Juszczyszyn breaks the Dutch hearts
Poland’s Konrad Juszczyszyn claimed his first ever Eurotour gold and at the same time, broke the Dutch hearts here at the Dynamic Billard Treviso Open in Italy. After a couple of weeks of pool in the European Championships, where the Dutch came up dry with no medals in the men’s events, Ivar Saris had suddenly raised their spirits reaching his first ever final on the European 9-ball tour. The young Dutchman had beaten some great players to get into the final, notably Germany’s Ralf Souquet, the Spaniard David Alcaide and Russia’s Ruslan Chinakhov who have all tasted victory on the tour but Knorad Juszczyszyn had other ideas.
Konrad, making only his second appearance in the finals had played fearlessly throughout the tournament but saved his best to last. He produced some amazing shots which wowed the crowd here in Treviso and with the legendary Mike Massey in the audience, we were all in awe. Massey who is famed for his trick-shots was smiling as jump after jump went in with some precise accuracy to go with it. This proved to be a step to far for Ivar who played his part in a great final but eventually lost the match 6-9 and saw a new champion crowned in Konrad Juszczyszyn.

9-ball titles awarded at the final day of the European Championships
The last day of the Dynamic Billard European Championships 2019 saw the finals in the 9-ball individuals in all four divisions. The titles were grabbed by Fedor Gorst (RUS), Jasmin Ouschan (AUT), Pijus Labutis (LTU) and Jouni Tahti (FIN).
Fedor Gorst had a thriller against Joshua Filler (GER) in the men’s 9-ball division. Both player performed tremendously well throughout the event and deserved their spot in the final match. Gorst was always ahead of Filler whose break let him down big time in the match. But the German struck back whenever he could and kept the match open for a long time. Then Gorst got some momentum and went on the hill, taking a nice 8:4 lead over Filler. But one of „Killer Filler’s“ most important talents is that he keeps his nerves together and plays rock solid even when under fire. Filler took some racks off Gorst since the Russian himself had some problems with his break shot in the latter part of the match. Filler even got to the hill and created an 8:8 situation. The heat was on for both players with Gorst having the break shot. He had 2 balls down and an open layout. From there, Filler never got back to the table and Gorst sneaked past the winning line, taking the match with 9:8 over brave Filler.

8-ball titles awarded at the Dynamic Billard European Championships
The 8-ball competition at this year’s Dynamic Billard European Championships have been decided. The matches in the different divisions contained everything from expectations to drama and highly thrilling matches.
The final match in the men’s division was played between Eklent Kaci (ALB) and Ralf Souquet (GER). This match was not only the encounter of two high profile athletes but also a clash of two generations. While „The Kaiser“ Ralf Souquet has already won an unbelievable number of 22 Gold Medals at European Championships, Kaci was still waiting on his first one. Souquet has achieved almost everything that a pool billiard player can achieve while Kaci is still on the start of his career. On the other hand, Kaci has won some prestigious events throughout last year and can considered to be „on fire“ currently while Souquet is on his regular level. This constellation was the interesting starting position of the match. Tonight, Kaci had the better day and after seven racks, he was already leading 6:1 over Souquet. Needing only two more points, it would be hard for just anyone to stop Kaci. But Souquet still tried and managed to get some excitement back into a match which seemed to be long time decided. He fought back and pulled some racks back from Kaci to get to 4:6 and 6:7. When Kaci was on the hill at 7:6, he made no more mistakes and pocketed the final 8-ball which made him a European 8-Ball Champion for the first time in his life.

Fortunski, Feldmann and Larsson win Gold in 10-Ball
The 10-ball discipline at the Dynamic Billard European Championships 2019 is over and the medals have been awarded.
In the men’s division, Mieszko Fortunski (POL) won the title after a fierce fight with Casper Matikainen (FIN) in the final match. Matikainen had the better start and stormed off with a 3:0 lead over Fortunski. The Finish played pretty confident and displayed no weakness until that stage in the match. Then suddenly he started committing mistakes. Fortunski capitalized from them and gained strength from his opponent’s errors. Then, Matikainen was also very unlucky with his break. While it worked pretty well in the beginning, it did let him down during the match. He scratched three times in a row on his own break shot and it could be witnessed how his confidence left him and he had no trust in himself anymore. Fortunski got stronger and stronger and in the end succeeded in sealing the deal with a comfortable 8:4 victory over Matikainen.

