| The Best 5 Pool Players |
The Best 5 Pool Players
Pool is a classification of cue sports with six pockets, into which balls are deposited. There are a few different pool game types: obstacle games, racked games, one-pocket, rotation games, straight pool, 8-ball, bank pool, and artistic pool. As an international sport, pool is regulated by the World Pool-Billiard Association, or WPA.
World Pool Masters Winner
Since the 2019 Predator World 10-ball Championship finished, we can only guess who is going to be the winner of the World Pool Masters. There are some individuals with excellent odds of winning. Shane Van Boeing for example has excellent odds 5/1. Right behind him, Joshua Filler is second on the list, with 7/1. Jayson Shaw grabs the 3rd spot with 15/2.
Skyler Woodward and Eklent Kaci are closing the top 5 list, with Skyler having greater odds, 9/1, and Eklent having 10/1. Niels Feijen also has fair odds of winning. Betting sites have given him 10/1 chance of winning the World Pool Masters. Alex Kazakis comes in with the same odds, 10/1.
You can bet on your favourite player, or you can just bet on the person you think has the best chances of winning at freebets.co.uk, where you can find all the best UK online betting sites.
Efren Reyes
Efren Reyes is a Filipino professional pool player. Nicknamed The Magician, Reyes has won over 70 international titles, and he was the first player to win world championships in two different disciplines of pool. Many analysts and fans consider Efren to be the greatest pool player of all time. His fame began when he beat Nick Varner in the US Open Nine Ball Championship in 1994. He was the first non-American player to win the event.
Ralph Greenleaf
Ralph Greenleaf was an American professional pool player. During his era, the championships mostly consisted in games of straight pool, but varied in format from tournament to tournament. He was one of the first three members included in the Billiard Hall of Fame in 1966. He was also ranked 3rd on the Billiards Digest 50 Greatest Players of the Century. Sadly, he died of suddenly at the age of 50 in Philadelphia. His death came just days before a scheduled match in New York.

Eberle In Team USA Contention For partypoker Mosconi Cup
Report by Nick Teale - Head of Media & Marketing, Matchroom Multisport.
Photography courtesy of ©Vincent Rochefort/Matchroom Sport - used with permission.
Max Eberle will join Corey Deuel, Billy Thorpe and Tyler Styer as the four ‘Contenders’ for the final three places on Team USA for the 2019 partypoker Mosconi Cup, which will take place at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas this November 25-28, live on Sky Sports and DAZN.
Eberle had been working with Team USA Vice-Coach Jeremy Jones ahead of Sunday’s challenge matches at Griffs, Las Vegas where he saw off competition from Justin Bergman, Chris Robinson and Mahkeal Parris to earn a shot at making the American team when they attempt to defend their partypoker Mosconi Cup title later this year.
He’ll now link up with last year’s winning American team. Shane van Boening and Skyler Woodward have already been selected to be part of the title defence this November. Two more players from the remaining four will be selected after September’s Kremlin Cup and Dream Challenge before the final place is awarded in early November.
Team USA Coach Johan Ruijsink said of Eberle: “He works hard at the table and has improved a lot during our boot camps. He is a player our Vice-Coach Jeremy Jones knows very well.”
Jones himself recently explained this year’s selection process, saying: “It will be a little bit different this year. Shane and Sky have already been selected for the team. I have been training four players; Max Eberle, Justin Bergman, Chris Robinson and the WPA Under-17 World Champion Mahkeal Parris from the US Virgin Islands. Max has now emerged from that group to contend with Corey Deuel, Billy Thorpe and Tyler Styer for those remaining three spots on the team.

