Jonas Souto and Aloysius Yapp are set to clash in the final of the 2025 UK Open Pool Championship, with both players chasing their maiden Matchroom Major title in Telford.
Now in its fourth edition, the UK Open runs from May 6–11 with the first four days streamed live on WNT TV, before the final stages are broadcast on Sky Sports across the UK & Ireland.
In the semi-finals, Jonas Souto impressed with a composed and confident performance against the former European Open champion Mickey Krause. The Spaniard took an early lead after escaping a tight safety on the 7-ball in the opening rack and never looked back. Krause struggled to settle, and a failed 6-ball in the fourth handed Souto a 4-0 cushion. Krause finally found a lifeline in the fifth after Souto parked the 4-ball, sparking a short-lived comeback.
Despite Krause narrowing the gap to 7-4 after a series of tactical exchanges, Souto held his nerve. A dry break from Krause in the fourteenth allowed Souto to regain momentum, running the rack to reach the hill. Krause's final chance slipped away with a scratch off the 1-ball, giving Souto the opportunity to clear and seal his place in a Matchroom Major final for the very first time.
In the second semi-final, Singapore’s Aloysius Yapp and America’s Tyler Styer went rack-for-rack in a thrilling back-and-forth encounter. Yapp jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but a missed 2-ball gave Styer the opening to claw his way back. Both players exchanged leads in a tight middle section filled with tactical battles and unforced errors.
Styer surged ahead 7-5 after back-to-back strong clearances, but Yapp dug deep, levelling at 7-7 before edging back in front. A missed 7-ball from Yapp nearly cost him, but he recovered with a fluked 2-ball in the sixteenth to tie things up once again. That stroke of fortune ignited the final push he needed. Yapp reached the hill in the eighteenth and closed out the decider with a smart safety that forced Styer to foul—clearing the path to his second Matchroom Major final appearance.
Jonas Souto and Aloysius Yapp will now battle for their first Matchroom Major title in a final race-to-13, today at 18:30 pm BST. The match will be broadcasted live on Sky Sports in the UK & Ireland, with fans in USA, Vietnam, and other international territories can catch the action on WNT TV.