Filler Is Partypoker US Open 9-Ball Champion
Report by Nick Teale
Media Director - Matchroom Sport
All photography courtesy of ©JP Parmentier/Vincent Rochefort
Joshua Filler is the new partypoker US Open 9-Ball Champion after beating Wu Jiaqing 13-10 in the final at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Convention Center in Las Vegas.
His performances throughout the tournament were worthy of one of billiard’s oldest and most prestigious titles, as the German knocked out defending champion Jayson Shaw as well as world-class players including Alex Kazakis, Albin Ouschan and finally Wu, whose foul in what became the final rack was his last action of a breath-taking tournament.
Over three days the 256-player field became 16 before the tournament transferred to the Diamond Arena and single elimination action. This was the first time the event had been promoted by Matchroom Multi Sport, and any pre-tournament doubts were dispelled by a week that had it all.
In front of a sold-out crowd of 700 pool fans, and many more watching live on TV in over 100 countries around the world, Filler displayed some of his very best offensive pool, the sort of play which saw him become the youngest ever Mosconi Cup player, winner, and MVP, a World Champion and World No.1 at 21, and now US Open Champion.
In the final, Wu won the lag and drew first blood before he ran the next two for a 3-0 lead. Filler then put a five-pack together but scratched in rack nine. Wu pulled one back however, a dry break saw the World No.1 return to the table to make it 6-4.
The next two racks were shared before Filler opened up a three-point lead which soon became five. A poor safety at 10-5 enabled Wu to narrow the deficit to four and eventually two, but at 10-8 Filler benefitted from an incredible fluke, crashing the 2 into the top corner pocket off the cue ball. He ran the rest of the rack and the following to reach the hill at 12-8.
Breaking for the match, Filler was dry and Wu had a roadmap back. He drove it and then made a 3/9 in the 22nd game, but at 12-10 committed a touch foul bridging over the 4 to the 1, giving ball in hand to Filler.
The German made no such mistakes and cleared for the title, $50,000, the Barry Behrman Trophy and his first green US Open winner’s jacket.
“It feels amazing,” said Filler. “I am overwhelmed with the situation right now. It is unbelievable for me, of course. There is only one reason why I am here now and so successful – it is my wife, and I love her so much.

SVB Crashes Out To Wu At Partypoker US Open 9-ball Championship
Report by Nick Teale
Media Director - Matchroom Sport
All photography courtesy of ©JP Parmentier/Vincent Rochefort
Wu Jiaqing will face Wang Can in the quarter-finals of the partypoker US Open 9-Ball Championship after dumping American No.1 Shane van Boening out of the tournament at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Convention Center, Las Vegas, live on Sky Sports and DAZN.
Van Boening ran the first two racks of the match and lead for most of the match, but at 7-4 down Wu fought back with four consecutive racks to lead for the first time. Two more games went in Wu’s favour to take the World Cup of Pool winner to the hill, but the former World Champion wasn’t left with a shot on the 1 after breaking for the match.
That allowed Van Boening a route back into the match and the South Dakota Kid looked to be taking it but missed the 9, provoking gasps from the 600-strong crowd. Wu was left a long cut on the 1 ball to the bottom left pocket. He called for his shot-clock extension, took his time and rolled the winning ball home.
Earlier, Wang had defeated Ryan Hsu for his place in the quarter-finals. Hsu had taken a 2-0 lead but Wang took five straight racks to gain the upper hand in the match. The Chinese went in off during the 10th rack to offer Hsu a lifeline, but Wang was soon back at the table and won five racks without reply to seal the victory.