Ko Wins Thriller Over Filler, Crowned Predator World 10-Ball Champion
Report by Keith Paradise - CSI Media Staff Writer
Predator World 10-Ball Championship
All photography courtesy of ©JP Parmentier - used with express permission.
Four years ago, a 19-year-old Ping-Chung Ko was eliminated in the semifinals of the World Pool and Billiards Association’s World 10-Ball Championship and watched from stands as his older brother, Pin-Yi Ko, claimed the tile over Carlo Biado.
“I was happy for my brother, but I think if I would have been the winner that may have been better,” the younger Ko said with a laugh through a translator.
The roles were reversed Friday night, as the younger Ko used a combination of brilliant shot-making and some late match mistakes by opponent Joshua Filler to claim the Predator World 10-ball Championship at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino. The win is the first major victory for Ko, who has come close in big events in recent years but hasn’t been able to close out until this week in Las Vegas. Last year, Ko finished second at the International 9-Ball Open and had top-10 finishes at the China Open and World 9-Ball Championship.
“The last couple of years, Joshua has played really well and I just wanted to challenge him,” Ko said. “I didn’t know if I could beat him but I just wanted to try my best.”
Filler jumped out to an early 3-1 advantage in the finals, using two breaks and runs and a dry break from Ko. After the two players traded breaks and runs in the next two games, and Ko took a restroom break immediately following Filler’s pocketing of the 10-ball. The elder Ko followed along with his little brother, more to be there as a security blanket than to coach or offer advice.
“He didn’t really say anything to me,’ said Ping-Chung Ko. “Just having him walk with me relaxed me.”
The timeout paid dividends for Ko, who used missed shots by his opponent in the seventh and ninth racks to pull to within 5-4. Momentum really shifted in Ko’s favor in the crucial 10th game. Without a clear shot on the 1-ball, the German attempted a safety and left a long open shot instead. Ko pocketed the ball and ran out the rack to tie the score, then mixed in a break-and-run to take the lead. Filler tied the score at six each and had an opportunity to regain the lead in the 11th game when Ko misplayed a safety on the 5-ball, but couldn’t capitalize – missing a somewhat routine combination shot on the 9 and 10 balls.
“Both matches today, I played pretty solid at the start of the match but I couldn’t get a good lead,” Filler said. “I didn’t have a chance to get three games ahead. Then I missed some balls.”
Ko was clutch in the closing stages, executing a sharp cut on the 3-ball and bank on the 4-ball to run out the 15th game and regain the lead, 8-7. When Filler broke dry in the next game, Ko used a challenging one-rail kick shot to pocket the 3-ball and run out the rack and climb onto the hill, 9-7.
Needing one more win for the championship, Ko broke in the 18th game and authoritatively banked the 1-ball into the side pocket – as Filler sat in his chair simply nodding in appreciation.
“That’s really when I felt like I could win this,” he said.
As he stroked his way through the final balls, a packed crowd sensed the victory – including a dozen family and fans who had traveled from Chinese Taipei. After landing the 5-ball and sending the cue ball two rails down table for the game winning 9 and 10 balls, the elder Ko let out a sigh of relief.
“I was nervous until he made the last two balls,” he said.

Filler Is First European Qualifier For 2019 partypoker Mosconi Cup
Joshua Filler has qualified to represent Team Europe at the 2019 partypoker Mosconi Cup, to be played at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas from November 25-28, live on Sky Sports and DAZN.
The 21-year-old entered the Guinness Book of Records when he became the youngest ever partypoker Mosconi Cup winner two years ago and rose to the occasion with an MVP performance as Europe lifted the famous trophy. He missed out on last year’s event but has bounced back strongly, winning the World 9-Ball Championship and US Open since.
This week he confirmed his spot on the 2019 European team with progression to the last four of the Predator World 10-Ball Championship, where he will meet Ko Pin-Yi in the semi-finals on Friday.
“I’m super exited that Joshua Filler is on our team this year,” said European captain Marcus Chamat. “He’s such an asset to our team in many ways.
“He plays amazing and has a young gun’s mentality, which raises the level of the whole team. He is happy and funny and has a ton of charisma!
“The 2017 partypoker Mosconi Cup was first time I really had a chance to team up and get to know him, and it was like love at first sight. His personality is so different to a lot of Europeans and it is great for any team to have a good mix.
“He played amazing that year in Vegas and was living his dream. I kept coaching and pushing him as a captain and he was flawless on table and in the team. We won, he was the MVP and he’s back now.

Team USA Selection Process Outlined For 2019 partypoker Mosconi Cup
Three more players will join Van Boening and Woodward at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino this November
The Team USA selection process for the 2019 partypoker Mosconi Cup has been set out by coach Johan Ruijsink ahead of America’s defence of the Cup at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas this November 25-28, live on Sky Sports and DAZN.
Team USA won a dramatic partypoker Mosconi Cup in London last year, fighting against the odds to win the trophy 11-9 in one of the most memorable Cups ever played. Shane van Boening and 2018 MVP Skyler Woodward have already been selected by Coach Ruijsink and Vice-Coach Jeremy Jones to be part of the team which attempts to defend the title against Europe in November.
They will be joined by three more players selected from a group who will be working with Ruijsink and Jones; Corey Deuel, Billy Thorpe and Tyler Styer were all part of the successful 2018 team and will battle alongside one additional player for their spot on this year’s roster.
The additional player will be one of a group of four who have been training with Jones. That group is comprises of Max Eberle, Justin Bergman, Chris Robinson and Mahkeal Parris. Those four players will train together with Ruijsink and Jones in Las Vegas this weekend, after which one player will officially join Deuel, Thorpe and Styer as ‘The Contenders’.
“It will be a little bit different this year,” explained Vice-Coach Jones. “Shane and Sky have already been selected for the team. I have been training four players; Max Eberle, Justin Bergman, Chris Robinson and the WPA Under-17 World Champion Mahkeal Parris from the US Virgin Islands. One of those guys will emerge from that group to contend with Corey, Billy and Tyler for those remaining three spots on the team.
“We will then take six players – Shane, Skyler plus the four Contenders – to the Kremlin Cup and the Dream Challenge in Russia in September. After those events we will confirm two players for the team. The final player to make the team will be chosen at the start of November.”

