall of Fame and to have their name cemented in 9-ball history.
Austria, being the organizing country fared well in the girls' division. One Austrian semi-final guaranteed one in the final. Kapeller, already having survived a hill-hill decider in the quarterfinal, had yet another one in the semi-final against her compatriot Lena Primus. This time she found herself on the receiving end though, falling victim to Primus' fighting spirit. The other semi-final was contested between Polish Pawelczyk and Korean Kim. This turned out to be a much more one-sided affair. Kim barraged through to the final with a 9-4 victory.
The final was what one can expect, filled with great shots, unforced errors and drama. Of the two, Primus was the one keeping her composure best in the first half of the match. What impressed in the second half was firstly the ferocious fightback by Kim, refusing to roll over. Then, when Kim was breathing down Primus' neck, the question was whether the Austrian would be able to withstand the pressure. She did just that and more. It unleashed her true potential and she powered on to victory. 9-7 the victory, a spot in the World 10-ball Championship for women in September here in Klagenfurt, Austria, but most importantly....the title for life, the World Champion 2021.

PRO9 has established an outstanding reputation as Europes No.1 source for information on American Pool in the UK and Europe.
Upcoming tournament details, prompt match reporting, exclusive images by talented photographers, superb articles by expert pundits, active pool related forums, player profiles and a very sophisticated membership - basically, an incredible information resource for the American style game in Europe.
Since it launched, PRO9 has become compulsory reading, not just for the UKs pool players, but to hundreds and thousands of pool obsessives from around the world every single day.
PRO9s members range from professional pool players, cue-sports enthusiasts, club managers, tournament organisers, pool fans and aficionados, as well as various "movers and shakers" in the cue-sports field, including entrepreneurs in the wholesale and retail sector, as well as magazine editors and television sports promoters.
Growing more and more popular every single year, PRO9 is the best placed vehicle for the promotion of your pool club, billiards brand, associated products, services and opportunities in the truly massive pan-European billiard market.