Only 16 Left Standing As Partypoker US Open 9-ball Championship Heads To Single Elimination
Report by Nick Teale
Media Director - Matchroom Sport
All photography courtesy of ©JP Parmentier/Vincent Rochefort
After 488 matches of double elimination pool the partypoker US Open 9-Ball Championship is down to the last 16 as play moves into the Diamond Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Convention Center, Las Vegas on Wednesday.
The tournament now switches to single elimination, with global television coverage including Sky Sports and DAZN. The top two seeded players – defending champion Jayson Shaw and US No.1 Shane van Boening – both came through the double elimination stage unscathed and will now face Joshua Filler and Wu Jiaqing respectively in two of the standout matches from the last 16.
Tuesday’s action ended with the final eight matches on the losers’ side of the double elimination brackets. Filler beat Petri Makkonen 11-6 to progress, while Wu booked his match with Van Boening by defeating Mieszko Fortunski in the 21st and final rack of their match.
Elsewhere there was success for Aloysuis Yapp over Ko Pin-Yi, whose brother Ko Ping-Chung beat Tyler Styer 11-7. There were wins too for Lui Haitao and Wang Can of China, while Jeffrey Ignacio’s victory over Dennis Hatch means Van Boening is the only play from outside of Asia in the bottom half of the draw. England’s Imran Majid defeated Cheng-Chieh Liu of Taiwan and will now face Jeff De Luna.

Benji does the double at Event 3
Report by: Matt Hawthorn
Second City 9 Ball
Solihull 9 Ball Series Event 3 is in the books. On Saturday 20th April 2019, 41 registered players made the journey to Rileys Sports Bar, Solihull, all with the intention of claiming the Event 3 title, or at least a share of the £1100 prize fund.
With the Grand Final only 9 weeks away players were required to have played a minimum of 3 events to meet qualification criteria. All knew that a good run in the tournament could well leave them in pole position for one of the sixteen sought after spots.
Solihull 9 Ball is always happy to welcome newcomers to our tournaments and several impressed during their series debuts. Three wins saw Chris Parker safely through to the last sixteen while Danny Orme also battled his way to the single elimination stage undefeated. Terry Davies was downed 7-3 by Kev Simpson but still managed to make the last 16 thanks to a victory over Ryan Coton. Jimmy Mole has always supported 9 Ball events at this venue so it was good to see him in good form early on with wins over Karl Hooley and Solihull 9 Ball’s own Daryl Garland. Unfortunately for Jimmy he was sent to the loser’s side by Benji Buckley before his involvement was ended completely by another debutant, local 8 baller Nick Birch. Jan Ibrahim also impressed on his way to the single elimination phase.

Kevin Cheng Captures The WPA Players Championship In A Sudden Death Thriller Over Carlo Biado
By Ted Lerner
WPA Media Officer
All photography courtesy of ©JP Parmentier
Taiwan’s Kevin Cheng captured the inaugural WPA Players Championship on Friday, storming back from the near dead to defeat the Philippines Carlo Biado, 12-11, in a thrilling final at Griffs Billiards in Las Vegas.
The victory capped a terrific week for the Taiwanese sharpshooter, who showed that not only is he one of pool’s hottest sharp shooters, but also that he is a resilient, never-say-die fighter that can grind it out with the best of them.
It was that trench warfare mentality that helped bring Cheng back from the dead, as he was down 8-5 in the race to 9 final and was sitting in his chair watching Biado clear for the title. It was only when the Filipino unexpectedly missed a 4-ball that Cheng felt a slight heartbeat. He proceeded to win the next four racks, and then slugged it out in a nervy 45 minute stretch with Biado in the win-by-two format, until the pair reached the limit of 11-11 all and played one rack for the title, which Cheng won.
The Taiwan-Philippines final seemed only fitting as the day began with two Taiwan-Philippine semi-finals. In the first semi, Cheng squared off with Johann Chua and quickly got out to a 4-1. But as he had done all week, Chua stormed back to tie the match at 4-4. The pair stayed even for the next few racks, until the Filipino made several mistakes that opened the door for Cheng. The Taiwanese then zeroed in on the finish line and won 9-6.

Draw Made for US Open 9-Ball Championship
The draw for the 43rd US Open 9-Ball Championship has been made, with Jayson Shaw to begin his defense against Marcus Weston at Mandalay Bay Resort, Las Vegas on Sunday, April 21.