US Open 9-Ball Championship Prize Fund Increases To $375,000
Winner to take home $60,000 when tournament returns to Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas
The 2020 US Open 9-Ball Championship will have an increased prize fund of $375,000 with the winner set to pocket $60,000, Matchroom Multi Sport is pleased to announce.
The 44th staging of the historic billiards major will take place at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Convention Center, Las Vegas from April 13 until April 18. Joshua Filler will return as defending champion, with player entries set to open on Tuesday, August 13 – exactly eight months before the Championship begins.
After sold-out crowds, record TV ratings and a full field of 256 players for the 2019 US Open 9-Ball Championship, players are encouraged to enter the 2020 Championship early to avoid disappointment.
Prize money payouts will start from 97th place, with players reaching this stage receiving $1,000. Those who successfully progress from the double elimination stage will earn at least $5,000 with quarter-finalists taking home $7,750, semi-finalists earning $15,000 and the runner-up to be paid $30,000.
Matchroom Sport Chairman and BCA Hall of Fame promoter Barry Hearn said: “We wanted to reward the players because they have special talent, so we are delighted to be able to increase the prize-fund for the US Open 9-Ball Championship to a record-breaking $375,000.
“The US Open 9-Ball Championship was a phenomenal success in what for us was year one. We had over 100 players on the waiting list for the event, on top of the 256 field we had and we achieved some really impressive viewing figures around the world, so the game is in good health and is going to go from strength to strength and we cannot wait for the 2020 US Open 9-Ball Championship.”

Souquet Survives Strickland and Comebacks Galore at Predator World 10-ball Championship
Report by Keith Paradise - CSI Media Staff Writer
Predator World 10-Ball Championship
All photography courtesy of ©JP Parmentier - used with express permission.
The matchup looked like something right out of 1999, instead of 2019.
Earl Strickland and Ralf Souquet share a lot of common ground. Both have had long, decorated careers in pool that have resulted in multiple world championships as well as induction into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame.
Tuesday afternoon, they shared center stage in the main arena of the Predator World 10-ball Championship in a winner’s side matchup, with Souquet taking advantage of a pair of late Strickland mistakes to wipe out a 6-4 deficit and win, 8-6, at the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Both worked to overcome some rust in the early stages. Strickland built an early 2-0 lead when Souquet failed to pocket a ball on the break in the first game and then missed a 6-ball in the second rack. The German said he felt good after opening warm ups but struggled with coldness in his hands as well as the speed of the cloth when the match began.
“I couldn’t get comfortable with the whole situation,” Souquet said.
Strickland appeared poised to increase his lead in the third game but missed a table-length shot on the 9-ball. The German tied the match in the fourth game and the two competitors split the next four games until Strickland used a break and run and a Souquet scratch on the break to jump out ahead 6-4 in a standing room and very pro-Strickland audience.
Down the stretch, Souquet regained control of the match in the same way that Strickland had obtained it: maximization of opponent mistakes. The German narrowed the deficit to 6-5 when Strickland fouled in the 11th game after attempting a combination shot with the 2-ball and pocketed the wrong ball, then added a break-and-run to tie the score. Souquet took the lead when Strickland deposited the cue ball into the side pocket on the break in the 13th game.
“You have to hope for any chance that he gives you,” said Souquet. “He probably played a little better throughout the whole match. You just have to wait for a mistake. Maybe a scratch on the break or maybe he takes position for granted and you just have to go from there.”

Feijen Comes From Behind to Terminate Fortunski in Diamond Finals

With his steely blue eyes and chiseled face, Niels Feijen long ago earned the nickname “The Terminator.”
This weekend in Las Vegas the moniker may not have been more appropriate as the former World 9-ball champion left 105 professional players in his wake. Feijen saved his most dramatic exhibition for last, clawing back from a 7-5 deficit with two breaks and runs and some stellar safety play to defeat Poland’s Miezsko Fortunski, 9-8, in the championship of the inaugural Diamond Las Vegas Open Saturday night at the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino.
“I made three quality outs to go from down 7-5 to up 8-7,” said Feijen. “Overall, I think I played solid and I exploded at the right moments.”
Playing late into the Nevada night, the two players split the first 10 games as they struggled to find their games in the first half of the match Both players broke dry twice, missed shots twice and Feijen committed an uncharacteristic foul. Fortunski clawed ahead 6-5 after a victorious safety exchange on the 1-ball then appeared on the verge of adding to his lead in the 12th game but misplayed position on the 8-ball, ultimately missing a side pocket bank shot. Moments later, Fortunski was bailed out when Feijen, attempting to pocket the same ball and draw the cue ball the length of the table for position on the 9-ball, scratched.
The Dutchman broke and ran in the 13th game and was able to pull even yet again with Fortunski with victorious safety exchanges on the 1 and 2 balls in the following rack. He took the lead and climbed onto the hill with another slow and methodical break and run in the 15th game.
